I needed a good microphone for my JVC GR-DV500US. After really taking a look at the videos I've shot over the years on it, I came to realize just how awful the on-board mic is on the camcorder. It has a mic input which is a godsend on any camcorder, so I figured I might as well finally put it to good use. The problem was deciding which kind of mic I needed. I decided to go with a stereo mic since I found out shotguns were mono sound. I am by no means a pro, just an enthusiast looking to shoot good video. Price was another problem. I got some serious sticker shock seeing how much camcorder mics go for. After months of research, I finally came across this particular mic. It didn't seem too large, it had a metal body, and the price was more than reasonable. But how was the sound? I wound up finding an electronics test site that had a video review of the mic and I was impressed by the sound quality and the reduction of background noise in the review. I decided to run over to B&H and grab the mic. I also got a Bescor VB-50 bracket so I had setup for the mic and my video light. I shot some footage in midtown Manhattan after Sunday mass on Easter along Park Avenue and in a little park across the street from Macy's. The sound was a major step up to say the least. Depsite the usual hustle and bustle of NYC streets, the sounds were a lot clearer and the annoying background noise was greatly reduced. Overall, this is a very good microphone if you want to improve the sound in your videos. ... More

It does what it says it does and that is to provide a stereo alternative to a camera's built in mic, at a pro level! Whilst the 'Pro level' can be disputable, it remains tied to what you pay for the product. I use this mic on my Nikon D600 because I want stereo reproduction of ambient and close quarter sounds. I also use a Zoom H4n for more serious stereo sound collection. If one complains about the mic still being able to pick up zoom and focus noises, albeit much less so, then it should be remembered that an audio professional wouldn't go that route. He'll use an off camera mic every time! The high level frequency ability of this mic is very good. attested when I recorded several wind chimes ringing. The lower frequencies ability of the mic are less than 'very good' but still quite capable. So when will you record an earthquake? Speech was also very good and I had no issue with quietness. My camera has adjustable manual gain control....just turn it up! I like this mic at what I consider to be a 'silly cheap' price. The (tiny) battery issue is less convenient for some buyers because they are not so readily available but it doesn't worry me as I have plug-in power from the camera at the mini jack input. The mic is also mounted in a soft rubber 'sleeve' to dampen camera handling noises. Whilst the price made me think twice about buying this product, I also have Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones which are astounding! So I went ahead and I was pleasantly surprised. The mic also came with a padded zipable sleeve for storage - Nice. I would recommend it to a friend ... More

I read all about the other camcorder microphones out there but this one suited my needs the best. Most add-on camcorder microphones such as the Videomic are not stereo. The few good-quality mics that are stereo are very expensive and too large. This often over-looked stereo microphone has superb sound, is very small, rugged and also lightweight. I use the Pro-24CM mounted with a cold shoe adapter on my Sony HDR-SR11 and the sound is CD-quality. I shoot promotional videos for musicians and the sound with this mic is superb. For under $100 you cannot find a camcorder microphone with better sound or build quality. Be sure to turn the ALC off and the mic setting to Low level on the Sony SR11/12 series cameras for recording live music with this microphone. ... More

I like this mic a lot. I purchased it after I lost my Rode directional Mic. I needed an replacement mic fast and didn't want to spend the money I did for the Robe. did my research and saw this one. It was stereo and small. Two additional qualities I was looking for that the Robe didn't offer. I got it and I have been using it for over a year now. I use it with my JVC GZ-HD7U - HD camcorder. The mic on it is good, but this gives it a more crisp sound. sometimes when recording it sounds like I ran the sound through the sound board at a live show. Just did an out side festival and the wind was a little high, I thought I was going to get more wind noise, but the sound was good.I still might purchase a more professional mic, when the time is right, but for now this one does, the trick. check out some of my video's posted on you tube recorded with this mic. @ ... Im currently an amateur photographer/filmer but am trying to move up the ranks...this mic is helping me accomplish this feat. I use it to film action sports, concerts, music videos, and commercials. It has everything i need and is really compact and lightweight. The only downside to it is that it runs off of small batteries but i just circumvented this by buying a bulk pack of 50. Definitely invest in this!

This mic is small and fits the 5D Mark II perfectly; but the audio leaves something to be desired. While the stereo sound quality is superior to the built-in mono mic, this mic forces the 5D to record sound at a very high gain level - thus there is a constant 'hiss' in the audio. Without the ability to control levels in the 5D, I'm not sure this is the best choise.

No issues here. The mic works as advertised. Don't let the battery requirement scare you, for nonpowered mic inputs you do need one since it is a condenser mic, but the batteries cost something like two bucks for a pack of 10 and are good for over a hundred hours of recording. Since there is an on switch it is no big deal at all to just replace it every so often so that you never have a shot with missed audio. Sound quality is great though I'm no pro, and on the D7000 it does not pickup the autofocus motor sound so it makes for some great video even when using the full time autofocus. This is also one of the smallest addon shoe mics you can get for a DSLR, so you stand out much less when shooting. ... More

I used this with my Sony A65 so it may or may not act the same with other cameras. Pros: it sounded much better than the on camera mic. Only tested with human speech and not music but the sound is fuller and more natural than the tinny sound from the camera mic. It has a nice rubber isolation mount that seemed to work well. Cons: this may be just the combination with my camera but there was no extra gain compared to the camera mic. Not sure if the camera is limiting the level or not. Also, the camera says the mic port is powered but if I tried to use it without the button cell battery the gain level drops to almost nothing. Really wish it uses like a AAA battery. Would be easier to find if I needed to replace the battery since it can't rely on camera power alone. ... More

I was looking for a quality, affordable, lightweight camcorder stereo mike with an integrated shock mount for my Sony SR-11. The Pro-24CM fits the bill nicely. It's not quite as crisp and punchy as the Sennheiser and the Rode but it's darn close. A great little mike for the price. Bottom line: For the same price you would pay for a junk Sony handycam mike you get a prosumer quality camcorder microphone that will improve your camcorder's audio while minimizing wind and handling noise.

