This mic is a work horse. Works well on snare guitar carbs and vocals similar to an sm 57. It doesn't have quite the same sound that a 57 does on guitar and snare but it may be a bit sweeter on vocals in a pinch for live sound. Seems a little scooped to my ear but not so much that it doesn't work well with multiple sources. It's a solid contender and a good all arounder for your mic locker or gig box.

Finally a worthy successor to the venerable Shure SM 57 The problem with the SM57 is the high end fizziness that we have all gotten so used to in mixing it out with EQ The i5 has no such problem and it has noticeably more gain--with no ill effects accompanying this I have used SM57's for 40 years I still have one That is how I know that my three i5's are superior in all respects

I record in all kinds of environments. I really love this mic for recording guitar tracks where I find the room quality to be sub par. Compared to the SM57 it’s tad more scooped EQ wise. Nothing drastic. I use it for live gigs also. Loud amps sound amazing regardless clean or high gain. Very solid build quality to boot.

My go-to mic for snare. It actually pairs nicely with a 57 for guitar cabs. Made in America, which is nice. I plan on purchasing other mics (D2, D6) to expand on drum recordings. They're built like a tank, and sound great.

I've heard this mic described by a few folks as "the modern SM57" and while it's totally different from the Shure, I can agree that this mic excels on most anything you'd put a 57 on, but has a slightly "beefy-er" response in relation to a stock 57. Proud owner of two.

If you are looking for a versatile mic for instruments, specially for use in live sound, this is a great product, excellent U.S quality construction and smoother sound than others with the same applications.

I bought this mic for acoustic guitar. I have a live room and I wanted to reduce the room sound and my test recordings sound good, i think it'll work fine. On acoustic this mic doesn't have a lot of output so I'm going to pop for a Cloudlifter Cl-1 Mic Activator to use w/ this mic.

The i5 is great on guitar cab and snare...The SM57 is warmer, but if you need a brighter tone... This is it!

Well built, reliable, and sounds good. Not so much with vocals for me, sibilance. My go-to mic is the beyer m201, I keep the i5 as a backup.

Love Audix. Getting rid of old state of the art microphones for all Audix. Love it for my drums. Great customer service.

I'll take this over a 57 for snare any day. For me, the presence in the middle is more pronounced because of the i5s rolled-off highs, and that harshness of the stick crack has the edge removed.

Basically a Shure SM57 that sounds the way an SM57 SHOULD sound. It’s a lot less harsh-sounding. This is my second one of these, and I’m very happy with my purchase!

My background is as a professional sound engineer. I've been using the i5 in places where I'd like a little more of a hyped sound. Not a 57 replacement but a nice alternative in some situations.

Saw the reviews and tried the Audix i5 on a guitar amp (12 String guitar).. Crystal clear and great presence - my 57 will go back to the drum set!

I have personally used the mic over the guitar amp and also to mic saxophones.

I purchased an I-5 because I was told that it was the same price as the shure 57 but sounds identical if not better. I beg to differ. It is a very good mic, but I own a 57 and I can tell definite difference when recording a snare. The 57 is much punchier in my opinion. Sorry Audix.

A great mic at a great price. Audix's version of the SM57. Perfect for that warm, dynamic sound on all instruments. A must have for any recording engineer.

This is an excellent acoustic guitar mike, overlooked in most of the site reviewing them....also excellent for drums, so it can do double duty in your studio!

We got one of these as a snare mic in a drum mic kit, and bought another for our second snare. Good mic. No complaints. Fair price.

I challenge anyone to test the difference between a Shure 57 and an Audio i5 with in ear monitors. Just sayin'
