The original dual diaphragm AKG C3000 condenser is a greatly misunderstood and under appreciated microphone. IMO the original C3000 (dual diaphragm) sounds a lot better on instruments than it’s successor the C3000B and C3000. How confusing. Basically, the same microphone now has two names. To be more specific the original C3000 sounds excellent in the application of acoustic guitar for reasons that its equalization is tuned, almost tailored in fashion for acoustic guitar. In my trials, comparing the C3000B and C214 to the old C3000 on acoustic guitar, the original C3000 sounded better without the low end boom possessed by the C214 and C3000B. With the roll off engaged on the C3000B and C214, to get the low equalized, it still requires more tweaking at the board. The roll off on the original C3000 is EQed almost perfectly for acoustic guitar. Therefore, my preference for the old C3000. I did also compared the performance of old C3000 to that of a C414B-ULS. The latter faired better, of course, but the old C3000 held its own. So the original C3000 is a really good instrument mic. In addition to the application of acoustic guitar I have also used it on clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, piano, and other instruments all to good outcome. And this is where the old C3000 excels. Unfortunately, the original C3000 has been given a bad reputation, I think mostly for its use in the application of vocals. Now if you have items like a U47, C414s, and others good vocal mics in your arsenal, like I do, you can see why the old C3000 is not a vocal mic. So if you want a good vocal mic, get something silky like a high end Neumann, AKG, or Telefunken. Don’t mess around. But don’t expect the humble old C3000 to sound anything like those mics. Meanwhile, I highly recommend the original C3000 in the application of acoustic guitar in either settings of live sound reinforcement or studio monitoring/recording. My personal preference is using a stereo pair in an X/Y pattern on acoustic flat or archtop. Twinkie ... More

I bought the AKG C3000 primarily because I was looking for a decent condenser microphone, form a reputable manufacturer, within budget. I never expected a magnificent sound from this mic. But my expectations were surpassed considering the sound derived form the C3000. To begin with, this mic is solidly built in Vienna, Austria and looks elegant in black metallic finish. I use it with m101 preamp and the sound is clear and upfront. Given the price, it delivers a well defined sound. I am pleased!

This is the black one with the suspension mic holder. I do not know which iteration of the C3000 this is. I will say that this mic does an outstanding job as an overhead mic on drums. I use these (this my 3rd one) for live work and I always get full, broad coverage and clear, warm, articulate, well balanced sound. This mic does not have a narrow pick up pattern like many of the small diaphragm mics. I also like that I can engage the switchable roll-off to avoid adding to much low end to the mix. I have never tried tried it in other on-stage roles mostly because I already have other select mics in those positions. If you're working with cymbals that have a bit too much high end or worse the AKG C3000 is a helpful tool in taming the brashness or "icepick" characteristics ... More

Made from 1993-1999 in Austria. This original retailed for around $749 when it was released. The C3000B and the current version are completely different and inferior microphones by a long shot. These are great all round mics, so much so I have 10 of them. Check out the video to hear the raw mics - https://youtu.be/OGRQ5fMWPM4

I play in a Bluegrass band - we use two C3000s for lead and harmony vocals at our regular gig. We get great reproduction and gain before feedback on stage. And B&H had the best price and cheapest shipping online!

The AKG original (2 pattern) c3000 is a great mic - Silver or Black. With that being said I've not used a single pattern c3000b or the new (single pattern) c3000. Nice and clear on vocals, strings, and some brass.

glad I found this, as I have one of the older ones (like this one) and only seeing one or two on reverb...its an under rated mic for some reason BUT on overheads for drums its pretty much just a great mic, has some nice sliding controls that are perfect for this application

As a lover of heritage/used equipment I have to report that this lightly used gem has joined it's stablemate, ready to take on vocals, drum overhead and most any other duty where an affordable clean, clear and crisp balanced tone is called for. I couldn't be happier! GO REVERB!!!!!!!!!!!

I moved from USB to this mic and though I was really happy, this baby is a great step for that extra presence.
