So much better
after years of shuffling different wires around I decided to make things easy and get the Smart controller. Just grab the drone and controller and go fly using a great screen.

Spendy but worth it for me - zero problems or hassles...
I've had the original with phones and an iPad and while it was ok, it always took time to setup, make sure all devices were charged, set phone to not get interrupted during flight, etc... With this, I pull the Mavic 2 out and setup, pull this out, power both up and fire up the app on the controller and I'm ready to go. A work in progress
The brighter screen is nice but no larger than iPhone 7 plus. Software/app wise there is less feature wise than offered on the iOS platform. Support for an additional HDMI monitor is nice.

Works as advertised!
Yes! Makes life easier than hooking up via conventional means (the phone). I'm in the air quicker... the screen is bright, I'm happy! I am most excited to hook up the HDMI as that was a big factor in the purchase decision. Have not tried it yet....

NOT Ready for prime time
I was so impressed how easy it was to connect. On my second start up it froze and wouldnt even shut off. Asking me to use the Apple terminal is not what any company should be asking a user to do. After looking around, I was clearly not the only one with this problem. Not impressed at all.

Smart is best
The Smart Controller for the Mavic 2 Pro is just that and more. Easy to use, easy to master. Screen display is bright even here in the blistering sun of the Mojave Desert. I highly recommend this toy to anyone who is serious about their drone!

Alot left to be desired
okay first If I had to make a decision on purchasing a new drone with the standard controller or the smart controller I would probably still choose the smart controller. The screen is great and it just works with DJI Go. Super simple and quick to get in the air. Having a beefer controller feels better in your and and no cables to come lose. NO compatible mapping/3D modeling apps
First, this controller has potential to be great and hopefully will be eventually. But this review is primarily to let others know that as of June 2019 there are NO apps for mapping or 3D modeling that will work on the Smart Controller. Even DJI's software, DJI GS Pro will not work with the Smart Controller! great controller
I fly the Mavic 2 pro and zoom. This controller is great because its fast connecting to the drone and its fits my hands with comfort. The downside is its a pain to load apps on the android system.

So much difference
I have a Phantom 4 Pro Plus with the built in screen. When I flew the Mavic 2 Zoom with my cell phone I was very disappointed in that I couldnt see the screen well. Therefore, didnt enjoy flying the Mavic unless I used the DJI goggles. The Smart controller has the same Crystal Sky screen as the Phantom and it makes so much difference with enjoying the Mavic even in bright sunlight.

Excellent Counterpart to the Mavic 2 Pro
I pre-ordered this controller the week it was announced, and was very happy to finally receive it. So far it meets and exceeds all my expectations. The large, bright screen is perfect for sunny days and the ergonomic design makes it especially easy to use. Its a product that just makes sense and IMHO was worth the cost.

Dead simple, with extra advantages
You turn it on, tap the screen a couple times, and youre flying. The screen is bright and clear and the grip is much more comfortable than the original controller. What I really like is the ability to run an external monitor for other people to watch while I fly, and the ability to charge it continuously while you use it via the USB-C port

Perfect
This is such a huge step up from the original controller. The display is wonderfully bright. The size of the controller is perfect. The size of the display is just right. I will never go back to the original controller unless this one has a hiccup. Very happy with it.

Fantastic
I have a Phantom 4 Pro Plus and love the built in screen. Using a bright screen cell phone with my Mavic 2 Zoom is simply unsatisfactory in comparison. The Smart Controller uses the same Crystal Sky screen as the Phantom. The difference between a cell phone screen and the Crystal Sky is fantastic. Now I can enjoy flying my Mavic. Also, it eliminates one device that must be charged.
