Big Improvement in Video vs. A99/A77

Dec 17, 2014

I mainly bought this camera for sports photography, but since none of the other reviews talk about the video abilities, I'll focus on that part of the camera: With recent 2.0 firmware release (free download from Sony) and the addition of the XAVC-S codec, the A77II is the first Sony DSLT camera to offer decent video capabilities. I also own an A7S, so this isn't a replacement for video use, but I would have no problem using it for supplemental fo... Show More

All that I had hoped for and more!

Dec 15, 2014

I am a semi-pro. I have been using an a700 for years. Great camera, still is! The a77 mark II is a very big improvement on a great old camera. I use my a77 mostly for portrait work and some commercial work too. I could list all the new improvements Sony has made in the a77 mark II, but this has to be brief. I can not honestly find anything I do not like about my a77 mark II. Go to B&H and check out one for your self. I think you will be impressed! For the money, and in its class range I honestly do not think I could have gotten a better camera.

Great Photographic Tool!

Dec 14, 2014

I have been using two Sony A700's for years never upgrading because I really didn't feel the need; not even when the Sony A77 came out. However, the A77II really was a jump forward in technology. I love the 79 Point AF system it has and the features that I did not have like an electronic level and the face feature autofocus. Yes, there's video too, but I'm not into video all that much. Though, it's nice to have. Sensor noise is also great improvement. However, better lenses are always a must anyway.

Top Shooter!

Dec 4, 2014

This is an upgrade to my A77 and I am very happy with the autofocusing and image quality. If you are knocking this camera because it does not have GPS then you didn't do your homework! I am much more inclined to use the WiFi feature as it is handy for sharing pic files with my devices. I will test the low light performance with the 35mm f1.4 soon. Takes amazing photos of my sons' baseball/ pitching and other action photography.

Nice Camera but has no GPS Feature

Dec 2, 2014

I just wanted to mention that I have the first version of the camera and the a77II has been upgraded BUT the very important thing left out for me is the GPS feature. Without it, I won't buy it since I need the GPS location on most of my photos.

Excellent Camera, fast lens

This camera is just excellent and I really like it so much and like this kit lens which is useful for travelling photography. Just one small cons is the neck strap is really poor quality and I couldn't believe that this is SONY made!! But overall I like the camera and yes I would recommend it to a friend

Performance without weatherproof

Nov 26, 2014

I've used this camera for a month and its focusing performance and image quality was brilliant. Everything finished after I took some photos in a cloudy day in October this year (a day without rain but with some increased humidity in the air) at the shore of the sea, when it performed well but when I went back home and tried to turn it on after a few hours it refused to start and a red led was blinking with a sort of a code that repeated periodic... What an upgrade

Nov 24, 2014

The A77 MkII is such a huge upgrade from the MkI. The processor and image sensor for low light is huge! I mostly shoot very low light/ candle light at Pro wrestling events that never has great lighting. The new processor lets me shoot at 3200 ISO at 250/sec with very very little to no noise break through. I also love the amazing moveable spot focus option. This allows me to set a focus group on the fly in the viewfinder as I'm shooting. This is e... Show More

Game changer

Nov 23, 2014

EVF is awesome, you see before hand how the picture will come out. That alone makes you a better photographer. Focus tracking is off the charts (lock-on Af expand flexible spot). You lock that baby on your subject and as long as you hold down the shutter button it will track fast moving subjects all through the 79 points. No other camera on the market has this feature and when you add the face detection wow, a total game changer. 12 fps shutter s... Show More

Happy Shooter!

Nov 9, 2014

I upgraded from the Sony a55, and I am blown away by how sharp and bright my images are especially in low light. I haven't pushed it to it's limits yet but I'm going to. My daughter plays basketball and I am looking forward to capturing lots of action shots in the poorly lit school gym where she plays. I am going to have to get use to the difference in size and weight compared to what I was shooting with. If you haven't tried this camera you should!

Nice camera but there are cons

Oct 23, 2014

Nice camera for the price but there are cons: (1) The battery drains down very fast even with keeping the live view monitor closed and using the view finder and shutting it off between shots, I am only able to get 250 shots before it goes dead. (2) It takes a few seconds to turn back on and makes a lot of quirky noise doing so. (3) This camera has a tendency to over expose at times for no apparent reason. (4) Whites are very easily blown out. (5)... Show More

Great Camera!

I am an amateur photographer and I did a lot of research before purchasing the Sony a77II. However, in the few weeks I have had it, I'm pleased as punch. It has great build quality. It's comfortable to hold and it's worth every penny and then some.At first the menu system was intimidating, but once I started playing around, with the help of the manual and other online tutorials and aids, I could see the intuitiveness and logic of the menu structur... Oct 19, 2014

Good - All the capabilities I need at a great price! - Great image quality and pixel count - Simple to use, both the menu and the dials/buttons - Solid, durable frame, but no too heavy - Swivel/tilt display - Broad ISO range - Love the speedy continuous shooting, made some great shots at sports events and wildlife Meh - AF is usually perfect, but every once in a while it goes searching (could just be me) - The top LCD is fairly useless, would be ... Awesome camera!

Oct 14, 2014

I would like to make a nice review, with highlight's pros and cons, but one, my poor english does not permit it and two, Im just a photo enthusiast, didnt try too many other cameras before. But I will try to give my two cents. I have tried a Nikon 5200 and a 7100 before this, and so the Sony a37, and the EVF got me. I don't know if it happened because I've never took a ton of pictures before, but I only see advantages of EVF over the OVF. The pos... Show More

Sony a77M2

Actually I used to have a Sony a77. The a77M2 have changed a lot. One of the most important changes is the Bionz x processor. It improves the picture quality. I can tell the pictures have richer tones and get brighter than before. Most of the buttons have been redesigned. When I pressed or rotated the buttons, I felt like this was a new camera.

A77II a big improvement over A77

Aug 25, 2014

This upgrade of the A77 addressed most of my issues I had with the original A77. Some of which I did not find troublesome until I got the A99. Most improved is the ISO performance, the buffer size, the Mode dial and Lock Button (like the A99) and more programmable buttons. Of particular use is the in camera focus range limiter which works with any lens. The improved menu is easier to navigate despite having 42 more base options.

Bet APS-C camera on market

Aug 16, 2014

I upgraded to the a77 a year-and-a-half ago and loved it. So, when the a77ii came out, I had to have it. And it is worth the upgrade. Comparing images shot with each using the same lens shows a marked impdrovement in resolution and detail. Plus, much improved high iso capture. And the improved LCD is nice. It is the best APS-C camera on the market.
