Love this focal length and lens with the a7iii!
I've had a 50mm before on my canon, but this 55mm is so beautiful! Can't go wrong with this focal length, it's the best all around!! My husband and I both use it for video and photography, the portraits are stunning and so is the video capabilities and for product photography. It's a cute and compact lens also for gimbal use and hand held walking around! Love the zeiss / sony combo!!

A lens you should always carry with you.
This is my go to lens for wedding photography and videography, It is a very versatile prime lens. if you are after a lens that can give you a beautiful bokeh at an affordable price, this is the lens for you. Zeiss and Sony exceeded my expectations with this one.

Small but mighty!
Great for landscapes, portraits and a general walk around lens! If you only get one Sony lens make it this one!! The photos are very sharp and full of contrast with attention to detail! This lens is wonderful for traveling, very light!!

Does not DISAPPOINT!
another Zeiss winner for my mirrorless Sony a7rIII. Sharp photos, fast and light weight. Easier to carry for a day out getting lost in the lens. Well done Sony!

Tiny but potent
Good things sometimes come in small packages. This lens is small and lightweight but that doesn't compromise the image quality which is stunning. Looking forward to taking it out on the street.

Razor sharp
I don't use this lens as often as I should. It's by far the sharpest lens I own - I have the 16-35 GM 2.8, and the 70-200 f/4 by sony. Yes it's prime, but this little lens is a beast.

Excellent Lens
This lens is fantastic in every way! As a professional, I am extremely about optics. This lens is one of the best Ive ever used. It is stunningly tack sharp! When pared with a good camera like the A7iii, its autofocus is superbly fast and accurate! The color rendering and bokeh is beautiful! NOTE: If you like perfectly round bokeh, you will not like this lens. The bokeh has a lot of character and looks more like an oval with pointy ends as opposed to a circle. However, I love it. This lens is an absolute steal for just $1000! Performs like a $2500 lens.

Not a pixel peeper
I have the Sony G Master 85mm and I love it ! I needed something for tighter spaces when I just cant back up anymore and was f 1.8 . The 55 mm seems to be sharp from edge to edge ,fast and very light weight. It was a great choice !

I have this and the 50mm 1.4 FE Zeiss....
This was one of three lenses that I had purchased with my A7III and it is perfect focal length for me. The build quality is excellent and the sharpness will cut you. I had recently purchased the 50mm 1.4 FE Zeiss due to the glowing recommendations I had been reading online about it. I have a macbook pro retina screen and I took a few test shots with both to see if I could tell the difference. The sharpness for both lenses wide open is a tie. I CA... Show More

Great lens but noisy
Super sharp. Very nice lens. My only complaint is the aperture noise when not on AF-C mode. I hear loud noise when pressing the shutter halfway to focus, when turning on/off the camera or when adjusting the aperture. People say it is normal but for a $1000 this lens should be near flawless.

Yep, it is a superb lens
I am a onezoomlens kinda guy. Last year I bought the a7rIII with the 24-105 mm f4 G lens and love it. After using that setup all year, I opted to buy this lens, given that it gets glowing reviews. I am still learning how to see the way it sees, but so far, so unbelievably good; it feels like this could be my new go to lens and my zoom will be for a few instances. This lens produces creamy bokeh and is sharp as all get out, taking full advantage o... Show More

WhattaSharpie!
I havent had the lens very long, but Im seriously impressed with its ability to image detail makes me think of graphic arts lenses I used 40 years ago. Contrast is high. Color rendition appears to me to be spot-on. These Zeiss inspired lenses are making me want to throw away all the Nikons & Canons in my gadget bag(s). Wake up Japan! Your competitors are eating your (market) lunch.

Wow!
Switched over from Nikon to Sony, first lens I wanted was the Sony 55mm 1.8. Expensive for a 1.8 nifty fifty but great size, pretty small and light, which was the whole point of going to Sony. This lens lives up to the hype!

Awesomeness
My first lens I bought with a 7 iii, and I absolutely happy and satisfied with it. Just love it.

Small, light, perfect
This lens is small, light, quick to focus, sharp as all get-out, and just kind of perfect. I bought the 50mm f/1.4 originally but a bunch of friends more familiar with Sony said I really had to try this lens out, so I did. One of the reasons I switched to Sony from Nikon is for the smaller, lighter gear and the 55mm f/1.8 was so fantastic I returned the 1.4.

Excellent Lens
I absolutely love this lens!! I am a self confessed pixel peeper and this lens delivers the results I am looking for! The sharpness is insanely good! I have paired this lens with my Sony a7iii and what a dream combo they are! The lens is fast focusing and super silent. I rarely get a missed shot with this lens and if I do, its because my settings were off. I highly recommend this lens to anyone shooting with Sony and is looking for a portrait lens that still allows you some room tight places.

Love this lens
I wanted a normal lens for my Sony a7iii and this one had such high reviews that I took a chance on it. Im glad I did. Its tack sharp and gives a nice balanced setup for everyday use. You wont regret buying this lens.

What an excellent prime.
There isn't much to dislike about this lens. Maybe some fringing in difficult conditions? It's so sharp and contrasty, and has that Zeiss look, I love every picture that comes out of this lens. Super fast, accurate, and silent AF too. If you have the funds and the interest you won't be disappointed.

Love this lens
This has become one of my favorite street lenses. Fast to focus, nice bokeh, very sharp and not too large (especially without the hood). I recommend it....

Very good and expensive lens
The optical qualities of this lens are well known, and I can confirm as very good to excellent. I am not sure that its price level is completely justified though. Considering that the lens is relatively small and light, is native Sony, has fast and silent autofocus in photo and video modes, there is really no alternative. There are better (and much heavier) options like Sigma Art for studio work.

Light weight and SHARP
I had forgotten what a pleasure it is to shoot with a sharp prime of this focal length. On a A7Riii, it is also balances well and the results are stunning. If you don't need the speed of a 1.4, this is a lot less bulky...
