I've used a few other microphones, and for the purpose of getting quality audio from a large distance, this is by far the best. The large size allows it to get a great directional sound that rarely needs any tuning in post. It's simple to set up. The battery is included and all you have to do is plug the XLR cable in and go. Of course most mics work like this, but I've seen some that are more complicated. The only complaint is probably the size. With it being so large, it makes it so that many accessories cannot be used from other mics and it may be unwieldily to bring everywhere. However, this is a great product at a great price and I would definitely recommend it for anyone from enthusiast to professional. ... More

Just save up for the Rode Ntg3 or the Sennheiser 416. This microphone is so noisy!!!! I have upgraded my field recorder twice since first purchasing this microphone and I can tell you from a Zoom H4/H5 to a Tascam 680 MkII to a Sound Devices 633(which is an industry standard production sound field recorder, used by the pros) and no preamp will make this mic any less noisy. The best use you will get out of it is MAYBE/POSSIBLY an ADR mic in a nice quiet controlled booth with the talent almost eating the microphone. Otherwise the noise floor on the mic will leave any dialogue recorded through it completely unusable. And forget that battery powered option, you'll have to swap for fresh cells every 3 hours just to attempt any basic use out of it. garbage garbage garbage, Sorry AT, i like a lot of your other stuff. ... I am using a set of these microphones in the sanctuary of our church to be able to record the various church choirs that perform during service. They are located on the front of the balcony at the back of the church (approximately 50 feet away). Since I have a relatively quite environment, these microphones help to provide a very quiet background so I can enhance the audio very easily without worrying about the noise floor coming up and ruining the sound. They also allow me to do the recording without having to have hanging microphones are stand based microphones which would be intrusive to the sanctuary decor. ... More

Best Shotgun I've used for the money, especially in a high noise area. I used it on a Motorcycle Doc and we interviewed riders sitting on their bike with the motor running and still got clear dialog. The level could be a little hotter, but not much of a concern. The over caveat is when booming great care must be made to keep the mike pointing toward the mouths of the speakers/subjects.

This is a very directional microphone that rejects side sound very well. It is pretty long and the audio quality is a little on the thin side - certainly not warm and fuzzy - but what do you want for $? Not a primary mic, but in a difficult audio environment, it can be a life saver. Also a first choice if you can't get close to your subject. It does reach out very well. And AT builds thier mics like tanks, so you know it's rugged.

This microphone is used for audio testing in different venues and has performed admirably. The results have been as expected and better. The balance and overall quality makes this a mic to own. As is usual with most microphones of this size, the case could be a little more substantial, but that is to be expected. The best thing of all is that with one AA battery you can use this mic without phantom power. Great when recording on the fly with simple equipment, or for non-pro purposes.

I've used this on a variety of films and commercial shoots. Its ok. Very low output level. I thought it sounded good until I put it up next to a Rode NTG-3. When compared the AT8015 sounded thin and weak. Not exactly apple to apples, though. For the price its a good mic, and very good at rejecting off-axis sounds.

this mic is great for anything you need audio wise. The only problem with it that I have is that it's HUGE! But whatever as long as it gets good audio who really cares? I mean this will get professional audio and you'll be happy with it. Just make sure you hook your actor or actress up with a lav mic as well because those are important to getting good audio!

This is an awesome shotgun mic and it's a great price. I bought it to use on video shoots that I produce. At the moment we're mostly using it to record dialogue. My director uses a Canon 7D camera and with this mic we are now able to get great audio along with the HD video.
