Using the Same ECM-55B Mic since 1993 !

Apr 19, 2015

This mic is a real work horse. I have been using the same ECM-55B pair of lave mic's since 1993. You can't go wrong with this Sony Mic ECM-55B. I would recommend this mic to any video professional that want great audio.

workhorse

Have'nt had it for long so can't testify to durability, but sound quality is good. Only negative is that the mic capsule is quite large relative to other manufactures so more noticible in shot. I remember working in a TV studio back in the day and they used these mics for voice and music recording and they were very relaible - I'm hopping this one is too.

25 Years - Still One Of My 'Go-To' Mics

Oct 17, 2012

Over the years I've acquired a small arsenal of microphones from the very expensive (costing over a thousand dollars) to the basic inexpensive models.Years ago while working on broadcast productions, I came across this industry workhorse beauty after hearing the clarity and richness of the broadcast sound in many early productions. When I inquired, the microphone was the Sony ECM-55b. And it was a staple in tv and productions.I own a few of these ... Show More

The best

WE use it for morning news broadcasts. We never have to worry about the battery dying in the middle of a broadcast now. Powerful sound.

Can't Beat a Workhorse....!

Jul 9, 2012

Been using the 2 we have since 1993 and have never had a problem. It has been and still is a reliable workhorse of a mic. The sound is very professional and great for video production on interviews, etc. This is one Sony product that is really worth the money.

Great mic!

Why buy any other lavalier microphone? My old one lasted 25 years. Only criticism: Why doesn't Sony make the insulating wire just a bit heavier gauge? I use this in the field, and would like a little more heavy-dutiness to the cord.

These mics will always perform to the highest expectations. This is my third ECM 55B and they always sound great and have been using them for several years.

I use these mics in deposition/interview situations and they are always reliable, providing a quiet (low noise), quality signal. Would definitely recommend them.

Works great!

Great audio pickup and discrete size make this a versatile performing microphone. I record in an OR every day and this mic stays attached to the microscope; I get nicely balanced audio from the surgeon, patient and equipment sounds in the background.

Good mic for outdoor use

Nov 22, 2010

Great mic for use in outdoor and/or windy situations. By burying the mic under a sweatshirt or jacket, I've gotten good wind-free audio, even when the winds were 35 mph plus. The mic is big, but still really handy in outdoor situations.

Quality Mic

Sep 8, 2010

We use these mics in a TV production studio for interview programs. We prefer them over the ECM44B's since they can use phantom power and not need a battery. The audio is cleaner than ECM-66B's that we sometimes have problems with when they're not pointed correctly. They are constructed with quality, and deliver clean, rich sound (as best a lavalier can). We plan on buying more.

Great mic for the price

Jan 14, 2009

A workhorse. I have used this mic extensively for documentary interviews and find the sound quality to be excellent for the price. I have also used the similar ECM-44b model and feel that this model has superior response to voices, well worth the relatively small step up in price. In addition to interviews, I have also used this mic as a boundary or set mic on short film shoots. Depending on the amount of background noise, this mic works effectiv... Show More

good lav

May 5, 2008

I bought this lav mic because it's the one used by SCRIBE, the community filmmaking organization where I take film classes. So far, so good. My only concern is that the cord is a bit short, wish it were a couple of feet longer.

High Quality & Very Reliable

Apr 10, 2008

I have used this same mic for almost two years at work, and have loved how reliable it has been. Even better is the excellent quality of the sound I got, every single time! That is why I just bought one for my own personal use.
