Great for Pros and Advanced
Would have given 5 stars had Sony included a real operators manual to at least go over the basic and some advanced capabilities. If you are not a professional photographer figure on spending for $30 how-to book and/or spend hours on youtube watching for tips and tricks.

Great Camera, Exceptional Customer Service!
Love this camera and lens! Takes great pictures, even for a novice like me. Easy to use, intuitive, and high quality. Highly recommend to others. I bought this camera for a trip to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The package delivery service got their wires crossed, and couldnt deliver on time for the trip. I asked for help, and B&H Photos Reggie G. immediately sent me another to insure I had it on time. Outstanding! Thank you B&H Photo!

shutter roll effect awful
I had always use Canon DSLR and wanted a mirroless for the lightweight and versatility, but the shutter roll effect on this camera kills me. Horrible. I guess I did not research enough. Love the colors of the sony but this is unbearable.

Perfect!
I bought this to use as a gimbal cam and also to start using as my main still cam. So far I love it.

Almost Perfect Travel Camera
My wife is going on an Alaska cruise in the coming months and I wanted her to have a travel friendly camera to take along. After reading many reviews and speaking with a B&H salesperson, decided on the Sony a6500 with the 18-105mm f/4 lens. The premium kit included everything shell need, i.e. camera body, lens, lens UV filter, memory card, extra battery and charger, camera case. My wife is very inexperienced when it comes to photography so I wan... Show More

Overall good.
Small footprint. I have not had a still camera with video capability before. Also like the fact that there is no time limit on the movies.

a6500: excellent, except occasional SteadyShot issues
2/8/2019 Started using the a6500 with Tamron 18-200 zoom a couple of months ago. Good picture quality, enough customization for my purposes, good grip and balance. One negative: toward the long end of the zoom, occasionally SteadyShot _vibrates_ the sensor instead of stabilizing it; B&H let me swap bodies, and the problem remained. Infrequent, so I just turn off SS if the problem comes up.

First trip to Maui
Got my A6500 in the mail just days before my trip to Maui. Paired with the 18-105mm it was the perfect all around set up for the trip. Took the camera on a helicopter tour as well as a whale watching tour and the IBIS came in handy while taking photos and video. The 11 fps allowed me to shoot the whales jumping out of the water. With just over a week with the camera and about 1000 photos I am extremely impressed so far but time will tell. Only down fall is the battery life is extremely low, glad this kit came with an extra battery.

AWESOME CAMERA
I bought the A6500 primarily to shoot action, wildlife, and birds in flight. Only had it a couple weeks and have shot with it 3 times so still getting used to it. Love the AF and IBIS systems. The price for what you get is the selling point. Next step up in this game would be the A7III. Plus I like getting more distance from zoom lenses with the APS-C sensor! It is a little bit of a battery hog but knew that going in, and have a half dozen spares as I own 2 A6000s as well. As usual, B&Hs site, prices, and service are top notch.

Softer Than a6000
Its been a while since Ive ordered this camera, but tonight I thought Id share my annoyances with this camera. Its a lot softer than my a6000. I realized this much too late, and its a shame. It still has okay image quality, its just not as sharp. I now use it only for video and use my a6000 for photo. Maybe I got dud?

Have it your way!
This camera can be simple (auto) or complex (manual) depending on your knowledge of photography. I took it to Bhutan October 2018 without reading the directions and set it on auto - overall my pictures were excellent pending environmental obstacles. When lighting was perfect the images were crystal clear and colors true to the scene. I had two lenses 16 - 50 OSS and 55 - 210 OSS and both served their purpose well. The zipper on the camera bag that came with the accessory kit split apart the first time I used it and was not large enough for the two lenses.

Perfect camera for my needs
This a great tool for high quality photography and it takes amazing 4K video. I got the 18mm-135mm lens as part of a kit and it is a really nice sharp overall lens. I considered the 18-105 f4 but that one was more useful for video, and I am doing more with photos.

Great Time to Invest in a Camera Like This!
I won't get into the technical stuff because it's been excessively documented. So I'll stick to the end users perspective. I'm primarily an audio person. I've been producing audio professionally for over fifteen years. About a year ago I decided I wanted to invest in a "prosumer" camera for my studio. I didn't want to get into the video business. I just wanted to shoot some footage of my clients recording in the studio. I initially started l... Show More

A great camera and a great kit lens
About the camera: There are countless reviews about the sony a6500, created by professionals who layout their impressions in a well delivered manner. If you are looking to deep dive into the camera's capabilities ahead of purchase, I could not recommend more the tutorial created by Tony & Chelsea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJIfl2qh9H4&t=1985s My own personal impression in a nutshell: An absolutely great camera, packed with unbeliev... A perfect kit for filmmakers
I also own the RX100 iv, a7ii, and a7iii. I love all of these cameras, but the a6500 and 18-105 kit is perfect for film making, run and gun videos, and photos.

Wonderful Camera! **Take the time to learn it's menu**
I have a canon 5D Markiii and wanted a lighter mirrorless camera just for fun. I wasn't looking to spend much so the a6500 seemed like a good choice! So far it's been great (after figuring out the menu functions). I definitely suggest you take time to learn all of the different functions and menu options. It could be organized a little better, but all in all a good camera. The images this camera produces are very sharp. I mainly use it to photograph animals and wildlife. Fun camera to work with and the slow-motion video is great as well!

Suprising Power in Miniature
Quite a powerful camera for the size, this thing literally fits in your palm. Most lenses will be bigger and heavier than it. Impressive image quality, superb build quality, and highly versatile. Sure, battery life is lacking, but there are plenty of workarounds from extra batteries to external power banks, and it's worth it for the features and size. Menu system has a learning curve but not bad. In all this camera affords a much higher level of ... Show More

Good camera, poorly organized video menus
Note: I use it almost exclusively for video. It's mostly a good upgrade from the 5D MkIII as a B Camera. I most often put it on the Zhiyuan Crane 2 (for which it's a bit light). The image stabilization is amazing. Auto focus on the Sony 16-70 zoom is terrific. The 120fps looks great. The 4k (in truth UHD) looks very good. Complaints: The on/off button for video shooting is about the size of the head of a pin. What were they thinking? But worst fe... Show More

Sony A6500 w 18-135mm lens
Received my camera, overall it is ok. BH did a good job in prompt delivery. Good camera for travel use, w 18-135mm lens, not so heavy (approx 1.5 lbs). However, I overlooked the lens has min F-number of 3.5 for 18mm, which makes it not so good for field of depth. I may consider to buy a fixed lens with F1.8. Software is terrible. I follow all the instruction from manual, but still unable to setup the location feature (getting the GPS location f... Show More

Just dropped my rating
Today, during a shoot, the camera locked up with the message, "Camera Error. Turn power off and then on." I did as I was told, and it didn't fix things. Now, I wouldn't ordinarily drop a rating over something like this - stuff happens. However, when I went to research the problem I find that it is a common issue across the whole Alpha line, and that it pretty much means your camera is about to become a paperweight. If this problem is ha... Show More
