Excellent zoom lens for A7III
This is a great lens, especially for the sale price of $798. It is light years better than the Sony 28-70mm kit lens, I have both. Build quality and image quality are both top notch.

Great Lens, Could be Sharper
I love this lens, and for a constant aperture, the price isn't bad. It lacks the sharpness I would expect in a Zeiss backed lens though.

For the price, its a great lens
I primarily use this lens on my Sony A7S for event photography. I like the 24-70 focal length as the preferred focal length for reportage-style photography. Most of the time my shots are at the 24mm end of the lens. I will sometimes zoom in to catch a speaker at a podium. Build quality is very good and matches the build quality of the A7 camera series (which is to say the build quality is high). The lens is made from a thin (aluminum?) material... Show More

Id give it 4.5 starts if I could
Im a serious amateur photographer and have had this lens for a year or so. What I like about this lens is that its small, light, has a very useful focal range, and f/4 constant aperture through the zoom range. The built quality is very good. The price of the lens is half or less of pro F/2.8 versions produced by Sony, Nikon, Canon etc. In terms of image quality, I pretty much make do with it. The lens is reasonably sharp with good contrast, but... Show More

Great Lens, does just what I want with great results
I was a little skeptical to buy this lens due to reviews, especially for never trying it before. I needed this focal range, so I had wide angles and a 70-200 f2.8 already. The sharpness is killer, exceeds my expectations. The coloring is nice, much better than cheaper zooms. The autofocus is quick and precise, although I do recommend fine tuning, or at least checking to see how accurate it is. Mine was focusing a hair in front of the subject, not... Show More

Freakin' awesome lens!
Super sharp, super versatile, very lightweight and this auto focus rocks especially for video. Go SONY!!!

Still soft in the corners
I had hoped that more recent versions of this lens had improved, but upon my own testing I found it to be soft in the corners across focal lengths. I wanted this as a lightweight option to the 2.8, but I guess I will be using the heavier option until an updated and viable f/4 version is available.

Sony/ zeiss 24-70mm F/4 constant FE.
Pros Super sharp, smooth and fast autofocus, sleek design, lightweight yet durable, attractive bokeh very versatile. Cons Wish the zoom was more closely oiled like the focus ring is, does not come with a lens hood for such a big price.

Great purchase
This lens is perfect for my a7iii. Initially I used an mc-11 to convert my canon glass, but after getting this I will be selling my converter and glass. This focuses faster and gives me many more functions which I do not get from my mc11/canon glass. Also this lens is a must for those who are using stabilizers and can't switch lenses easily.

Very good lens.
I needed a semi wide zoom lens and after looking through reviews on most websites and YouTube I decided on the FE 24-70 f/4. The cost was also a factor and I did not want to spend a great deal of money on a lens that would be used only on some special occasions. The build quality is very good and the focus and zoom rings are functional for my use.

Recent copy much improved!
Sony apparently stepped up their QC on this lens. I tried 2 copies from 2015-2016 that did not impress, but decided to give it another chance and glad I did!! This new copy is very sharp from 35-70mm across the frame wide open and gets slightly better stopping down. Only slight corner/edge softness at 24mm....and this is on an A7RIII. Well worth the sale price, but I wouldn't pay full retail. The 24-105mm is still better optically, but if you wan... Show More

Good general walk around lens
If I had one criticism about this lens it's that I wish it were longer than 70mm, but Sony's 24-105mm is bigger and heavier than I wanted. Otherwise, it's a great little lens, the constant f4, the 24mm wide end I love. Definitely a keeper.

Delivered as Ordered
So far, the lens performs as expected. I am happy with my purchase. I plan to take it and my f/4 Sony 70-200mm on an upcoming trip in June. Hobbyist Photographer - Attached photos taken with FE 24-70mm f/4 ZA lens mounted on a Sony A7II.

Not that stoked on this lens.
As with all Sony lenses, high price for comparable low performance. I own many Sony E mount lenses, but not stoked on how slow this one focuses, and it has not great out of focus area (bokeh) look. I wanted the 24-105 but it shipped too slow for my project. Would seriously consider returning or selling this one.

Disappointed
I saw many 4 star reviews on this lens both here and elsewhere and thought it was a "great" lens for the money. I believe I've been spoiled by Canon lenses. There are geometric distortions on the edges and appears more the upper right side. In some cases, it can be corrected somewhat in Adobe but it would need to be seen before applying as it is not universal throughout all focal lengths. With that, I would need to spend extra time in post to cor... Show More

Incredible Lens. Versatile, sturdy, rock solid all around!
I got this lens along with an Sony A7R II. This is the first professional DSLR that I've owned. My background is in motion pictures, but my new job asked me to be their staff photographer, covering school events. This lens has proven to be an amazing workhorse for me in this scenario. The constant aperture allows me to shoot using manual settings with confidence without needing to make adjustments when altering the focal length. I find that I am ... Show More

Don't pixel peep too much
A lot of reviews were criticizing the lens as soft, expensive, not sharp, stick with the kit lens and etc. I don't know, but my lens is actually sharp across the frame, expensive, yes, but omg the size and weight is almost similar to the 55mm f1.8. I tried the kit lens once and found it lacking the contrast that I see from this lens. Don't be discouraged by the other reviewers, buy this lens and you won't regret it.

good lens
good lens for the price - and the right size the F2.8 lens is twice as big for that 1 extra stop - with the Sony A9 - don't really need the F2.8

Best travel lens (so far) for the Sony a7 series
Until Sony releases an update, this is the best travel lens for the Sony a7 series cameras. It's plenty sharp and fast for my travel use. I've used it on the original a7, the updated a7ii, and the high resolution a7r ii and it performed well on all those bodies.

Swiss tool for informal picture taking
If you are hanging around family & friends, or quick street photography excursion, you might want to have this dude with you. Combined with the A7RII, the f/4 lens presents little limitations, being bokeh pretty decent! In my opinion It does what it is supposed to do. If you are buying the A7RII, you might want to have this lens for sure.

Better than expected.
Despite mediocre professional reviews of this lens, I have been pleased with it. The size, weight, and build quality cannot be faulted, and the IQ is quite good except at the edges. AF is fast and silent. This lens pairs well with my A7RII to create a versatile, compact package with generally excellent IQ.

Excellent portrait lens at a reasonable price
The Vario-Tessar T* FE 24-70mm f/4 ZA OSS Lens is an excellent portrait lens at a reasonable price. It is lighter weight than the 24-70mm f/2.8 GM series Sony lens at almost half the price. With the expanded ISO range on the newer Sony cameras the lower f stop is not really needed. I used it on my Sony A7RII camera and I am pleased with the results.

Great as an all around lens
The 24-70 will give any photographer a really useful tool to capture great images. I'm using is with the A 9 so the aperture isn't that big a deal. Of course if you can afford it, get the better lens.
