When I first started my business had another set of headphones and I kept trying to eq to make it sound right. and it sounded wrong when I got back to the studio. I went back to the vendor and listened to a bunch of headphones and picked the AKG K 240. They seem flat to me, no boost anywhere. I also learned to never eq in the field. This is my second set of K-240s and the new features are great. The replaceable cord and the lower impedance (600 ohms on the first pair) make these so much better but the response is still flat to my ears. ... More

In the 80's when these first came out I was in my studio with a sales rep and he handed me a pair. I listened to my Urei 911 monitors, then these, handed them back and said I need a pair of these! This purchase (on sale) is replacing those 30 year onld cans and they sound marvelous. Flat and responsive, best on the market.

The AKG K240 Studio Pro Semi-Open Stereo Headphones continue to be widely used in recording studios because of quality build, long lasting performance without degradation of sound quality, detailed sound without an overbearing amount of mid highs, light weight for comfortable long wear time, super comfortable soft, wide headband and large ear pads that won't hurt your ears, a semi open design that allows ambient sound without distraction, and an extra long wire that is uncurled so it doesn't put strain on any audio jacks or connections.

Earphones are light, comfortable to wear, extremely long cord, LARGE, easy to adjust positioning over head and on ears.I wear them primarily while watching movies and the dialogue is not bright (compared to my Bose $99 earphones). I have to turn the volume up two steps to match the output from other earphones (Bose, audio-technica). For music they are better since understanding dialogue isn't as critical. If I had to use one word to describe the audio output I'd say slightly muffled. I bought them on sale at B&H -- for that price they're not bad. I almost returned them but decided to keep them as backups. ... More

I bought my first pair in the 90's and used them up to last year and now i have the next generation and it's like not missing a beat. These feel and sound like my older pair so i don't even notice that they are a new pair.I like the semi open sound my ears don't get worn out like they do with closed in headphones.I mixed 6 CD's with the old k240's and hope to mix many more with these.

AKG K240 gives very interesting and clear sound from almost any source^ including built-in laptop sound card (though I was afraid I'll need the amplifier). Bass are deep enough and not too annoying or smashing your brains. Very good works the self-adjustment system when it's always fits your head. They are semi-open which means you still are able to hear sounds around you. What is not good: when listening music loudly people around can hear it as well with you.. and saying that you are sharing a good music :)

The K240s are great headphones, especially for the low price. Build construction is solid; it may look like theres not enough padding on the headrest but these headphones are so light that it doesnt matter. They are comfortable for hours on end and dont fatigue my ears. The frequency response in the upper midrange does seem slightly exaggerated compared to my Yamaha HS8 monitors. However I do not have the equipment to verify this emperically. As with any audio gear, if you want to mix and master on these youll need to really get used to their sound.

I would say this K 240 is a very open semi-open circumaural headphones. You have a feeling of spaciousness. You have to wait for few hours before getting the full potential of these headphones, but then they sound great: as studio headphones, don't buy them if you want an improved sound with extra-basses. It's the opposite, they try to be the more neutral as possible. The removal cable is a good option. And the K240 is incredibly confortable on the head.

Got my first pair back in 1999 and they still sound amazing. Actually, probably better than ever. Also have a pair of the AKG K701's and while they do sound better, I prefer the K240's for long sessions due to comfort. They're so comfortable you forget you're wearing them whereas the K701 headphones dig into your scalp after a while and are heavier. These are amazing headphones, and for the price there's nothing even close to as good. Just don't expect to use them on a laptop or non-powered source, they take a bit of extra juice to get full sound from them. ... More

I've been a recording musician for 3 decades and I swear by these, I've owned 3 sets for them in the last 25 years and I still have 2 of them. I also listen to hi-fi music with them. They were designed in 1975 so they're doing something right! Head to head with Sennheiser HD280 Pro the AKG's win for overall sound and bass. The Senn's have a better midrange. I play bass, guitar, keys, electric cello and bouzouki and these give me exactly what I want. They also give you an accurate representation of what the final mix is going to sound like. You don't want anything hi-fi for that. ... More

Have been using AKG 240s since the 70s. Have yet to find any other head phone that sounds as clear and natural as the AKG 240s. Use for for recording & mixing and live mixes. Really important to have headphones which are natural, not enhanced. They also work with portable devices, should you choose to use this type of device with a portable device. Use with Presonus Sudio Live consoles, AKG HP6E and Presonus HP4 amps.

I use these for home recording/producing. They are extremely comfortable, for long periods of time too. Also wear glasses and they're still comfortable. Sound quality is awesome. The semi open ear design means it's not the best when recording vocals, but there's probably a diy fix you can pull off if you don't have closed earbud headphones available. great build quality too, have had a pair I bought used a few years ago and just recently got a new pair for a friend.

I got these as part of a package for setting up my home voice recording studio. I don't have much to compare them to, but they work great with the pre-amp and mic I bought with them. Before I set all that up, I plugged them into my ipod and the sound was incredible; I was getting chills from songs I'd never have given a second thought.

My friend, Katie, has four decades of experience as a sound tech. I asked her input when I decided I needed a new set of headphones. Her almost immediate response was AKG K240. When I asked why, she answered that they are lightweight, comfortable and reference quality. Damn, was she ever right. I can wear these for hours, and the sound is all I could ask for. Oh, and they were well under my budget.

I purchased the AKG K240 Studio Headphones after seeing them on several Top Ten lists for Guitar Amp headphones, as well as the 4+ star reviews on Guitar Center, where I purchased them for an amazing $65. They sound great and serve their purpose, which was for practicing at home. I would recommend them. My only negative is the headband isn't as easily adjustable as other on-ear headphones I've owned. It could just be personal preference, but they require a little more effort than I would expect.

I bought this headphones for the features: semi-open, I think there are not another good option at this price, very comfortable for long time of use and the sound is very neutral not colored, I'm not professional in audio but I think this headphones reproduce a flat sound in mind to monitor the real frequencies. I use them for silent practice with electric guitar and I found them better than any other headphone types like closed or cancelling noise, is less stressful in long periods of use.

When i listen to a song on the headphones, it is almosy like hearing the song for the first time again. I bought these with the intention of using them in my studio, but i will also be using these for everyday listening. If you havent listened to music on these, you're missing out!

These are my very favorite headphones, and I'm not just saying that because I was asked to write a review. These headphones were top of the line studio headphones for years. If you watch videos of producers in studio, they're likely to be wearing a pair. They have a very nice distribution of sound that is very open and relaxed. You don't feel like sound is being jammed into your ears. The mix of bass and highs is very even. If you like heavy heavy bass, these won't be what you're looking for. Overall, I've never been happier with a set of headphones. ... More

I really like these headphones. The sound they prodice is great, and seems to have a wide range. The headphones cover the ears, and they are comfortable. Music sounds gread from my iPhone played throught these headphones. My only concern is that the adjustment to fit over your head, doesn't seem to go any smaller than where they are at right now. So for me, they tend to fit a little loose. I will say that the sound reproduction through these headphones is far better than what I get out of my ear buds. I feel these Headphones were a great value for the price. ... More

I am a video shooter/editor and many times I am called to edit music/audio. My problems in the past with over-the-ear headphones have been that they become very uncomfortable after hours of editing. These headphones are very comfortable and large for my big ears. They are also breathable so my ears don't get overheated as easily. Only con that I can think of is that I wish it cancelled out external noise more.
