Awesome imagery for the price

Apr 29, 2019

As a documentary film Grad Student, I find this lens to be the perfect addition for my Sony FS5, it is an F/4 constant aperture cine lens that does not disappoint. In addition to quiet operation, and parfocal attributes for constant focus throughout the zoom range, the crystal clear high-resolution glass is superb. I would recommend this lens to any serious filmmaker that uses Sony E-mount Camcorders or DSLR Cameras.

Awesome Lens for Video

Mar 20, 2019

I purchased this lens to use on a Sony FS 7 camera filming observational documentary and general TV work. The wide end of the lens is a god send after using the 28 - 135mm lens originally supplied with the camera and the zoom range is adequate for most situations. The mechanics of the zoom are fast and smooth plus you have the option to use manual for quick stab zooms. The image quality is really sharp and it is an easy to use lens. The only let down is the F4 maximum aperture. I would recommend it.

Reverse zoom direction function omitted

Feb 7, 2019

Thought I had a defected lens but turns out Sony deleted the reverse zoom rotation direction function. The function switch is still there but does nothing. Just a friendly FYI.

Cant get reverse function to work. Minimum focus distance

Jan 11, 2019

Was excited about this new lens and ability to reverse zoom direction. However, after reading instructions and viewing a demo showing the feature, I have found mine to be defective for this function. All other aspects seem to be in order and the lens is very sharp. Just a little disappointed that I need to exchange for one with this feature in order. Also, I didnt read closely and found it only focuses less than .95m in autofocus mode. Not a huge... Show More

Excellent documentary lens

Nov 12, 2018

This lens has proven to be a great upgrade from the Canon 24-105 w/ Metabones than I used on my FS7 for a few years. Although the 24-105 is a decent all-around lens, the Sony 18-110 has a few major advantages. Specifically, it doesnt change exposure while zooming in or out. You can ride the aperture ring when working in variable light conditions (doc work isnt always pretty!) And most importantly, the range of 18-110mm is sufficient for a vast ... Show More

THE BEST IN ITS CLASS

Dec 24, 2017

I've had this lens for about seven months now and it's the best lens for DSLR / ENG work in this price range. It's a great lens and Sony is really doing a great job with molding this lens to be a all purpose lens.

Improvement over 28-135mm version

Nov 19, 2017

Sharp and color neutral. Much improved over the 28-135 as there is no zoom lag and focus feels direct. I prefer it to the fujinon VX lenses but wish is was 1 stop faster.

Great Improvement over Sony's 28-135

Aug 23, 2017

I'm a Sony FS7 user since the moment the camera came available. The original 28-135 lens was always good for any shot that fit my focal length needs. That meant interviews and anything requiring longer focal lengths. But I was always sad that I could not shoot amazing wide angle views or even good ones. A building, a sunset, even a wide interview, had to settle for an adequate shot with the 28-135. I've just used my new 18-110 on a week long shoo... Show More

Nice B-roll Lense

Jun 19, 2017

I purchased this lease to replace my Sony 28-135 kit lens that came with my FS7. This lens is much better to shoot b-roll with. The 28mm just wasn't wide enough to be effective and the fly by wire zoom drove me nuts. If this lens was a f/2.8 I would have given it 5 stars.

Good lens for documentary work

Jun 8, 2017

I bought this lens to replace the Sony 28-135 for use on my FS7. Because this lens is designed for the super 35 format and because it is 18mm at the wide end it is good for hand held use and yet it still has good reach at the long end. The lens is sharp and neutral in it's color rendition. When used with the FS7 the autofocus is surprisingly subtle and accurate. But having the option of repeatable manual focus is important in my work. The built i... Show More

My Go-To Lens for Most Projects

May 24, 2017

We rented this lens for our FS5 recently, and decided to keep it after testing it for a week. The image quality is actually superior to our Rokinon Cine DS primes, with less chromatic aberration. Image stabilization is a wonderful thing to have when filming events, and I feel that the zoom range offered meets my needs - I'm able to get close framing of a subject on the stage of our auditorium from the control room in the back of the room, and it'... Great doc lens for the price

May 9, 2017

This lens solves all the problems that came with the 28-135, namely the focal range is much better for doc work and the zoom mechanism has been fixed. Still a bit slow at f4, but hard to beat for the price.

My perfect option between DSLR-lens and expensive ENG-lens

Mar 19, 2017

I got this through a bundle deal with the FS7mkii. I was quite unsure about the whole thing, I have been hands on with the 28-160mm and it was straight out useless for my needs. Just a bit too narrow at the wide end, but serious lag in the fly-by-wire manual zoom was the biggest issue. To my great relief the manual zoom on this lens actually IS manual. I'm spoiled with the Canon Cineservo 17-120mm and Fujinon 19-90mm, but I needed this kit to pac... Show More

IT'S A KEEPER!!!

Mar 15, 2017

I bought this lens not really knowing if I was going to keep it or not. It was depending on how it performedwith my A7r2 and FS7. I come from a Stills lens background, not Cine but I wanted something that could give me an all around look and serve numerouspurposes, while I was shooting different events. To be honest I'mnot sure if I would call this lens a cine lens, more like a hybrid lens, between Broadcast and the ability to be a Cine Lens. Thi... Show More

Awesome Video Lens for e mount cameras!

Mar 13, 2017

I will be using this lens for wedding videos. I haven't had a chance to really use it, but I took some still shots with it and they were as good as my G lenses designed for still shots. A little large for a Sony a7RII but functionally offers many fratures for quality video work. Solid, smooth and great manual control. Anxious for my first video project.

Long waited, almost good but, unfortunately, not there yet..

Mar 7, 2017

I purchased Sony 18-110 as soon as it became available and started using right away. Despite some annoying details, still convinced that this is the lens I need. I will keep it and will get used to it. But why 3.5 out of 5? What kind of details? Sony, lets be honest: this is NOT fully responsive zoom as you have been advertising in one of your Youtube videos. Servo-zoom is very comparable to its predecessor 28-135. Meaning - sloppy! When using se... Show More

Perfect doco lens for my FS7

Mar 2, 2017

I have the FE PZ 28-135mm F4 G OSS lens which being 35mm full frame format means it actually has a focal length of 42-202mm on my FS7 since my FS7 is Super 35 (APS-C) format and the lens gets cropped. I found this lens useful for longer lens applications but too long for probably 80% of what I generally shoot. I shoot a lot of reality TV, observational documentary, etc. The 18-110mm F/4 G Oss Lens covers the most used focal range for this kind of... Show More
