After buying this mic, i was very impressed about the way this mic sounded in comparison with the nt1a. With the rode mics, ive experienced that rode mics had a somewhat harsh sound in the high mid/high frequencies in a matter of speaking which could ultimately make a sound source sound almost brittle. But with the the 2050, it was an immediate difference in the upper frequencies and was very smooth in my ears. This mic can make vocals clear and smooth and make horns sounds full and detailed. When i bought this mic, i wasnt looking for anything special but after i tried it, i was very glad i bought it. ... More

I bought this microphone to make a stereo pair with my AT-2035. Since you can put this microphone in cardioid pick up pattern I figured it would be identical to the AT-2035. It turns out that its cardioid output is 10db lower than the 2035. When I turn the pad on the 2035 their outputs are equal but this causes slightly more noise in my recording. Their outputs are equal when the 2050 is in omnidirectional pattern however this wouldn't make a very good stereo pair. The figure-8 pattern is disappointing. It has the lowest output and a good deal of noise. I don't think I would ever record in figure-8. Besides this small setback it is a great mic to use in mono for many other applications as well as in a stereo pair. The shock mount is very effective and the body seems durable. ... More

AT2050 is a great multi-pattern microphone at better than half the price of other brands, Audio-Techinca has a winner with this condenser mic. We needed a microphone to add ambience to our recording and live streaming and this unit does the job excellently. We had previously used a condenser mic that was almost ten times the cost of this one and we can not tell the difference in the quality of the recording. We live stream all of our house concerts and archive them as well, we had people from all over the country call and tell us how great the audio quality was and that it was one of the best concerts they had ever listened to online. A++ on this one. Thanks B&H again! ... More

This microphone fit the bill perfectly for an upgrade from a dynamic mic I've been using to record voice-overs.But the REAL star was the guy that helped me decide which one to get. We spent a good 30 minutes in the microphone room testing and re-testing. He listened to my needs, the mics I came in leaning toward and didn't try to hard upsell me (a little, but I think they were hones suggestions and all but one within my target range). I ended up with this one which was on the low end of my range, but was the definite winner for me. Thanks B&H! ... More

I use this mic in omnidirectional mode for group recordings with a small folk band. It's great as a reference recorder during rehearsals and helps us learn to play dynamically. It's also super for vocals (in cardiod mode). Very crisp. I personally like the frequency response but it's still yet to be tested with multiple vocalists. I wish it had a hard case - it only comes with a padded zipper bag that's not quite large enough to fit both the mic and shockmount in.

For the price, this is a very good multi-pattern condenser. Not crazy about the figure 8 pickup pattern, the positive and negative sides are very different sounding, so different that mid-side recording with this mic took a considerable amount of post to get the image just right. but the cardioid and omni patterns are very nice. low self noise, good sound. Comparable to an AKG P420. Having a 80hz high pass and a -10 db pad is very nice if you're using a plain interface that just has phantom power without the extra goodies.

Ok, if you're on a budget or just starting out, this mic is great. Especially for rap. Very clear/natural sound with a little bit of top end, but not super bright. I know a professional rap artist with an actual career that still uses this with a Focusrite interface. It may not work for everyone, but this is a great place to start. I even prefer this over the 4050 which is more expensive and considered a great vocal mic in the industry. But this mic just sounds better for a fraction of the cost.

The AT2050 is one of the most usefull all around mics I have used in the studio. It truely has it's place, the various features of this mic are exceptional. From a Cardiod, to Omni or figure 8 this mic well impress especially at its price tag.

I have a pair of these. Honestly, a set of AT microphones would be enough to make great records. They aren’t too colored or sterile. These have 3 polar patterns for use on mid-side techniques, drum overheads and vocals. I like them on acoustic guitars and piano. Great way to get a versatile microphone on a budget.

This mic has made a tremendous improvement to our mic locker. We have needed a larger condenser and this certainly has been a good choice. In several of our application the multi-pattern is handy and I love having that in a fairly reasonable microphone.

This kind of quality mic for the price can't be beat. As of now I've only been using it for v/o work, but it's just amazing. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

I got to B&H and the one of the sound engineers at the store helped me look through some mics in a osund proof room. I checked a Shure and a Blue. The AT2050 was cheaper then both but I thought I would give it a try anyway. WOW! Every sound was so crispy and the beatboxing sounded real solid. Great mic for great price.
