Great shotgun microphone. Clean sound at an affordable price. I've shot two projects on it so far and I am very happy with it. I used this for film projects not music so I can only speak on dialogue recording right now. The low cut filter worked great and helped reduce unwanted sound before post production. The review posted on 5/19/2015 mentions a hiss when plugged into a dslr. That hiss is due to the camera's weak pre amp. It's not a fault of the mic. Spend a few bucks and get a decent preamp. You won't find a dslrs with built in preamps good enough to handle a quality mic. The primary function of a dslr is photography and that's where manufacturers spend their dollars, not on sound recording. ... More

I had an inexpensive Audio-Technica semi-pro shotgun mic for several years and really loved it. Then at a recent shoot where the sound was critical, I noticed that this A-T mic had gotten hissy. One soft-speaking person's voice got buried in the hiss, and that was a problem. It was time for a new, better shotgun mic. After lots of research, I settled on the Azden SGM-250 and it has not disappointed. The SGM-250, which will operate either from phantom power or an internal AA battery, is nicely built, lightweight and produces clear, crisp sound that's well separated from the background. I realize that my old A-T mic has more hiss now than it used to, but the Azden SGM-250 is MUCH quieter. (Of course, the Azden mic is also more than three times as expensive at the old Audio-Technica.) I recently used the Azden SGM-250 plugged into a Panasonic GH3 camera to shoot several short videos at Government Video Expo 2017 in Washington, DC. The SGM-250 worked perfectly and made excellent audio. Since the Panasonic GH3 has a 3.5mm input and the Azden SGM-250 has a balanced XLR output, I got a transformer impedence-matching cable to connect the mic to the camera. That worked great and I got very good sound. In the photo, I'm interviewing an attendee at GV Expo 2017 -- this interview ended up in a short video about the show's attendees, which you can see here: https://youtu.be/vcYVWCU8Q5o. All the interviews in the video used the Azden SGM-250, with the 80Hz rolloff switched on. I recommend the Azden SGM-250 as a well-built, reasonably priced shotgun mic. The SGM-250 is a mic that has a pretty great range for capturing dialogue and foley sounds for audio capture. The fact that you can power it off of Phantom (48v) or battery makes it a bit more versatile then mics that rely only on Phatnom power. The mic comes with a camera mountable shock mount as well as a foam windscreen. I suggest checking out a deadcat windscreen as an add-on to further reduce wind. Finally the mic has a high-pass filter to minimize the amount of post work that you will need to do. Overall, I'd recommend.

It was a toss-up between this and the Sennheiser MKE600. My uses: strictly on-camera nats/sots mic.I only use Lavs (countryman b3) for interviews. My camera is NOT professional and does not have phantom power. Likes: - 250 had consistent sound between battery/phantom, sennheiser lost a little bass on battery not using phantom - 1/2 shorter - super minimal shockmount Cons: - in the pro world it's sound devices and sennheiser so there is that My first azden experience was a SGM 1x that only had 80-18,000 response, but for voice it was my favorite starter mic and did not have to do any de-esser. I never even knew what de-essing was until experiencing a full range 20-20k mic. ... More

I video production for a living and I need an additional good affordable boom mic. After I read the reviews I decided to give the SGM-250 from Azden a go. I used it on two productions and it worked great.

This has been the best shotgun mic I have used thus far. I have used several ranging from $50 - $250. I used this particular mic outside with the foam windscreen that came with it. The sound of my talent came out clean and blocked a lot of distracting noises. I still had other noises bleed through onto the audio track, like cars 15 - 25 feet away, but they were not overpowering or distracting. The audio was clean. I was recording directly to a Zoom H4n Pro.

Needed a mic for short videos of actors for their demo reels. Tried basic mics but to have them out of frame they needed to be three feet from the actor and at that distance the sound was poor. Then tried lavaliere mics, but only the very high end (expensive) mics picked up the vocal range needed. Went to B&H and tried-out some shotgun mics in their soundproof mic room. With the help of a very knowledgeable salesperson I picked the Azden. The actors and their agents are happy with the sound, and the price didn't break the bank. Very satisfied. ... More

I've had this mic for a year now, and use it for producing my YT channel. It's an amazing mic not only for the money, but just an amazing mic period. I even did an episode called "Audio Impossible", that illustrated how even in my somewhat noisy environment I was able to isolate my vocals with the help of this awesome mic.

I did a lot of reasearch before I purchased this mic. Once I got it, I plugged it into my Scarlet 2i2. It produced a wonderfully clean and crisp sound. The ability to run off of phantom power or battery is perfect!

The product is awesome, but B&H doesn't tell you the shock mount female connector size, I bought with an agent a shotgun arm (K-Tek KE-144CC Avalon Series Aluminum Boompole) and the screw was wider then shock mount connector, make sure you buy an adopter that fits before purchasing your order.

Excellent audio with a camcorder. But when used with my Canon 70D DSLR directly plugged in the camera, there is a constant hiss. My tests showed that you obtain a much better audio with a Juicelink or Beachtech interface between the camera and the mic.
