I purchased this microphone because I am a host of a weekly podcast, Trekosophy, and I was tired of my voice sounding like it was recorded from a telephone when I used my gaming headset mic. I had heard some good things about Blue Microphones, so I decided to try one of their more popular products as a replacement for that mic.The other hosts and myself all agree that my voice sounds quite a bit richer than it ever did, but even I can tell that it could be better. Perhaps I am just not enjoying the sound of my own voice, but it feels like this micwhile many orders of magnitude better than the poor headset mic I was usingstill could be better. Nevertheless, I understand that I paid less than US$100 for this mic, so I mustn't expect miracles. Perhaps later on down the road, when our podcast has gained a larger audience and we can begin asking for donations, then we can start to look at better equipment for all of the hosts. ... More

I needed a microphone to enable me to record real-time narration while running a screen capturing program which I then provide as a tutorial video for students enrolled in an online class I instruct. I am primarily a Mac user, however, I use a PC because the software application taught in the class is not available on the Mac platform. I was quite pleased and surprised when I plugged the Snowball into my PC USB port, opened the screen capture software, and discovered that the software recognized the presence of the Snowball mic. I selected it as my audio input source and recorded a brief test. The sound it captures was clear, defined, full and far beyond my expectations. This mic is worth every cent (and it's not that expensive) ... More

This usb microphone was purchased specifically for recording jam sessions in the studio. Going directly through the sound board was an option, but we wanted to record exactly what we heard in the room. This mic does exactly that. It picked up everything from the bass' lows to the drum's cymbals. The omni-directional setting (Setting-3) worked flawlessly at picking up the 2-loudspeakers, 1-bass cabinet, and acoustic drums. Vocals came across as clear in the recording as they did live. The cardioid setting (Setting-1) works great at picking up the depth subtleties of voice. While -db setting (Setting-2) was superb at recording only what was coming out of one amp while discarding ambient sound quite well. Set-up was a breeze. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good quality (usb specific) microphone. ... More

Only issue is using it on Windows 10. The input levels aren't high enough and I have to sit quite close. This isn't an issue with the mic. it's a known issue with Windows 10 and USB mics - google it! Tried the suggested solutions for increasing input level but none worked - thanks Microsoft. Fine on Win 7. Get around it by lowering background levels of games etc, before recording. Still not ideal and will invest in a non USB mic. at some stage.

We couldn't be happier with this product! We bought this Snowball mic to use with Skype for group teleconferences. The mic is set to mode 3 and placed on a stool in the middle of a 20'x13' living room with 12 local people seated around the edges of the room. Skype is configured with mic volume at max and auto-gain disabled. Output from the Skype PC is piped through the surround stereo system in the room. Individual remote users use Skype with a headset. Remote users are able to clearly hear every speaker in the room, even when those in the room are speaking quietly! Pros: This is by far the most effective teleconferencing solution we have tried. It beats the pants off of two expensive professional teleconferencing telephones (including a PolyCom). Cons: The only additional thing we could possibly have asked for was a longer USB cable. ... I use this for recording voice over for video and radio. If you are in a noise room it will pick up some of the room noise. A controlled room or one with less noise or normal noise It does a great job. Clearly picks up my voice and on playback it's a very nice sound. size of a softball, and for me to feel comfortable transporting it safely I bought a Pelican 1400 case to hold it in, and it fits nicely inside. The only down grade is if the air vents in your room are noisy or you have external drives running near by you will pick them up on this mic. If you can control that, this is a great USB mic. ... I bought this microphone for my son, who is a hip-hop poet. Before this he was using a Sony dynamic microphone, which he felt was outdated. His recordings were ok with the dynamic microphone, but he wanted better vocal quality. After looking around on the internet, he noticed a lot of people were using a microphone called the Snowball, which wasn't a studio microphone, but the quality of vocal capturing is want caught his attention. He's good at things like that, so he told me he found the Snowball microphone at a great price, and it was all he needed to complete his home studio, so I bought it for him, and the rest is history. His vocal recordings are much more clear, and his voice is equal to the music when mixed. ... More

Tried using standard audio port Mic and also builtin laptop Mic and people had problems hearing me on conference calls through Lync and Skype. Was told that I sounded like I was under water. Then I purchased one of these Snowball Mics and wow what a difference. Unboxed it and plugged it into a USB port and the driver installed with no intervention needed from me. Now everyone claims that they can hear me clearly. And this is with the Mic around 2-3 feet away from my mouth. No need to get right in front of it.If I have one complaint, it is that the packaging is really horrible. It is that plastic packaging that is hard to open and when you cut it the edges are sharp and almost always lead to cuts and scrapes. ... More

