Better than I thought

Nov 2, 2010

I tried the more expensive models from various brand names and could not tell a difference among them. I was very pleased with the clarity and well balanced sound of the Sony MDR-V6. Will paying three times as much produce a better experience? Probably, but I am more than pleased with these. Try them and see for yourself.

These are simply great headphones. I also own MDR-7506 as well for studio work. It is really hard to hear any difference between them honestly. Great for mixing when you are traveling and perfect for tracking vocals and guitars in the studio.

Best headphones I have ever owned

Oct 4, 2010

I have gone through countless sets of headphones and gaming headsets, and I had finally had enough. I've owned earplugs, over-ear headphones and around-ear headphones, and the MDR-V6 is by far the best set I have ever owned. I have had these for 2 years now, dropped them many times and they show no signs of wear or tear. The majority of the construction is of lightweight metal which makes these headphones incredibly durable, which was one of my t... Show More

Exceptional sound

We actually bought these for our 4 year old to use with a portable DVD player and Leap Frog elactronic game on trips. Someone had recomended this ,but it seemed pricey considering the intended use. However, now the whole family has used them and no doubt they will be worth every penny. Really a great sound.

I use these to track guitar and listen for very minor details when mixing. They excel at both tasks. The sound is very clear and very flat (as far as I can tell).

I you the product for listening to audio and soundtrack files for school and work. No sound difference between speakers and Headphones on playback. Yet you can hear the small differences in different compressed audio files.

Worthwhile Investment

Excellent sound quality. Comfortable. The bass is a little lower than most consumer headphones I have owned, which as a personal preference may be less desirable. One thing that can be a little annoying is the headphones are prone to folding up on themselves when you take them off, and don't rest well around your neck. But it's really not much of an issue, and I really like the fact they fold up so I'm happy to take a minor negative.

Great Headphone

I use these with a portable pro audio mixing rig and as a camera headphone. Great sound for such a compact headphone, comfortable, cheap, well-built. Earphone pads slip off sometimes. A no-brainer purchase for a headphone of this quality.

These Sony MDR-V6 Headphones are used for critical listening sessions and editing of custom recordings. The sound is clear and un-encumbered, without any coloration of the sound tracks. No matter what type of music you like or use these phones for, you will not be sorry. Be advised not all Sony models are this good, so do not be misled and purchase another model. Outstanding Headphones

Jun 19, 2010

I love the way the sound feels like it's coming from the top of your head/centered, instead of left/right ears. That to me is a mark of good stero. No need to get technical...for the money this is a great product.

Still Great After FIVE Years

Comfortable, great base response, blocks most ambient noise. I've had mine for over 5 years, used almost every day......Wore out and replaced the ear pads once.

absolutely impressed

Jun 10, 2010

Having read review after review, and taking my time to decide on a good quality set of headphones to buy, I settled on buying the MDR-V6 headphones because of comfort and sound quality considerations. This was after considering Sennheiser, etc. I'm so glad I went with these, as the sound quality is absolutely amazing, and will more than likely buy another pair of these if having to replace the pair I have - they're awesome.

Solidly Made, Good Sound

Apr 15, 2010

I use these primarily for watching television/DVDs, because partial hearing loss makes headphones better than speakers. Had numerous sets of Sennheisers, but they were flimsy, esp. in the cable, and did not last long. These seem much more robust than the Sennheisers. First pair of Sonys held up well for 2 years (avg. life of Sennheisers), but were accidentally destroyed. Sound quality is comparable (to my damaged ears) between the two brands, but Sony is louder, perhaps because of over the ear, rather than on-ear design. Ears can get a bit warm with extended use.

Best set of cans for the money

Apr 14, 2010

I use these headphone in my home recording studio and I can't say enough about them. Comfort is outstanding and the clarity is unbelievable. If you're looking for noise cancelling headphones these are not for you, but if you want a good set of headphones for mixing and can't afford to spend more than $ then this is it. Great product for minimal cost.

Great sound, good value

I use it for: mixing music with DAW I compared a Sony MDR-V6, AKG K271MkII and Sennheiser HD-280 Pro side by side. All 3 are high quality monitor headphones. I use it for mixing music and so my chief concern is the true reproduction of sound over the hearing spectrum. I played all of they through an ONKYO Hi-Fi set. According to my subjective hearing experience, Sennheiser HD-280 is having the least bass sound. Sony MDR-V6 and AKG K271MkII is abo... Show More

Headphones, great price, ipod perfect

Mar 16, 2010

I own a set of Bose Headphones, noise canceling monsters that are unreal, but big ole, heavy things, I needed some phones for my Son's Ipod and after all the reviews it came down to these, I listened to the Monster phones, yea great sound, but these Sony Phones are just as good, for a fraction of the price, and I cannot imagine, how that little box pumps out the energy, but you do not need an extra amp, not for the ipod anyway, would not have believed it, but you cannot go wrong, go slip on a pair somewhere, but for $, it is no gamble. Not just for the Pro audio folks

Mar 11, 2010

As an Amateur Radio operator these headphones are outstanding. They are light weight, cover the ear comfortably, and sound amazing! The coiled cord has plenty of length. The only downside are the ear pads wearing out. Now they will last for years but be aware they will tear where they attach to the ear piece over time. You can purchase replacements so don't let this stop you from buying these headphones. These are similar to the MDR-7506 and they are NOT similar to the MDR-V600....The MDR-V600 is a poor unit and only buy the MDR-V6 or the pro audio MDR7506.
