This is mounted on my Sony FS5, and I've been pleasantly surprised with the quality audio it delivers. It compares well against my long Sennheiser, which is just a bit too long for the camera. The AT has great clarity and voices sound full and resonant. I really excellent microphone, and for the price, an excellent value.

I am a free-lance voiceover artist. The industry standard is the Sennheiser 416. But, that was a little out of my budget. The AT875R meets my needs perfectly. Sounds great and rejects a lot of background sound. My home studio isn't totally soundproof (few are!), but this mic rejects all but the loudest noises. I'm very glad I bought this mic.

I just bought another after using one for 2 years with good results. They are good on the small video cameras I use for news style reports and features. (Canon XA-10 and Sony NX-3). A larger/longer shotgun would get in the frame more often - especially when you use a windscreen/softie. The small size and very reasonable price are the biggest selling points. The mic is good under normal use, though it does seem to be sensitive to background noise and peaks easily in loud situations. Over all a good value for an entry level XLR short shotgun.

I am not an audio technician and admit I do not have the ear of a professional audiophile. However, I can attest to the fact that when I use this for video interviews, documentaries or narrative short movies, the audio is very rich, clear and professional sounding. I cannot detect hiss at all. They say sound is 90% of what you see onscreen and the audio from this mic really improves my visuals, if that makes sense. I find myself reaching for this mic before my Sennheiser ME66 and RODE M30. I bought two of these for two person interview setups and their directionality is fantastic. The sound seems to have a rich slightly bass effect which is pleasing to the ear. ... More

I've been using the AT875 mic with my Panasonic AG-HMC150 for shooting events and even occasional interviews, and I found that it performs really well, especially at this price point. Of course, if you're going to be shooting in a noisy environment, it doesn't completely remove the ambient noise, but it certainly makes the subjects directly in front of the camera sound much better and cleaner than with the onboard microphone. The key is to have the subject as close to the microphone, as possible - preferably within 5 feet, or so.

This far outperforms the stock microphone that comes with the JVC HD (and HM) series--probably outperforms any stock microphone. It's still not as directional or as heavily built as my Rode NTG-3, but it's the right size for an on-camera mic, and the NTG-3 picks up too much noise when used that way. I am very pleased with the AT875 as an on-camera mic.

This is my second AT875R, the first one is still going strong. I use one on my camera (c300miii) and wanted another one to use as a boom, or have the option to have two matching boom mics. They're versatile, easy to use, durable, small, light and have very respectable audio recording properties when paired with a decent pre-am or recorder. They're more forgiving than many as far as aiming them goes, but do decent job of rejecting what you don't want, they work well with most voices, produce very little of their own noise. Easily 95 percent as good as some very high end mic's for a very reasonable investment. ... More

I have not been able to find my long shotgun mic and I needed something for my new Sony FS7. I needed to find something I could trust for a good price. Somebody on dvxuser mentioned the AT875. The test I saw indicated the side and rear rejection wasn't great. The first thing I shot with it was an outdoor event with a busy street that was at times behind me and at times to the side. The AT875 did very well especially considering the low price. The sound quality is also good for the price. It does seem to have a high end peak but that is common with shotgun mics. Also, the build quality is good and nothing I am worrying about. ... More

I used this to replace the on-board mic for my XH-A1. Although I don't have too much experience with sound, I can tell the quality of sound from this shotgun is far superior to the on-board mic. I purchased this because I wanted something compact to use all the time so the camera will still fit in my case without removing the mic.

I'm using this mic with JuicedLink preamp on my DSLR. It works GREAT. If you have some cash and looking to upgrade from something like Rode VideoMic Pro, I highly recommend this setup. Sound quality is much clearer, noise is much lower, and you get far more volume amplification. This mic is compact and lightweight yet it doesn't pick up the lens stabilizer noise if mounted on the camera's hot shoe with a shock mount -- this had been a big problem for me with VideoMic Pro. I went for the kit (with a shock mount & short XLR cable) which I think is a great deal. ... More

Very good microphone. NOT top of the line but it is definitely a go to mic for everyday usage around medium background noise. Lightweight with a carrying case and mount it will do the job with minimal sound editing necessary in post production.

I recently purchased this mic to take to Africa with our missions team to record audio separately from the camera we were using for video (the camera's mic obviously isn't that great). It did a great job isolating the people we were shooting. If you are looking for a decent alternative to really expensive mics, this is the one to get. Pros: good value for price, small enough to travel with Cons: haven't really found any yet, it does cost less than a lot of other shotgun mics so it may not produce as high quality audio, but so far I haven't noticed it. ... This microphone works rather well but has a wider pattern than typical shotgun mics. Is incredibly small and really meant for smaller camcorders where a typical shotgun mic would stick out too far and be in the shot.

Bought this mic for the Canon XA10. It fits well and works great with the XLR mic handle. It picks up sound better than the camera mics. It does seem to pick up more sound from behind the camera than it should while indoors (smallish apartment). That would be my only complaint so far. Using the mic outdoor seemed to give the best results. Much clearer sound than indoor. The mic could be a little too sensitive for enclosed spaces.

This mic is good for indoor and outdoor dialogue recording for location sound. It is sensitive, has good S/N and doesn't get the weird reverberance that other longer shotguns have when recording indoors with a long interference tube. It is also very lightweight and uses little power at low voltage. One disadvantage is it's polar pattern is slightly less directional than the longer tubes.

I bought this for my B camera for my fishing adventures I document on YouTube. The one on my main camera was so good, I decided to buy one for my second camera. The best thing: It runs on 11 to 52 volt phantom power. I run this to my DR60 mkii TASCAM at 24 volts to save on battery life. It works wonders. If you're an indie filmmaker of any level, this is a good mic for the bag. Are there better mics, yes. If you willing to spend an order of magnitude more cash, you can get a little better sounding mic. For the money, I haven't found anything better for what I do. ... More

I used this in a recent trip to the windy city of Rocky Point in Mexico. It captured wonderful audio in windy situations, a better wind screen would be useful, I would recommend buying one. Overall this is a great mic for the price! I would buy this over and over again. Nothing can beat this for the price!!!

I have used this as both camera mounted and on a boom stick. The sound quality is amazing and free of static that I have experienced with other shotgun mics. I was very impressed with how much movement I could achieve without picking up any handling noise. I actually purchased this to replace a bigger, more expensive shotgun mic I had been using, and the quality is much better! Excellent results for a small price!

This product picks up great sound from objects that are far away. I was worried about not having wireless, but this mic works great. The size of the mic stays out of the video and doesn't over whelm when using.

I've used this mic as an on-camera back up sound in run-n-gun doc stuff as well as mounted in a studio environment. Sound quality is excellent, especially for bassy male voices. Off-axis rejection is not so good, and this mic will pick up ANYTHING, near or far. This shines in a studio environment where sound is controlled.
