I have now had this mic for three months, so I feel like I can now fairly review it. I have to admit that at first I was a bit underwhelmed with this mic... it sounded like a slightly better SM58, more rounded, a more centered and obvious bass response, and perhaps a little unexpectedly hyped in the high mids like a condenser, and even a little electronic sounding. I have had both the M88 TG and my old SM58 paired up side by side on adjacent mic stands in my home studio, running both through my mixer, and monitoring with high quality headphones (also beyerdynamic), and I can now conclusively say that beyerdynamic really emphasizes ‘dynamic’ in its products. This mic produces sound more three dimensionally compared to cheaper mics like the SM58, having a deep range of sonic capture. The M88TG does a proper job of living up to its implied uses as a dynamic microphone. I still like my SM58 for certain applications, but I think it would be foolish to ever really solely on that as a live mic ever again. It’s a good “one solid dynamic mic” workhorse choice for any home studio—definitely worth it. It doesn’t look fancy, but easily distinguishes itself from its competitors through its sonics characteristics. ... More

I have has a M88 for years now, I have liked it for it's creamy midrange and dark, but not dull, high end. It has been my go to mic for singers who sing with a lot of ss and ts, as well as a favorite on brass and saxes. I bought it new over 20 years ago, This summer I decided I wanted a second one, and found it on Reverb. It arrived in mint condition, I knew from talking with the seller that he had acquired it used himself, and used it exclusively for vocal recording. Upon inspection of serial numbers. I discovered it was 201 units newer than the one I have had for years. Listening to it, and comparing it with my other one, I heard all the bottom and midrange color I have come to expect from a M88, but was surprised to hear how much more top end it had. The top end is more like a condenser vocal mic. It is always nice to have different sounding mics for different sources, however it is different enough that I wouldn't simply use it in a matched pair situation with my other one. It has a unique combination of open highs (almost as much as my MD431's) with the warm bottom. I have had it on vocals and horns this summer, it performed wonderfully. It is a new and slightly different flavor in my mic kit. ... More

My favorite mic ever for electric guitar cabinets. Also sounds great on toms, snare, bass cabs, and anything where you need deep bass and great presence without harshness or peakiness. Very narrow pattern and incredibly consistent off-axis response, with high sensitivity too. Nearly a perfect microphone.

Bought mine about 1.5 yrs ago, and it's exactly what you'd expect for a solid Beyer mic. Rugged and multipurpose, useful on a whole bunch of sound sources. Purchased it B-Stock and seems perfect.

I put this this little guy in my gig bag and take it to all of my gigs. It has much more clarity than a standard SM57 but it doesn't have that nasty scratchy sound in the higher frequencies.

Absolutely a workhorse. I use these on snare, kick, bass cabs, guitar cabs and even on toms to get really good off axis rejection. Full punchy hi end sounding tracks. I own 4 and would even use 1 or 2 more per session if I had them.

I just got this, so I haven't had a ton of time to play with it, but I'm a jazz guitarist/vocalist it sounds very good on my vocals from the first take, works very well with my great river mic pre and sounds just fantastic on dark clean jazz guitar.... i'm very happy
