This will eat up the included battery but it is a nice option to go with the built in mic and your remote xlr (that you really will need :) BTW for the camcorder you need to change a menu setting to be able to manually set the gain during auto shooting mode, the auto gain works great for my remote so I set this to manually grab live sound if needed, but those instances need the gain moved up. Another nice feature fo the camera is the flexibility in capturing sound.

Entry level
This is a pretty standard entry level shotgun mic. It's definitely better than using the built-in, on-body mic on the camera, but you get what you pay for otherwise. It's not going to perform like a much more expensive microphone, but it will at least give you a good start on stepping up your sound from the built-in.

A great mic for the price
It was included and I thank you for that perk, love you guys at B&H. And it is a good mic, not a high end mic but a very good mic. Thank you, every little bit helps us small one man operations living below the poverty line.

It works
Nothing special, except maybe the really short cord that is hard wired into the microphone. It came free with the camera so I give it 3 stars. I have a Sennhiser ME66 that is excellent so this is mostly a back up shotgun.

Good for environmental sounds not for speech
This mic does a great job of picking up sounds of the crowd, players on the field and general environmental sounds. However when used for speech it sounds empty and lacking in the mid-range

Meets Expectations
This shotgun microphone is included with the camera i purchased. It records excellent Nat sound. Not much more to say about it honestly.
