My first micro 4/3 camera. Great so far!

Aug 8, 2017

I did a bit of research before deciding on the GX85. I looked at the Sony A6300, Panasonic LX10/LX100 and for the money the GX85 was the winner. I got it on salel with the kit lens for $500! The pictures in daylight and night with the kit lens have been good to great. The 4K photo is very cool. No 4k video yet. You cant go wrong with this camera. Also the lenses are much cheaper than the Sony lenses.

Oner of the camera systems for us

May 30, 2017

4/3rds is working out well for us. Have Nikon and Sony FF which are great but the Lumix features and lenses being more compact and less expensive have become the equipment of choice for jobsite and brochure pictures. The GX85 is a versatile camera. the lenses could be a bit faster but are more than adequate for most of our work, and the quality of both the camera and the cost overall acquisition cost are relatively low which allows us to purchase additional equipment and remain within budget. B&H has become our preferred supplier and recommend them without any reservations.

Great little camera

May 20, 2017

I bought this as a smaller, lighter alternative to my DSLR for still photography. I tried a variety of micro 4/3rds and APS mirrorless cameras, including Olympus EM10 ii, Panasonic G7, Canon M5, and Fuji XT20. All the cameras had their pros and cons, but for me, the Panasonic GX85 offered the maximum in terms of compact size and performance. Great image quality, poor ergonomics

Apr 20, 2017

I own this camera for about 2 weeks. I have and use several Nikon cameras including D810, D7000, and D5300. So I can compare. I like the camera so far. The image quality is really good. There is one real problem (for me): the layout of controls. The camera is not as light-weight as many cheap point-and-shoot. To handle it one has to use not just thumb but the palm (as you do with SLRs). All controls are on the right side and get pushed with your palm as you hold it firmly. It gets really annoying. If you can learn to hold it without pushing multiple buttons then it is a great small camera. :-)

Nice pocket camera

Apr 16, 2017

I bought the GX85 body from B&H and the 30mm prime. Had the 14-140 zoom. I believe this is the perfect lens combo for 99% of all shooting scenarios. Optical stabilization works well. My first touch focus and my first M43. To be honest, the auto focus is so good it renders the touch focus almost unnecessary. The M43 lenses are so light and compact yet generate top notch results. The only somewhat negative aspect of the GX85 oddly enough is the mai... Show More

Fantastic little camera

Apr 6, 2017

I really love this little camera, especially for the price! It looks a bit like a point and shoot, but don't let looks fool you! I got this with the kit lens (but only because they didn't have the black silver version without lens) and I was actually pleasantly surprised by the quality of the kit lens as well. The lens does not do super well in low light/ high ISO situations, but other than that it is surprisingly sharp for what it is. This camer... Show More

Small yet Powerful

Apr 4, 2017

Love everything about this camera. From a traditional DSLR user I was not expecting to like this so much, the hardest thing to get used to is the digital viewfinder, but after some use I realize it is more useful. This camera packs a punch and is versatile as well. A few adapters and I'm using lenses from my old 35mm cameras that haven't seen use in years. Overall great experience

Nice upgrade to my GH1

Apr 2, 2017

Compared to GH1, the GX-85 is very fast performance, and has more features. My favorites are the WiFi connectivity, and the 4K photo modes. A big factor I considered is that I get to reuse my older Panasonic Lenses and Flash with this new camera.

Love it, but still lots to learn

Mar 20, 2017

I've had it a week or so and used it at a few venues. It is beautiful. There are a lot of buttons and it is taking a while to get used to. I hit something during a photography event I was doing and could not stop to figure it out, so that messed up a few images (focus video or something like that) So in time I'm going to be very comfortable with this, but it is a bit to get used to. But it is a beautiful sturdy product that I'm otherwise loving.

worth every penny

Feb 16, 2017

Phenomenal camera if you want an all-around shooter with amazing video. People complain about the lack of a mic in, but really this thing records audio better than any device I have ever owned, including my 150$ Panasonic voice recorder. The video is brilliant, and the 4k allows almost any frame to be used as a still shot. Love it! Only thing I wish it had was a longer life battery option, or at least to be able to run off the USB, not just charge off it while its off.

Fantastic camera!

Feb 4, 2017

Got this camera, along with the 12-35 f2.8 lens, just before a trip to Vancouver, BC, I had a little time to review the manual. There's a bit of a learning curve when transitioning from a Nikon D600 but once I figured it out I was extremely impressed with the sharpness of the images. The lens is fixed at 2.8, which takes a little getting used to. I really appreciate the responsiveness of the camera, the sharpness of the images. I still love my D600, but man, this is a pretty impressive camera!

Excellent most underrated Camera

Jan 27, 2017

Most underrated and forgotten excellent camera. Sharp, sharp sensor (one of Sony's sharpest sensors). Everything I need. It's like having a GH4 in addition to the in-body stabilizer. What's bad about it? After all those years with BHphoto, no problems, no worries, pro seller and professional people but but...I was supposed to receive a free 45-150mm lens but instead a free coffee mug cup! Be warn, scam from the warehouse folks! Why the 4 stars?

I upgraded from a G7 (well, more a sidegrade) so I could have something smaller that I would be more likely to take with me wherever I go. The internal IBIS is quite good as well, images in low light are much easier when handheld.

A LOVE-HATE RELATIONSHIP

Jan 2, 2017

I'm a retired professional photographer/videographer, now contending with onset arthritis so I had to let go of my full size, heavy-as-heck DSLRs. Crossing over to the smaller micro four thirds format, I first tried the GH2 and then moved up to the GX8 some six months ago. Then the GX85 came out at $100 less than MSRP, bundled with two lenses and a $150 B&H Gift Card! Interesting though the bundle was, I was attracted to the GX85 mainly because I... Show More

Great all round performer

Dec 22, 2016

I've been using a Lumix GM1 for some time now, it's size and performance make it a great take anywhere camera, however, it does lack a few things to allow for it's small size....a viewfinder for bright conditions, a tilting screen and hot shoe for external flash. The GX85 solves these issues albeit in a slightly larger and heavier package but not so much you don't take the camera with you. Great travel and everyday camera.

5 stars with a better lens.

Dec 17, 2016

I'm a Canon DSLR (7D and 6D) user and wanted something more compact with 4k. I was hesitant because of the lack of Cinelike D and V, or vLog, but the heavy customization this camera allows almost fully compensates - I can easily get a picture style as flat as the Cinelike profiles (even flatter than the Technicolor Cineform profile in the Canon cameras). The 12-32 is very compact, but the optics are so-so and can't fully take advantage of the cam... Show More

Buy It!

Dec 13, 2016

As many online reviews have implied, this is a great camera. Within a few days of receiving it, I was doing night photography in South Beach, handheld at 1600 ISO, with the included lens. While not the ideal situation to test this type of setup, the results were impressive. The only thing lacking is weather sealing, for which I would have gladly paid more.

Very good little camera

Dec 12, 2016

I purchased the GX85 with 12-32mm lens to be part of a take (almost) everywhere kit, along with the tiny Panasonic 35-100mm f/4-5.6, and 20mm f/1.7. It's considerably less bulk and weight than my usual kit which is an E-M5ii and Panasonic 12-35 and 35-100 f/2.8 lenses, along with the PanaLeica 25mm f/1.4. The EVF is a step down from the E-M5 ii, but still very useable for me. For such a small camera, the controls seem well placed. The image quality from the sensor and diminutive lenses is very good.
