The Next Level
Just used the A9 for the first time to shoot indoor volleyball along with a number of other events. This camera focuses faster and more accurately than anything I've ever used before and I've used a Canon 1DX Mark II. Seemed like the only misses came when I didn't get the focus point on the subject. The lack of black out from the shutter is a game changer and face detection is better than any I've ever used. Absolutely Insane Camera!
I had the opportunity to use this camera at the Sony Alpha Collective Kando Trip 1.0 a few weeks ago in California. Just picking this camera up, I could feel the improvements over the previous Sony models. It just felt sturdy. The autofocus tracking is like a cheat code honestly. It's so fast and rarely misses. A new standard for mirrorless cameras.
I was hoping the A9 would impress me and it went above and beyond. I shoot a lot of family events with about 20 people in constant motion. The speed of the camera is outstanding but I was surprised at how the speed of the autofocus system was improved. I rarely miss a shot to poor focus anymore. Sony has made a great camera!
Very pleased with this camera. I don't appreciate that the Log settings were left out but the ability to shoot video at 4K and 120fps at 1080p is great. For photography, the AF is improved from the a7 series and the silent shutter plus 20fps shooting is pretty unreal. Very fast and responsive. High level, professional clarity. Beast in a Small Package - My main Surf Photography Body
I have the A7 III and was waiting on the rumored new announcements. However, when Sony dropped the price on this - I could not hesitate. This works amazingly with the Sigma MC-11 and 500mm. It will reach 20fps if you let up on the autofocus and has to be hitting 10-12 even with continuous. Power and versatility
Form, function and engineering combine to make a truly remarkable camera. All hype aside, this is an outstanding piece of equipment. Fantastic camera
I have shot Canon since 1973 and I am 69 years old. I was shooting with a Canon 5D mark lll all L glass. It was getting too heaving and I needed to make a change and Sony was leading the pack in mirrorless. I have been using it for less than three weeks and I can not be more pleased. The set up was pretty simple and the biggest plus for me is incredible fast focusing. I still like Canon but I have had three shoulder surgeries in the past year and had to make a switch to a lighter camera. I am very pleased with my Sony a 9 and would recommend it highly.

More keepers. More fun.
I own a Canon 1Dx II, Canon 5DIV, and Nikon D500. I owned the Sony a7rII but sold it as at the end of the day, it never focused nearly as well as the aforementioned cameras. I'll put it simply, the a9 gives me more keepers than my Canon 1Dx II, and is easier and more fun to use to boot. I have the a9 configured to where I can get 4 different AF Areas (with AF activated by the push AND associated with preferred AF-S or AF-C) with 4 different buttons. It's a dream. Never really need to go into the menus to change AF Mode nor AF Area. Keep going Sony...

over heat ?
I got problem Indicator triangle warning ( out side camera not feel hot just warm like Fujifilm X-T2 I have ) after use 40 mins in normal use not video, not 20fps, in good weather about 72oF, 9:00AM Sunday morning, that time battery still have 70% Then I turn it off, take battery out about 1 hour, try again then 40 mins happen again, I have only one battery, another come next Wednesday This is big problem, Try again today on beach, maybe return it Sony A9 + SEL70-200mm,F4 G OSS Thank B&H about fast shipping, I got my at 7:00PM Saturday

Sony a9 is an exceptional camera
I was a Canon shooter and then moved to the Nikon system. Was always looking at the mirrorless systems but felt it wasnt ready for professional work. Then I saw the announcement of the a9 and it caught my attention and all the features I was looking for. I am a professional wedding photographer and I ended up pulling the trigger and while it was an expensive switch, I am happy I did. The camera is not for everyone, but it sure fits my needs and I couldnt ask for more. I have it paired with the 50 1.4 and its an amazing combo.

Sony A9
My initial experiences with this camera are all positive. The fast frame rate is amazing. I have to remember to step it down when I do not need it since it fires so fast. The lack of blackout is phenomenal along with silent shutter. I have not experienced any major focusing issues with the complete array of G Master lenses I own. I highly recommend this camera, It does the job it's supposed to do and the recent substantial price reduction is what made me finally decide to pull the trigger.

Not too shabby
This camera is very much like any other Sony third generation body with the exception of the technology centered around the sensor. This is a great camera for sports. It's Amazing. That said, if you do not shoot fast athletes or animals, there's is absolutely no reason to get this camera over The A7III or A7RIII. None. The speed of this camera is overkill for anything else. If you are a sports shooter like I am, the extra money is worth it and you won't have any buyer's remorse.

the A-9 is without a doubt cutting edge technology SONY should be commended for their engineering marvel. my use of this equipment is mostly sports and journalism however there are times when the need is more day to day still photography. this product is versatile and will meet the most demanding standards obviously shutter speed is incredible beyond belief, only item left open to the engineers is improving the number of mega pixels. completely recommend this product 2 thumbs up

Spectacular Camera
I bought after living with an A7RIII and A7III for months. It does not disappoint. As a result, I have sold the A7III and will use the A9 for daily shooting, sports, action, and wildlife; the A7RIII will be primarily for portraits and landscape where extreme detail are required. With the upcoming firmware update, the Sony Alpha (wolves?) will maintain their position at the top of the camera food chain! Eye AF is absolutely stunning and will be even better with the new firmware!

Dream Camera
I have had a LOT of cameras over the past 20 years. The technology in this camera is incredible. 20 FPS allows me to capture sports moments I was never able to before. The ability to customize with registered settings, allow me to switch from AF-C at 20 FPS with Lock-on AF and a fast shutter speed, to AF-S, a low shutter speed and Wide focus area with one button press. Release the button and I'm back to how the camera is set. No missed shot opportunities with this camera.

THE SONY A9 HAS CONSISTENT FOCUS ACCURACY AND SPEED AND THE PHYSICAL LAYOUT IS GREAT.THE FORM AND FUNCTION AND ENGINEERING COMBINE TO MAKE A TRULY GREAT CAMERA.IMAGE QUALITY IS EXCELLENT AND BUILD QUALITY IS EXCEPTIONAL.I HAVE PAIRED WITH SONY 85mm FE f1.8, 55mm fe 1.8. Great addition to my A7rIII.
I am a wildlife and landscape photographer and needed a camera that had a bit faster AF for shooting birds in flight and the A9 meets or exceeded my expectations. There are few Youtube posts about using the A9 for wildlife so was taking a chance by purchasing this camera. The only other addition I need for my type of shooting is for Sony or a third party to release a lens in the 150-600, 200-600 or 60-600 in E-mount.

We love our A9!
We are super happy with our Sony A9! We primarily use this camera for weddings and portraiture. The AF system is VERY fast and accurate thus far. Our secondary camera body is the Sony A7Rii which we do l love as well, but the Sony A9's RAW files are smaller (no deal breaker being 24mp) which allows for a faster post processing time. We plan on buying another Sony A9 when we can afford to do so.

Just got the new Sony A-9
I've only had it a week, but already appreciating what it can do. Ergonomics are better--especially the grip and the placement of the movie button. I use the new top dials a lot. When I encountered a long stream of cyclists coming up a hill, I was able to use focus tracking to keep the lead cyclist in focus as he approached. So far, all the raves I've read in reviews appear to be true.

Amazing Performance
The Sony Alpha a9 full-frame mirrorless camera delivers on performance. I'm fairly new to "hands-on" photography (i.e., not just point and shoot) so I am still figuring out all the bells and whistles. Most of the reviews I have read on this camera are accurate. I agree, the menus can be a little confusing, but in general, intuition can get you to the settings you are looking for.
