Great, but a terror on batteries
I've owned the M1 and the M3, and moved to this one for the phase detect focus improvement. I've been very happy with it except for how fast it burns through batteries. I have one spare, but am getting ready to purchase a second one because two may not be enough for a day of shooting. This is my backup/street/pocket camera, but often I am out for a full day of shooting with it.

Great Little Camera
It takes great photos and videos with just the push of a button. Nice and compact to fit in a pocket. My only complaint so far is the send to phone feature has not worked either by WiFi or NFC. Not sure what the problem is.

All inclusive
This camera will satisfy all the needs of an amateur. Has all the features one needs to take almost any subject. The only downside for me is that despite the tiny size, it is heavy in your hands.

Clear, SharpPhotos in a Small Body
Bought this for times when I don't want to carry the A-9. Photos are sharp and clear. My only complaint is the inability to securely attach a lens filter. If you are paying attention Sony, I would pay extra for this feature.

great little camera
have used the RX100V on a couple trips now, happy I got it, picture quality very good (at least as good as my bulky old Canon T2 rebel), small size easy to carry, read the manual and practice a few things before you need it, as there are a few non-intuitive features, I thought battery life was fine for all day casual shooting, a good camera to have fun with

Great camera, still learning about it
Decided on the M5 over the new M6, primarily due to the steep $300 difference. The camera lens and sensor are awesome, the play memories app for transferring images to the iPhone is weak, but works. The manual is sparse, but I downloaded the 300 page one off the Sony website. I hope to get some of the image quality I see on Instagram, but I think those photos have been through a lot of filtering and desktop software enhancement. I think the portr... Show More

Nothing but problems
I bought this camera in march to use as a small alternative to my a7r while traveling. It worked great for about 4 weeks and then it began powering itself off and on randomly without even touching it. The viewfinder also randomly pops up. While shooting it powers itself off. this happened while I was in France and sony refused to repair it in France or ship it to the u.s. for repair. So I waited a month to return to the U.S. Now sony repair has a... Show More

excellent quality in very small and versatile unit
This is a marvel of a camera. As a guy who grew up with Nikon 35's, the quality matches those days, in a very convenient package for travel and even a professional application, here and there. The eye level finder is a brilliant addition.

Nice one with good price
I bought this camera for 2 weeks it runs smooth and sharp. The only concern is the battery life, you'd better take a standby battery.

Ideal and nearly perfect
I've used professional gear for decades but wanted something light, easy to carry without sacrificing photo quality and professional camera control options. This camera fits the bill very well. The one-inch sensor isn't a problem because most images are used on social media, SMS or email communication, which don't require a high degree of resolution. Nice features include lilting flash for bounce lighting, the ability to lower the flash power and... Show More

Best compact camera, Period
Had a version RX100 (I) when it came out few years ago until it broke. Then I bought Olympus MD because it was cheaper and was supposed to be good. I pretty much stopped taking photos because the MD just feels too heavy and clumsy and can't capture moving children all that well. Its a bitter pill to swallow to shell so much money for a compact camera, but once you do, you will be happy you did. Nothing compares.

So much camera fits into my shirt pocket.
I bought this camera to replace my old Canon G4, which I used for vacations, street photography and any other time I don't want to be weighed down with a DSLR sized equipment. After a week of using the RX100 V in Paris I have to say this has been a great investment. Shooting RAW stills on Program and setting the exposure compensation to about +2 stops made for great images that I could make quickly without thinking too hard about exposure accurac... Show More

Terrific Pocket Camera with Doubtful Ergonomics
I have had the RX100v for six months, and it is mostly love with a large side order of frustration. Every camera is a series of trade-offs: size, price, sensor size, and numerous other features. Given its tiny size, and its one inch sensor, the Sony performs at an astonishing level of image quality with rich features, both in stills and video. I have traveled with this camera to both Costa Rica, on a wildlife photography workshop (it was obvious... Show More

Wonderful small camera
This is almost better than my Fujifilm X100F which weighs much more for a travel camera. My only complaint is I wish it had more megapixels.

Superb little camera
Perfect pocket camera for somebody who knows something about photography. Takes great photos. Has aperture priority, shutter priority, and manual modes. Even has a panorama mode. Can generate raw files (except for panorama mode). Once sound effects are disabled, very quiet camera. AF works well. Only gripe is it's complexity, it's more complex than a typical DSLR. I suggest buying a good third-party guide to supplement the Sony instruction manual.

Lots of features, but has problems.....
Purchased the RX100-V for the sole reason to shoot HFR mode for lightning. I am satisfied with the HFR settings, and I understand about the need for a fast shutter speed to capture and make it work. For my specific purpose I MUST have bright daylight in order to get slow motion video of lightning to be usable. Of course often the best time to capture lightning is near or after sunset, and as a result, there is TONS of noise due to fast shutter sp... Show More

Outstanding small package.
It is amazing what Sony have packed into such a small package. It seems to do everything better than my Alpha NEX 7 can do except have interchangeable lenses. I bought it for my wife to replace a more then 10 year old Coolpix that takes seconds to turn on, and seconds to save a shot, and has no real steady shot. Not a recipe for good shots of the grandchildren. So far it looks as though the RX100 fixes all those deficiencies in spades. An HD movie I shot of her piano student's recital was excellent.

Excellent performance in a small container.
This is a generally robust camera, but beause of its size, some features like the mobile viewscreen, and pop-up viewfinder require some care when handling. I was able to fit this in the case with the ad-R2 attachment grip. The case is a bit snug on the lens and is NOT waterproof.

The camera that does it all
Only have had this camera for a few weeks but have yet to find anything I don't like about it. I've been a Canon person for many years and DSC-RX100 V has replaced my Canon G5X, which I really liked, but damaged it after a long hard drop to the pavement. After reading the specs of the RX100 V, I decided to give it a try and am not sorry. It outperforms the G5X on almost every level, especially fast focus and image quality. I was fond of my G5X but love my RX100 V.

Underwater photography
I have been a DSLR user for several years, but since just one I have been involved in underwater photography as a complement to my diving hobby. I have used the GoPro Hero 4 that I find very good for video, but I wanted better results and more control in photography. I had to choose between buying a housing and accessories for my DSLR camera or starting from scratch with compact equipment, opting for the latter for three reasons: price, ease of t... Show More

Extremely impressive camera for the size
This is by far the best "point and shoot" I've owned. It's awfully expensive -- a Panasonic with similar specs -- and a slightly faster lens -- is half the price. But what sets this camera apart is its "pro" features. It was clearly designed with a person who's used to full-featured DSLRs in-mind. And as a good bonus--the 4K video looks very good, too. It's extremely fast and responsive, and has wonderful low-light performance. I don't think I'l... Show More

Best point and shoot to date
Love this camera, this is a great option when I don't want to lug my Canon 5drs, but don't want to miss a real photo op. It has amazing image quality and a very good optical zoom range. Would have liked it to go to about 100mm on the zoom but not if it meant a larger foot print. The number of features (Bells and whistles) are incredible for such a small size. I also discovered that it works perfect for use with my Seitz Roundshot, for doing gigapixel, panoramas and VR.
