DPA Microphones 4017B Shotgun Microphone

This is a great sounding mic and a fine offering from DPA but it is by no means immune to RFI. I was just on a show where the camera ops were using older type video transmitters that spewed all kinds of RF junk around. The 4017B got slammed constantly. I checked to see if maybe the capsules were loose-they were not. The mic was literally rendered useless until the video units were off. I was also using the new Rycote super softie that for some reason seemed to amplify the problem. Removing it decreased the interference but it was still bad. I had to switch to my Sennheiser MKH60. Once I did that, the problem was gone. Perhaps DPA should do a little more testing before claiming the mic is immune to RFI ... More
