Its all you need for photo and video !!
Lets make this short and simple.. when it comes to photo it is comparable to nikon d5 and canon 1dx ii but Sony has more detail and at the sweet spot of 24 MP , 20 FPS, excellent AF , and high ISO. On the Video side 1dxii or d5 does not even compare... however a9 is candicapped compared to its own sony 7 series without the s log but other than the s log... its still the best!

Sony has made a great camera!
Very pleased with this camera. I don't appreciate that the Log settings were left out but the ability to shoot video at 4K and 120fps at 1080p is great. For photography, the AF is improved from the a7 series and the silent shutter plus 20fps shooting is pretty unreal. Very fast and responsive. High level, professional clarity. Dealing with the Sony RAW images is a bit of a pain in the butt because you can't just review quickly from the laptop fin... Show More

Outstanding Camera!
I am surprised and pleased how much I love A9. I am primarily a landscape photographer using a Sony A7rII or Canon 5DMkIV. The A9 IQ is outstanding. The smaller 24 mp files are a pleasure to work with and the eye focus AF is incredible...it's almost impossible to take a bad photograph of people with this feature. The battery is a significant improvement. I was able to get about 1200 shots on one battery. Fingers crossed the A7rIII/A9r will come w... Show More

Best Overall Camera
I purchased an a9 to replace an a7RII and I am glad I did! While you don't get the insanely sharp 42 MP resolution that the a7RII provides, the a9 image quality is still very good and high ISO performance is excellent. The best part however is the focusing system. The a9 locks in really fast even in dark situations where my a7RII would struggle. I am not much of a sports or action shooter so I don't even use the 20 FPS burst mode but single shot ... Show More

Wouldn't hesitate to buy again!
Like many, I come from a long history of shooting Canon over the years but made the switch to Sony for it's strong base in great quality 4k video. We now shoot stills and video with the Sony A7rII and the A9. Up until now, I still missed the responsiveness of a good Canon 1D series on our photo shoots. The A9 puts all those worries away and really lets you focus on grabbing the right decisive moment with ease. While I still use the A7rii for many... Show More

The Next Level
Just used the A9 for the first time to shoot indoor volleyball along with a number of other events. This camera focuses faster and more accurately than anything I've ever used before and I've used a Canon 1DX Mark II. Seemed like the only misses came when I didn't get the focus point on the subject. The lack of black out from the shutter is a game changer and face detection is better than any I've ever used. It makes everything seem so effortless... Show More

Power and versatility
Form, function and engineering combine to make a truly remarkable camera. All hype aside, this is an outstanding piece of equipment. The focus acquisition speed is incredible, image quality is excellent, and the build quality and feel of the machine are exceptional. I feel it works extremely well for sports shooting, of course, but also fashion, portrait, landscape, whatever. Seriously, this camera is so versatile and well made that I would use i... Show More

Sony a9 is an exceptional camera
I was a Canon shooter and then moved to the Nikon system. Was always looking at the mirrorless systems but felt it wasnt ready for professional work. Then I saw the announcement of the a9 and it caught my attention and all the features I was looking for. I am a professional wedding photographer and I ended up pulling the trigger and while it was an expensive switch, I am happy I did. The camera is not for everyone, but it sure fits my needs and I couldnt ask for more. I have it paired with the 50 1.4 and its an amazing combo.

Awesome in low-light
Had an event to shoot. Not expecting the lights to be off, but just the stage lights. Not allowed to use a flash, boosted the ISO up to 6400 and man did these pictures pop. This is my first time using an mirrorless DSLR camera. Sony a9 Sony 24-70 f/2.8

Just lacking the professional finesse
There are many good points for this camera. However in the end I returned it. I was not moved enough with the IQ as to what I have now. Nor was I overly impressed with the Sony 24-70G master zoom. I want native lenses, I do not need AF being off because of a 3rd party lens, or adapters with tolerances that can be off. That's part of the reason you want a mirrorless to avoid intolerances. Now I do think the D5 focus' quicker and more precise, mayb... Show More

Great specs, fast and amazing camera
As an Artisan of Imagery I was able to test the a9 a few weeks ago and was blown away by the fast AF, shutter speed and huge buffer. Image quality is top notch, and dynamic range impressive.

Best camera I have ever owned
A long-time Nikon user, I jumped to Sony a few years back and use the A99 and the previous A7r camera. This one, by far, is the best camera I have owned and used. It's lighting fast, includes more options, is more intuitive to use, and feels great in my hands.

So much to enjoy
Coming from Canon, let me list what I like: 1) the evf is fantastic. What you see is what you get 2) the no blackout is addictive. Once you use it you can't go back 3) silent shooting is very odd at first 4) the exposure compensation dial is very convenient in concert with the evf 5) the picture quality is superb. I thought it might pale in comparison to my 5DS. It holds it own 6) the high ISO performance is the best I have used 7) the tracking a... Show More

Absolutely Insane Camera!
I had the opportunity to use this camera at the Sony Alpha Collective Kando Trip 1.0 a few weeks ago in California. Just picking this camera up, I could feel the improvements over the previous Sony models. It just felt sturdy. The autofocus tracking is like a cheat code honestly. It's so fast and rarely misses. The 'no blackout' feature is a much needed upgrade from previous models! Some points worth noting are, of course: the dynamic range, the ... Show More

Five Steps Forward, Two Steps Back
I sure wanted to love this camera... I've been on the Sony train since the NEX-5 in 2010. I've enjoyed the journey and in the process I've funded Sony's R&D. Each step has been great leading up to the a7rii which is so stellar. But it's focus capability, particularly in low light and very variable face and eye detection are always a frustration. But when it hits, the results are so great. So enter the a9. Was this the answer to my dreams- killer ... Show More

Impressed BUT
I am a longtime professional shooter having used Canon for the last dozen years or so (along with several others) and became entertained with the Sony system (A7s). The A9 is a giant step forward in performance, menus, FOCUS rocks! especially compared to the previous generations of A series cameras. As with any system, non are perfect. My biggest complaints are the tether options - the micro USB is flimsy at best and the use of ethernet does not ... Show More

Overheating is real, so is the awesome video quality
This review is for the A9 video capabilities. Last year I shot a 2-part special for national broadcast on the A7sII's. We needed a cheap solution for a remote shoot in bad weather and low light. They performed well, so well, that I bought the A9 as soon as it came out. I just returned from a 4 day shoot in Cuba and i must say, the video is outstanding for the price. The lack of picture profiles and customization didn't bother me on the project. T... Show More

Sony A9 ushers in a new era in photography!
In 2-3 years, no one will be talking about mirrorless cameras. There will be only mirrorless. The Sony A9 just drove the final nail into the DSLR coffin. With all my previous pro DSLRs - Nikon D3S, D4, Canon 1DX II - it took me a few sessions to learn and use the autofocusing well. Not so with the A9. From the first AF-C shot, pretty much everything worked perfectly right out of the gate. The autofocusing tracking is simply the best I have seen, ... Show More

Extraordinary Camera Body
For a couple of years now I've been shooting with a Leica Q. I love my Q, compact, simple, excellent and distinctive photographs with the fixed 28mm lens. I shot for 3 weeks in Japan this spring with only the Q and made many good photographs. But, there were times when I wished I'd had more control over my composition than that offered by walking closer or farther from my subject. I have the new Canon 24-70 2.8L II lens.
