I wanted to LOVE this camera
I really wanted to love this camera. And to a great extent I do. I will even go so far as to say I will miss it, but I have to let it go. Why? One reason and one reason only - the picture quality. It is way short of awful, but at times I found it virtually unusable. Low light, except IR, is very poor. And I found dark areas in otherwise well lit situations got real noisy. Its all about the noise in this camera. If you shoot only very well lit sce... Show More

HC-X1000 A camera I mostly love
Panasonic HC-X1000I've had been waiting for someone to post some real run and gun type shots so I could decide if I wanted to get this camera or not. It seemed to have all the functions I was looking for. So, I finally bought the darn thing so I could try it out. I have been testing it out now for two weeks and used it on a couple of jobs. I would say it's 'a camera I love and hate'. Things I don't like: - It's either/or for the LCD and the EVF(e... Show More

Easily perfectible (next firmware maybe)
I bought the HC-X1000 to replace a SONY HVR-Z5 (HDV format). Small sensors is fine for me because I don't need the short deep of field that comes with larger CMOS. The X1000 is somehow the Z5 successor : it is designed for run & gun use, it is lightweight to handle over heads, it offers a 20x zoom with a VERY good stabilisation, autofocus is even faster, has better balance in hands thanks to the hand grip located near the lenses... Panasonic HC-X1000 4K - Does the Job
This camera was recently purchased about a month ago. We have taken it on two shoot so far and it has done pretty good for a camera at it's price point. I've have not had the chance to test it in low light or extreme conditions yet but in a studio environment the quality is good. In saying that it's no Red camera, but on a budget it gets the job done. The camera is pretty easy to use and learn. The 20x zoom is smooth. The camera is a little small... Show More

What's not to like
Just received ours as a replacement for one of the orignal Sony EX1s. Little hard to get used to the plastic body, which will require a bit more care (we film volcanic eruptions). Did one helicopter flight in the rain and the downconverted 4K seems comparable to the EX1. OIS worked pretty well on our handheld gyro rig. This camera definitely doesn't have the low light latitude of the EX1, but its ok for us as we do most everything outside during ... Show More

not really that great
bought this to replace an aging EX-1R, and i was hoping to avoid having to spend the $ to buy a pxw-x200. that being said, this review might biased because i was coming from a more professional camera, but i'll share my experience regardless.this camera appealed to me because of it's cheap, non-proprietary media, the 4K recording (including slo-mo), fantastic zoom range, and small, convenient form factor. i love the fact that it has 3 proper ring... Incredibly Disappointing
It's always a great idea to rent a camera before you buy it, and wow am I glad I did. I own a small professional video and media company and we used this camera to film outside, as most of our clients are in the hunting industry. I genuinely hate being negative, and hate giving poor reviews, but I read reviews myself constantly, and you deserve to know. I had done quite a bit of research on this camera to possibly look into purchasing one, yet I ... Show More

Big step up from Canon XL 1s
I have been recording dance performances to document choreography, lighting and set design for as long as I can remember. Took a break, and am now starting up again. The Canon XL 1s , great camera for its time but I just could not seem to focus it any at all - could it be my 63 year old eyes!!. With the Panasonic, I just shot rehearsals and a show this last weekend and I am quite please with the results. I shot the first performance in HD and the... Show More

Beautiful Camcorder.
I've been a professional photographer for the past 27 years and thought I'd expand my horizons a bit and stay current with the 'hybrid' nature of the industry with regard to offering both still and videography services. I own a Canon 7D and realized quite quickly that its use as a video camera is limited by the length of time it can operate continuously - maybe 30 mins - before the sensor overheats and the camera shuts down. Not surprisingly beca... Show More

I Am No Professional
This camera is a step up for me from my Canon HF G30 so its a huge learning curve for me. I take mostly aviation videos and put them up on YouTube. This camera is definitely heavier than the Canon but thats not a bad thing either. I feel its more steady on the Magnus VT-4000 that I use it with. The option buttons are many and I probably will eventually settle on just a few that work best for my specific need. The 4K shot outdoors in bright sunlig... Show More

Impressive - Great Camera for the Price!
I'm a professional corporate and sports videographer for the past 20 years. I've been playing around with the device and in a short time I was off filming and taking pictures. Needless to say the touch screen panel and ability to scroll through the menus makes this a user friendly camera. I've been using Sony products for the past 18 years and thought to take a chance on Panasonic's 4K camera due to so so reviews on Sony's 4K camera as well as th... Show More

Great camera, finicky settings
I pretty much love this camera. It is absolutely great for shooting in low-light scenarios (horror films, ha), though the image becomes a little grainy and hard to adjust when you're running with the wide-open iris and full gain, so I suggest using a small light set-up if you can. The customization options are great, but holy cow is there quite a bit to keep track of in order to get the best picture out of this thing. One reviewer here, named JP,... Show More

