I bought this microphone based on the excellent reviews of the Azden SGM-250, which is the same microphone without the XLR pigtail. I have not been disappointed. At only $199 you cannot go wrong with this piece. Sound quality is fantastic, very smooth and natural sounding. The short barrel length does not seem to hinder performance as the microphone seems to have excellent rejection to the sides and rear. Bravo Azden on a job well done.
Works great to for ambient sound along with a Lavalier Mic

I mostly use the Azden SGM-250CX along with a Sennheiser Lavalier wireless microphone to pick up the ambient room sound then reduce the db in that channel in post production so I have some room sound. It's also my backup incase the Lavalier has a problem. I didn't like the size or length of the Sennheiser shotgun mics and the Azden was mentioned in the Q&A and it seemed like a good fit for and on camera mic for my camcorder. Like people say, wish it didn't have a hardwired XLR connection and could run on battery as well as phantom power but the size was right and the reviews were good. As Good As They All Say

I tested this mic with my Panasonic GH5 and sound module and the sound is fantastic. Rich and velvety with great directionality. The mic is so sensitive that it actually picked up the vibrations in my fingers through the camera body during handheld testing so be aware of this when u go handheld.

This mic is of a quality that would be suitable for professional jobs. My only criticism is the hard-wired XLR cable. A cable is not going to outlive a mic, so a trip to the repair shop at some point needs to be accommodated. Also, there may arise a need to connect to a 3.5mm port, which means adding an extension cable - something that defeats the purpose of a small, compact, lightweight, uncluttered rig. If not for the hard-wired cable, I'd rate this mic 5 stars.

I just tested this mic on my Sony Z90 in a stakeout situation on Capitol Hill. I was alone and jumped in one-man-band on some interviews. It captured the audio amazingly well considering I was not always in front of the subject
