GREAT LENS - CONFIRMED
I bought the M. Zuiko f/2.8 PRO lens for my new Olympus OMD e-M1 camera and couldn't be more impressed with it. In my Digital Photography class, the instructor is also impressed, as are the other students. It's not just good - it's GREAT. Easy to use, superb quality, a fine long-lasting investment at a very decent price. Getting kudos already about my photos, which are portrait, travel, & landscape. Am doing my own work now for marketing collater... Show More

Great all-around lens
Versatile and well built - if you only have one lens for your micro four thirds camera this is a good lens for that purpose. It is a bit heavier than I expected but has a nice focal length range and takes sharp images. The f2.8 combined with micro four thirds' great ISO response makes this a great low light choice for indoor photography.

Sharp As A Tac
The lens feels substantial and well built. Lightening fast focus on the OM-D E-M1. Sharp focus and fast enough at a consistent 2.8 aperture. It's a beautiful lens. Was well worth the wait for backorder to be filled! With this lens attached to the E-M1 my gear is now weather resistant. It's a snug fitting lens and you can feel that when you mount it to the camera but that's important in order for it to be weather tight. MUCH lighter than a Nikon 24 - 70mm lens.

Wonderful lens
The lens is technically excellent, well built, super useful. It stays on my E-M1 90% of the time (when I don't need long tele, specific macro, or a much brighter lens). I mostly use it in the 12-25mm range but sometimes the extra reach to 40mm is useful. I've had it out in a few snowstorms with no issue. Not sure what else to say. It's an excellent zoom lens.

Awesome, versatile lens
I bought this for use with my Blackmagic Pocket camera. It looks beautiful, and captures beautiful images. Extremely solid and well built. The only thing I wish it had is image stabilization. But if you're shooting tripod, or have a decent handheld rig, it's not a problem in the slightest.

amazing
little heavy, but optically awesome! similar in quality to my nikkor 24-70 (which is pretty unbelievable)

A serious lens
I have worked out this lens since I got it. I do a lot of landscape work, and have also tested it out as a portrait lens at the 40mm end. It performs well across the range of focal lengths. Crisp and clear for landscape, but really nice for portraits too. Gets that bokeh. This is a serious, fast, versatile lens which focuses fast. My only complaint is the size/weight for 4/3. But still, I use it about half the time was my walking around lens. Would give it 4.5 for that. But as a zoom it is near perfect. So 5.

Solid Performer, won't disappoint
Yes, Its heavy Yes, it's solid, but thats what a pro level lens should be. Great range, fast focus, weather proof, 24-80mm equivalent Usually I'm a Prime guy, but this lens has pretty much lived on my EM-1 from the day I picked it up. If you run M 4/3, this 12-40mm lens, the Olympus 17mm f/1.8, and the Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 are the only lenses you'll need. But at the very least, this should be in your bag, if you're running a Micro 4/3's system.

Sharp Lens
This lens has some heft to it and feels solid. It is sharp and fast. When in manual focus the lens actually has hard stops on the ends as oppose to focus by wire. Did I mention its weatherproof too? making this a great combo with the em1. Highly recommended

Fine lens
Great lens; sharp, beautifully finished, very close focusing and silky smooth. The pull back electronic/manual focus clutch is pure genius. And it even includes a hood, center pinch cap and pouch. That is the way it should be for all lenses Olympus. A bit large but considering it is f2.8 throughout, not bad. My finest lens and used for 90% of my photos.

Fantastic Lens with Great Range
I really like using primes. In fact, this is the only zoom I own. It lives on my E-M1 because if I need to get a quick shot, I have the most options quickly. I previously owned the kit lens from the E-M5, the 12-50mm, so when I took this lens out of the box the first thing I noticed is that this lens is a beast. It's much larger than the kit lens, it's also bigger than the 75mm prime. It's not so big that it's uncomfortable, it's just one thing I didn't know while considering the lens. Still well worth it.