This is a great, small, compact and rugged mic. As usual with AT stuff the mic itself is metal and of very good construction. The shoe mount works well, although I probably wouldn't trust the plastic threads for a tripod mount. Major issue is that the mic needs quite a bit of gain directly on the DSLR. When paired with my Sony MD Recorder it sounds great, especially for life music. When trying to capture ambient sounds and conversations directly on the DSLR (I am using a D7000) there is a very high noise floor. I have been able to compensate for it in post, but that takes time and effort and I am notoriously lazy. ... More

I use this mic with my Panasonic GH1 camera mostly in run and gun situations in daily news gathering environments. Before, i used to attach other brands' mics and/or digital sound recorders for better quality audio on my camera and feel very unbalanced most of time because of the size differences. Now, GH1 really weighs close to nothing, especially when a c mount fixed focal lens attached to it. My new AT mic still keeps me in the light weight category while providing excellent sound for my videos.

I bought this mic to provide decent sound quality at high volume levels and also to eliminate any fan noise on my Panasonic TM700 camcorder. This mic will handle 118db (20db over the comparable Azden SMX-10) and it has pretty good frequency response for such a low price. The fan noise is pretty much inaudible when taping acoustic guitar at low volumes since this mic sets a couple of inches away from the camera.I tape my son's rock band (@) and this mic can take the high sound pressure levels. An added bonus is that it is short enough that it does not appear in the frame when my camcorder is zoomed out to 35mm.All in all, very nice addition! ... I use this mic on a Nikon D300s. I like the hot-shoe mount and short cable. The mic fits my D300S very well. Construction is good. Metal body robust construction. Only downside is a slight hiss when recording with the D300S. From the forums this appears to be a problem of the camera and not the mic. For the price a good external mic.

Used on 7d (doesn't need batteries- so leave it on), and my Canon HF100 HD consumer video camera, (Will need battery- turn it off to save battery power). Seems to cut down the wind noise on my HF100, and very much so on SLRs. 5 reasons to buy this if you shoot video via SLR. 1. Cuts down on zoom noise. 2. Cuts down on IS noise. 3. Cuts down on wind noise. 4. Gives you stereo vs mono 5. Don't look as stupid shooting video with a still camera. lol

I purchased the Pro-24CM for a DSLR video setup. Several users have reported hiss problems with the microphone but I believe this is due to the built-in AGC of the cameras. I've tested the microphone using a Behringer Xenyx 802 mic preamp (using unbalanced conversion to XLR) to boost the analog signal without using the camera AGC and the pickup is quite good. No hiss so far. All in all, this makes an excellent budget stereo microphone. When used with a preamp, portability becomes an issue but it offers good sound nonetheless.

Purchased the microphone for use with my Canon FS-10 camcorder. Seems to work quite well so far. Good sound quality. Included windscreen is a big improvement over the built-it windscreen option on the camcorder's internal microphone. Light-weight, easy to use and pack along. I also use the cold shoe adapter to mount the microphone to the camcorder and then onto my tripod. I've looked far and wide for a resonably priced external, self-powered, stereo microphone to use with my camcorder. This is the only one I've found. Will also up this microphone to record background tracks and other audio recordings directly to my laptop. ... More

For $ I expected quality from my microphone that I would not be able to achieve with a handheld, small plastic microphone I found a few days ago in my basement. The audio quality of the microphone is fairly good with a very slight humming noise. This should not be a problem, but for the fact that the microphone records so quietly that in most programs that display audio, I cannot even see the sound waves when I have all recording volumes turned reasonably up. I bought this MIC to accomplice my Canon Vixia camcorder, but they do not go together. When I mount the MIC on the camcorder it points sideways. I do not know if this is directly the microphone manufacturers fault, but a rotating feature would have been nice. This mic runs off a battery. I have ceased to use it because as previously stated, I found a similar but better source-powered mic in my basement that produces the same amount of background noise but has a longer cord. ... More

It does have a black one as shown in the picture but the grey fuzzy one wasn't included. which in other stores it is.. but oh well. thats not too big of a deal overall it a great product, microphone sounds great, its not expensive at all, and it does exactly what i need it to do. ... Perfect for outdoor music concerts with a solid sound system. Great for picking up natural sounds at close range, (wind in trees and a small stream/waterfall). Does not pick up voices/conversations well when more than 4-5 feet away. My difficulty with this piece of equipment is that you have no idea how long the battery will last, there was no indicator for me whether or not the equipment was working - had to wait to see it in production (why I though unreliable). Also, changing the battery is difficult - I needed pin nose pliers to change the battery.
