I have previously only used high-end audio interfaces in pro studios, so I wanted to make sure that my first low-end box for home use was the best on the market. I'm pretty sure this is it. Converters sound amazing. What else do you need? Well - its got a few bells and whistles too - the Input/DAW mix knob is super-useful - although they look minimal, the LED meter is actually very usable as the lights dim across multiple LEDs. There's a monitor mute button, and the big volume knob can be 'clicked' like a mouse button to dim the monitor output. There's also dual headphone outputs (1/4" and 1/8"). Small details, but very useful pro features IMO. Apparently you can assign the 'ID' button to control things like talkback, dim or mono (which I will be doing). Kudos to the Audient designers for fitting all this into a very slick little box. Tested input 1 (XLR/1/4") with a condenser mic - phantom worked fine - input level pot is very smooth. Great sound as I mentioned. Tested input 2 (1/4" line only) with a digital guitar modeler - clean as a whistle. Then I tested both inputs with stereo signal from the multi-effect - very easy to get the levels exactly the same using the LED metering. Tested the outputs via powered studio monitors - mute and dim work perfectly. Build seems very solid - its got a tiny footprint, all metal construction, very nice finish and intuitive to use. Great sound, pro feel and features. Only down-side I could find was that with the input level pots all the way down I could still hear my guitar multieffect faintly with the mix pot all the way to input - didn't test whether it tracked in my DAW - but it's barely and issue. Installation (Windows 10) was a little frustrating too - but my unit was used (Mint) so maybe you'll have better luck - supposedly you just plug it in and it installs. Eventually went to Audient.com for the installer - took a few attempts. ... More

I am using the Audient iD4 for voiceover with a Sennheiser shotgun microphone plugged in. The preamp in this unit is outstanding and yields a flat, clear sound. I find that my microphone does require the gain to be turned up about 2/3 of the way to get a good signal. Ultimately I might put a Fethead Phantom in front of the microphone but it will do just fine without one. There is one issue I have with the iD4 and that is with the headphone settings. This unit does not save your headphone level or pan settings because there is no indicator on the dial where your levels are set. So this will reset your headphone volume and will pan the inputs hard to one side every time you turn off your computer. Very irritating. I contacted Audient because I thought this indicated a fault with the hardware. They said that this was a standard function of the iD4. They need to strongly consider pushing out a firmware update to allow the unit to save the headphone settings. ... More

The ID4 is a high quality (metal constructed) interface that is perfect for my home recording needs. I record my upright bass into a DAW (Reaper), and I can create independent two tracks. Sound is great (and based on others tests is very high quality for the price) and volume levels have been fine (Shure SM57, which needs a pretty loud source, works well with input turned to about 8 for my bass at about 12 inches), Ischell contact mic on the bass at about 5). My priority was solid drivers that make and keep device connections (to my Mac Mini) without fuss, and this unit has not failed yet. I particularly love the highly functional monitoring knobs. I also use the unit as my standard DA converter to listen to content on my Mac, given the convenient volume knobs, or to mix music into my practice with a digital piano. The iD function to adjust DAW controls works with some, but not many of the controls in Reaper, but this is no issue for me. While slightly more money than some units, its attractive, works great, and I am very happy with my purchase. ... More

The Audient iD4 is a fantastic product in its own right. Overall build quality is very good, with a solid heft to it, not heavy, just sturdy. At first I was a bit skeptical that having only one microphone input would be a disadvantage, but the JFET DI is absolutely fantastic, and combined with the included Torpedo Wall of Sound plug-in, virtually eliminates my desire to mic any of my own cabinets. As far as the microphone input is concerned, I literally had to add effects to my voice to tell whether or not there was even an input, because there was so little latency. If there is one thing that will bother me when recording, it is latency, and the iD4 has virtually none to my ear, which makes tracking things with feel just that much easier. Lastly, the scroll function is a huge added bonus and makes fine changes a breeze in my DAW (LPX). Highly recommend this interface. ... More

Im not a professional guy. I just enjoy making music and occasionally do my own singing... I was using Mobile Pre USB for the past 10 years. It was okay for what I was doing but I thought I would upgrade to something a little bit better. I did some homework and found the Audient iD4 to be a good upgrade. Well, after using it for a week, I can tell you that this unit is superb! gave me so much more than what I asked for. I can also hear the improve sound over my old M-Audio unit. I highly recommend it to anyone who doesnt want to spend a lot of money but yet want a good audio interface! ... More

This has been the best interface I have ever tried for voiceover work. The preamps are so clear, It has a good converters, the signal goes pretty transparent to my daw. I like the monitor options, It has enough output signal to monitor your voice. I only dislike a little bit to adjust the volumen every time I switch it up. The volumen button is pretty sensitive and you can change yout output settings without knowing what You did. But It works well a lot.

Great sound, much better than others I've used to now. Since this is an iOS-oriented product, documentation and tutorials should be updated to reflect current versioning. Since these things are so turnkey generally, even small ambiguities can have a big effect, especially with inexperienced users.

Great little box. The iD button alone is worth the price of admission. You can grab pretty much anything under your mouse in Logic with ease and tweak it with the big knob. Wish other controllers had such simple but powerful functionality.

The interface works great. It's one of the simplest to use. I plug my amp into it and use the headphones so only the pc and I can hear the music. So I don't bug my roommate recording voice overs in the next room.

I've heard about that in its price range it was far better option than its other interface. When I tested it out it was super good. Recording = clean signal, Sounds out of monitor = super clean Great product, great price.