Impressive quality and features
I'm primarily a nature photographer that has been shooting since 1975 and recently upgraded all of me equipment from DSLR to M4/3 format.I was looking for a wide lens to be comparable to the 10mm I used with my Canon DSLR but no lens in the M4/3 seemed to come close so I chose the 12-40mm F2.8 Pro. While the lens is not as wide as I had hoped (24mm DSLR equivelant) I couldn't be happier with the performance of this lens.Auto focus is lightning fa... Show More

Terrific Lens
I recently purchased the Olympus OM-D EM-1 and awaited the 12-40 lens with great anticipation. I suffered a bit of foreboding about spending nearly $1000 on a lens sight unseen and untested but the lens has more than lived up to expectations. Clear, sharp, excellent color rendition. Smooth zoom, quick focusing. No lens creep. No regrets - a terrific lens (and weather proof to boot).

A truly great lens
I had pre-ordered this lens, so I ended getting it in October 2013. I have now had ample opportunities to use it. My biggest surprise is how steady it is. I have been able to take shots at 1/15 and ISO 400 that are very sharp at 100%. Incredible. I was afraid this lens was going to be heavy for the OMD, but it very nicely matched. I have no trouble hand holding and zooming. The overall image quality is not discernibly less than the 75mm, at least... Show More

Crisp, Fast, Little Distortion
I've just done some existing light group portraits and a little scenery, but I already love the lens. On my Olympus OMD EM-1 it focuses lightening fast. There is no discernible light fall-off at the corners. The images are tack sharp. The is ever so slight barrel distortion at 12mm and none at 40mm. Buy this lens!

Best general-purpose m4/3 zoom
m4/3 has lacked for a great walk-around zoom until now. Like the older 4/3 12-60/2.8-4.0, the m4/3 12-40/2.8 is sharp at all apertures (very sharp from 12 to 25mm, a bit less so further out), offers great wide-angle and decent telephoto range, and focuses quite close. And unlike the 12-60, focusing on m4/3 bodies is fast and accurate. Range (5x would be ideal) and sharpness on the long end are about that only things that could be improved.

Excellent short zoom
I was very glad to finally receive this lens. It has a great mechanical feel. I'm so pleased that it has a metal body and is weather sealed. Autofocus is fast and accurate. m4/3 lenses are designed to be small, so this lens is one of the larger and heavier ones in the group. Compared to a larger format 24-70mm type lens, it's very light and small. I like the manual focus clutch capability that this lens offers. Since I switched to m4/3 format, most of my lenses are primes. This lens is a good addition with my fixed focal length lenses. It's a great all purpose lens.

Great lens
I love this lens, especially the sliding focus ring that let's you go from af to MFN in an instant. Plus it has a programmable function that you can assign almost any camera function. All without taking your eye away from the viewfinder. Plus super iq. Love it!!

Highly recommended Top Quality Performer
Great optics, well balanced and a very useful zoom range make this a highly desirable walk around lens. The quality of manufacture is top notch, the balance mounted on an OMD E M1 is fantastic and it is also supplied with a lens hood which is very uncommon for Olympus lenses. I hope Olympus add additional lenses in the Pro Series.

M. Zuiko ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO
Bought this lens to go with my new EM1 and it's very well fit together. The build quality of this lens is solid and exquisite. Overall image quality of the 12-40mm f2.8 is amongst the best amongst Micro Four Thirds lenses. Highly recommended.

Olympus releases a gem
In reality, imagine having the equivalent of the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L at basically less than half the price. That's where the MFT format's latest pro lens from Olympus leads us. Top notch build quality, tack sharp wide open, beautiful color rendition. Not to mention being weather resistant, along with easy clutch mechanism to switch from AF/MF. Having been a long time user of both Canon and Nikon, I've switched to the OM-D E-M1 with this glass and haven't looked back. Not cheap, but taken in perspective to pro glass prices from the big two, it's a bargain. Highly recommended.

NOW it's like my DSLR!
I am looking to replace my D600 with the OMD-EM5 and shooting with the kit lens left a lot to be desired. But once this lens was mounted, the entire feel, shooting experience, and most importantly, image quality convinced me that this can be my go-to camera. Well built, solid, smooth- gorgeous lens.

Absolutely Awesome Lens
I shoot lots of events, so for years my normal lens has been the 24-70 or 24-105 focal length. I now shoot micro-4/3 and this lens is my new normal. It is smooth, sharp and fast-focusing.
