Better for guitars than an SM57

I used one on my 1965 Fender Blackface Deluxe amp last night at a gig-WOW. I'm selling my SM57 now and gonna replace it with one of these. Versus the SM57, it gives a clearer representation of my amp's sound, it picks up a lot less of the atmosphere (room or stage), which means less phase cancellation, and is much more directional than a 57. I mean I can move it one little hair and you can hear a huge difference, unlike a 57 where you can hear a little difference, but not nearly as much because it's not as directional as the Heil. Excellent microphone with balanced sound from low to high with smooth, flat mid range. Looks expensive with a durable finish. HEIL stands by their stuff with good service after the sale. While it is overkill for ham radio, it does sound good on a transceiver and looks good in the shack. This microphone really shines on straight vocals, whether singing or speaking, with rather good clarity and articulation. This mic compares well with the Sennheiser e835 and has a slightly more open, airy high end than the e835, which has a slightly smoother, richer lower end. The Pr20 is especially good for female voices, while the e835 is slightly better for male voices - especially speech. But, hey, you be the judge! Crisp and Clear Vocals

The one word that keeps coming to mind with this mic is clarity. All of the little nuances of the human voice come through with this. The "standard" dynamic makes you sound like you've got cotton balls in your mouth by comparison. I've worked with this for about three weeks, and used it to record three songs, and redo the vocals on another. Crisper and less "hissy" than my vocal condenser. The on/off switch is a nice feature-can nuke feedback before you kill the audience if mic gets into field of PA speakers. It seems very well made, probably indestructible like most dynamics. Has an upscale look to it. Like any new piece of gear added to a signal chain, you need to tweak the EQ to get the most out of it. Once properly EQ'd, I had no problem with "plosives". For me, it performs best when my mouth is a few inches from the mic. ... More

So far so good! Very sensitive mike that picks up highs and lows better than SM58 that I've been used to. Love the interchangeable heads too!

I bought this mic to record electric guitar and it works exceedingly well for that purpose in both clean channel and overdrive. The mic is a dynamic that works best with pre-amps that have a normal 1.5K to 2K input impedance which makes it useful with a wide array of modern audio equipment. (I also use a Shure SM57 and a Shure SM7B for electric guitar and they work best with pre-amps that offer a lower input impedance such as 500 ohms.) The sonic characteristic of the Heil PR20 sits between the SM57 and the SM7B. The Heil has a rich low end, a slightly forward mid range and a very smooth top end. ... More

Best snare mic I have used so far! There is a lot more bottom than with my B56a. Used it on vocals also and it's great! Looking to try it on guitar amp soon. It's kind of a go-to mic, just like a 57, but with something more, probably due to its large-diaphragm. Check the review on Recordinghacks! Be aware that you better use it on a stand tho, there's a lot of handling noise. For less handling noise, check out the pr-22.

Needed a desk mic for my Yaesu FTDX101 transceiver. Works well out of the box. Used the eq settings found on https://heilhamradio.com/ to make it sound even better. Get good audio reports. No complaints. Fine product.

Made in USA, designed by an audio genius - what's not to like. Stacks up against the big boys all night long. Other vocalist has Shure Beta 87. This is just as good at almost 1/3 the price.