Unusable footage indoors
I am a sports and wedding videographer and have to say this camera is junk for any shots taken indoors unless you have a pro lighting setup. After 5 months of using this camcorder on weddings (we now use it as a stationery camera as backup, so a $3k backup in case something fails). The footage outputs great for the sports jobs I do because they are shot during the day in sunlight. I can never give my clients the footage from this camera because o... Show More

Great Package... Failed to deliver
I'll keep it short and keep it to the important stuff. We do a lot of filming across the nation and saw this as a portable solution that seemed to have everything we needed Plus a light compact size to lighten the load on the road. I'm not sure if it's the optics or the sensor, but on a side by side comparison with the GH4 it was just simply disappointing. After close analysis with identical footage, I estimate that this camera has about 20% less... Show More

Wonderful camera, for what it is.
I've only used this camera for a couple of weeks, but I am 100% satisfied with its performance. With that said, if you already in the 4k spectrum this camera does NOT have the sharpest image quality in the price range. It is out preformed by the GH4 in several ways. However if you need a run & gun, fire & forget, xlr audio, easy to use camera this is the bee's knees. Many reviewers have complained about low light performance, I however think it w... Show More

Great camera for small size and long zoom
Small camera size and light weight are a real plus in a 4k camera that records in 60p. Other manufacturers are still trying to catch up. Downsides: 1) At max zoom (20X) you need to shoot at f4.8. One stop either side and you loose about 20% resolution. At moderate zoom levels the resolution is good over a wide range. 2) in the 2x or zoom modes you really only get the equivalent of 30X zoom at half the FOV. So lower resolution, but higher magnifi... Poor IQ
The image quality is poor. now matter what I do the images in BOTH 1080p and 4K are soft AND noisy. The files are upgradeable in Premiere or you get even more noise. It might have a Leica lens but the sensor can't use it! Also the manuals(or lack there of) SUCK. I called Panasonic and they were even less help. The tech didn't have access to a test unit and no engineer is available to help. It was a waste of my time. I have a NX1 and it has FAR su... Show More

Noisy image when recording indoor.
Great camera with many features and ability record in 4k and output hd through HDMI. But even with such down scaling from 4k to HD video quality is just unsatisfying . Tested camera at our church and our church has plenty of light but image was just very dark and noisy in gray and in darker colors. Adding any gain to make image bit lighter just made image even more noisy, even when setting shutter speed to 30. And with such shutter speed any moti... Show More

Great in bright or studio light, terrible in less light
I purchased this camera to produce full HD and experiment with 4K video. Half of my work is at conferences in which lighting is generally ballroom level which made the images shot with the HC-X1000 unusable. While I loved the controls and placement, it simply was not able to handle less than perfect lighting conditions with the small sensor. Images shot outdoors during the day were beautiful but in my line of business perfect lighting is not alwa... Show More

Great Little Camera
Great little camera but it has its limitations. First thing, this camera is definitely not a low light camera. Once in low light situations it will show its flaws, in Noise, Noise, Noise. If the scene is lit properly and the camera manually set, then it will perform OK. Second, during day light shoots the X1000 definitely shows its great picture quality. If you are a AUTO type of shooter. This camera is definitely not for you unless you want some serious noise in your footage. I have used this camera for run and gun documentary work and it performs well, also the battery last quite a while.

I love it
I read the writings that people write. I have also bought the camera for more than a year. His picture is very good outside and inside. Even Broadcast! Unfortunately I see that some people can not set it up and say it sucks the camera! Do not use this camera with manual adjustment. Then you get a wonderful picture because you can put everything on it !! Then the black will not get a noisy and beautiful picture even in indoors! This is a professional camera. I'm saying I'm working with a large AVCIntra camera and I know what else I'm talking about

Love this camera!
This camera has performed very well for us! I had done a lot of research on several different sites. I was a little worried when I saw a few lower reviews on this site however, I gave the camera a try. It has performed well in many different settings for us. We do a lot of surgery/medical shoots so I guess lighting may not be much of an issue for us. The camera does extremely well in this environment and following the procedures as well as zooming in/out at the appropriate moments is effortless. I am extremely happy with this purchase!

Best Camcorder I have ever owned
All I have to say is wow! I only have the cam for a week now but I can easily say that this is the best camera I've ever used! It has unbelievable video quality and the settings make it even more amazing. It is a pleasure to work with! The only downfall is the fact that it's made out of plastic instead of magnesium alloy but I guess it cuts down on the cost, but look at it from the bright side... it makes the camera lighter! I will update this review if ever in the future I would feel different about it. Until then wow!
