If your not a full time hi-res photo editor
I am not using this computer to edit 4k footage on the regular. So I do not care much about over heating, thermal throttling or all the other things you hear about on YouTube. I use this laptop primarily to edit photos in light room and for research/school work as a grad student. I should note that for those two exact things this computer is overkill. Beautiful Well-designed machine with one minor issue
I recently replaced my Mid-2012 15 Non-retina 2.6-Ghz MBP with this model about 2 weeks. Here are my thoughts: 1. This is a beautiful and well-designed machine. Innovation is gone
For all the latest tech hardware install on this machine, it seems like common sense is not one of them. You will be suprised to find out that Startup/Shutdown times on average is 40sec. 40sec up and 40sec down. My MacBook Pro 2018 for somereason takes about 1:40 on startup and about 40 sec to shutdown. A Terrible Computer for Actual Work
I bought this computer because my 2011 MacBook Pro 17 inch died. The only good thing about it is that it is very fast, but as a practical matter only slightly faster than my 2011 computer with an SSD installed. I purchased the MacBook Pro (Mid 2028) just after Christmas, so as of this review I havent had it all that long. The good news is that I was able pretty much without problem to transfer my data from my old MacBook Pro (Late 2013) to the new one using Time Machine--i had to purchase a dongle to attach to my TM hard drive to the new laptop. Objectively the latest MacBook Pro is a fantastic laptop. Im surprised how much I like the butterfly keyboard, giant touch pad, and touch bar. I purchased this MacBook Pro as a life long Microsoft person to see what it had to offer that Microsoft does not and to see if the price difference in the hardware is worth it. Apple Support Has Gone Downhill
I had no issues with my order with B&H. I did however have some issues with the product. First off I think its hilarious that the brand new iPhone and the brand new MacBook Pro cannot connect to each other out of the box. The iPhone comes with the USB connection which as we know the new MacBook Pros do not have. It would be nice if there was at least an adapter that came with one or the other. coming from a 2012 MBP, this is amazing
coming from a 2012 macbook pro 13" with non-retina display, this thing is amazing. plus with a clean install of Mojave its super fast, nearly 4X faster with multicore processes. I use the machine mainly for software development and Im glad I went with the i9. This thing plows through everything. When I was setting it up I used the Intel Power Gadget to check out the temps and how the processor was running, and I think the processor is a work of art. I upgraded from a 15 inch 2014 MacBook Pro. I like the current generation's design and space gray color. Love the large trackpad, and the sound quality is great! People complain about the MacBooks because they cost quite a bit more than a similar-spec Windows notebook. But, Ive used Macs for 30 years (this is my fifteenth I think) because MacOS is so much better than Windows. The upfront cost is worth it over the life of the computer. I upgraded from a 2012 MacBook Pro and overall this computer meets my needs. It is fast and reasonably light and does a good job of running lightroom while driving a 4k screen. I like the touchbar more than I thought I would. The reasons I don't give it a higher rating are that I don't think Apple did a great job with the hardware. Generally, my experience with this new 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 15 has been expectedly good. It is very fast, quiet and an overall excellent performer. Great upgrade to my 2011 13" Macbook pro. It does what I need it to do, streaming videos and web browsing. I don't edit or create home videos anymore. Touch ID made it convenient to login. Moving all my stuff from the old to new computer was easy. Log in to both computers connected to the same wifi and open the transfer utility. Speakers are louder which was a big deal for me. Continuing Improvements to the MacBook Pro
This unit purchased to supplement a similar 4.5 year old MBP. Touch bar interesting and fingerprint unlocking is nice.