I was recommended this mic by colleagues as a decent mic to record voice overs for digital learning elements. Unlike the cheap mic that I was using, plugged directly into a mic socket on my PC, this is plugged in via USB and offers clear, professional quality recordings for narration or podcasts. I do tidy up audio in an audio editing software to get rid of any background noise, but if you have a foam isolation shield around it (which I purchased elsewhere), this increased the quality of recording. It can also be used as a mic for Teams or Zoom, you just have to make sure you select which audio input you would like to use in settings for Teams or Zoom. The only downside is the USB cable which cones with it protrudes significantly from the back of the device. ... More

This is a great mic for its intended use. I do a fair bit of studio recording and so am familiar with some good mics, but I got this mic to use at school for podcasting and sampling and to produce radio spots and commercials. It's grrreat...sturdy, clear, great construction. Bass isn't exactly thumping but that's not what this mic is about. Also, the plug-and-play functionality works great...have tried it with windows, mac, and even linux...sonar producer, garage band, cubase, and audacity. Super easy with all and solid results. I wanted a decent quality, well-built USB mic for simple use, and I'm happy. ... More

This far exceeded my expectations. Truly plug and play. Sound quality is terrific. The other day I had a meeting in a U-Shaped classroom with about 15 people. Brought in one person via videoconference through my laptop. We had the audio out from the laptop connected to the sound system in the room and was solely relying on the Blue Snowball as the mic. Using setting 3, the person videoconferencing in had no problem picking up all the conversation going on in the room. In fact, the next day we had a teleconference using the standard Polycom audioconferencing unit, and the Blue far surpassed that! ... More

The BLUE Snowball is simply amazing. As a video professional, it is an invaluable asset. Not only does the minimal, compact design allow me to bring it virtually anywhere, but the variable settings ensure that I record crystal clear, full-toned sound every time. Not to mention the fact that with it's plug & play software, it can easily move from computer to computer with no problems, recording musical performances to voice-overs with no sweat. And all at a laughably low price that makes it accessible by professionals and consumers alike. The only negative thing about it is the stand, which is a bit flimsy, but due to the Snowball's design, it can be attached to virtually any microphone stand or mount. Simply put, if you value good sound, this is a must. ... More

We needed a mic for podcasting, something that could be portable if needed or packed away if unused, yet retain sound quality on a budget. This iCE unit by Blue was the right choice, and we're entirely happy with the smaller footprint of the unit, as well as the sound quality. Since it's a cardioid-only mic, this was perfect for voice recording. Noise levels are low, and the sensitivity tracks volume quite well, so you don't need to worry about how close or far you are (within reason) and it adjusts quickly. Study construction, solid connections. We wish that Blue shipped these with a more solid desktop tripod, especially when fitting a pop-filter to it, but so far it's holding up well. ... More

Plugged right in, fired right up, and away it goes. Fantastic sound quality for the cost - a great value. Great buy! The 3 modes on the switch in the back can help tune the sound sensitivity to the environment - a nice touch. It's a bit heavy, not that it really matters once you have it in place. I can see it being hard to balance way on the end of a stand. Good news is, that weight is from the cast metal housing, which should make it very durable and last for eternity. It would be nice if the stand went up a little higher so I could peek it over the top of my laptop screen while both were on a tabletop. That said, the mic in directional mode (it has an omni mode) is good enough I can easily set it to the side aimed at my face and it still works well. ... More

Haven't really done much with it, yet. But I did lay down some tracks using Audacity. I am going to really enjoy this mic. Very sensitive. I work up really close as I don't project much. It's just fine with that. Very clean. Surprisingly little spatter. I use a RealTek audio (motherboard) and the mic patched-in automatically. 64-bit Vista is no issue.

Having just bartered away my $ bluenote microphone from 2002 for other services (thinking, when/why would I ever need such an expensive mic?), I realized my videos sounded too amateur and were hurting my chances at more views.I invested a mere $ in snowball, after reading friend's review of it, and I was NOT LET DOWN! The level of voice recording is one of the best in this range of price. The slim pedestal gives the freedom to set the mic wherever there is some flat square inches, while the pro mic needs a bulky and annoying pedestal. I bought two Snowballs to use for live recording of my band on my Macbook Air. The mike sounded real good but when I plugged in the second one it wasn't recognized by my Mac OS. So when I went to create an aggregate it wasn't available to select. It took 7 days of unanswered phone calls and 5 email messages to support before they finally got it and understood the second mike wasn't recognized by the Macbook and had nothing to do with the recording software. When they finally got it they said I would have to send one to them to change the serial number imbedded in the mike software. After over a week of frustration dealing with the lack of support and no one answering their phone nor replying to my messages I sent them back for credit. I will never understand why they make a mike that can't be used in pairs (at least with the mac os). That is the beauty of USB mikes - no interface and they are easy to setup for live recording. I bought a pair of Samson mikes to replace these that worked immediately when I plugged them into my Mac. I like the Blue mikes but their support is non existent or to slow to respond. I would purchase another model like the Yeti if I only needed one because it received great reviews but they have to get their customer support act together ... More
