I have been using the Audio-Technica ATH-R70x headphones for a couple of weeks now and I find them to be very comfortable to wear for up to an hour and to give a very transparent sound. I typically use these headphones to listen to my live recordings of a local church choir or organ recital, where in some cases I have recordings from two performances and thus have to select the best recording. I am hearing parts of my recordings, both purchased and my own, that I have not heard before (including quite coughs, babies talking, page turns, etc.). I would unequivocally recommend these headphones as good value for the money spent and for their intend use.. ... More

After about two years of use, I have to say these are the most comfortable headphones I own. I regularly forget I am wearing them! The sound quality on these is impressive. They are definitely darker than any of my other headphones, and ever so slightly darker than what I would call neutral. Perhaps the best analogy is the U47 microphone. However, that's not to say it's overly bassy; I tested about a dozen open backs at B&H in person at the time and these had the least 'bass bleed', where bass frequencies overwhelm the low-mids, while also having some of the most 'polite' highs, or as others put it, 'non-fatiguing'. They are particularly pleasant on classical and jazz, and provide quite good detail and sound stage. Most certainly an upgrade on my ancient Q701's! However, they are definitely on the 'slow' side, lacking the transient clarity of brighter or higher-end headphones, so less analytical and more enjoyable- they do make your music sound 'better', but not necessarily show all the flaws. For that reason, I'd say they're not necessarily the be-all-end-all of mixing/mastering headphones, but for listening otherwise, they are excellent. Other benefits include their remarkably small size and aforementioned light weight; they also have massively less bleed than my other open-backs, and I have even used them for tracking without much more bleed than my closed backs do. ... First, these are extremely comfortable to wear for long periods. The design is light and unobtrusive. I use them for live monitoring while I'm performing live music online. Obviously there's a little audio bleed when I have the volume up--they're open backs--but I primarily work with dynamic mics and it's totally fine with the roll off. As for sound, it's nice. Depending on how enveloped you want to be, you could do well with an additional headphone amp. For me, it's great; I don't need them pushed all the time. I don't like a lot of bass because I have sensory issues with the "thump." These had more bass than I was expecting based on the reviews, but I felt like I got a good, natural and clear sense of the bass without the thump. ... More

Excellent value. This open back headphone produces spacious and detailed sound with solid and none intrusive base. It is better than I expected at this price point.

I've not had them for a really long time, but I bought these because the room my little studio is in doesn't do well with monitors. They're incredibly lightweight and the sound is fantastic. Nothing is exaggerated and since these are my first pair of open back headphones I'm really impressed with the way they perform without being fatiguing, even after several hours of wear. I must echo the sentiment that the cups are slightly on the small side, but the fit is still superb and I'd absolutely recommend these as an excellent introduction to how good headphones can actually be. ...
