I am using these MDR-V6 for the past 17 Years for recording purposes, I keep one spare on the shelve if Sony decides to discontinue so at least i will have a new in box for a few years until i will find a GEM like this one ! I recommend MDR-V6 Stereo Headphones in a heart beat to anyone looking for a professional yet economical headphones. Though the latest ones have shrink-ed in size a bit but still cant beat the quality at this price !

Sony's BEST headphone!!!

Nov 24, 2009

These headphones may truly be the BEST audio offering/value in the entire Sony headphone line up, with efficient performance, a balanced/accurate & lively sound signature up & down the frequency range, along with excellent portability & durability. No audio enthusiast, studio buff, or mobile audiophiles should be without one or two!!! If you don't own one yet, do yourself a favor & pick up a pair, it's a purchase you will not regret!!!

Worthwhile Investment

Aug 31, 2010

Excellent sound quality. Comfortable. The bass is a little lower than most consumer headphones I have owned, which as a personal preference may be less desirable. One thing that can be a little annoying is the headphones are prone to folding up on themselves when you take them off, and don't rest well around your neck. But it's really not much of an issue, and I really like the fact they fold up so I'm happy to take a minor negative.

Decent headphones

Dec 19, 2010

These headphones are a good value for quality and sound. The sound is clear with accurate range from lows to highs. Only issue for me is that my ears seem to be larger than normal and for extended use they get uncomfortable, even with the deluxe add on ear pads. The sound quality is not audiophile, but for the price I'm not complaining. I use my Stax for that. I use these mostly for computer and iPod use and when I occasionally fly.

MDR-V6 - Excellent Headphones

Jul 16, 2012

OK, The MDR V6 is an Excellent headphone and BHPhotovideo.com offered the best price I could find. The quality is superb, remember these headphones were introduced in 1985 as studio monitor headphones and Sony are still producing them today so they also maintian the original look/design. You wont be dissapointed - these headphones could have easily been priced at $. Excellent clear sound. Buy from BHPhotovideo.com and Enjoy. Cheers.

Excellent headphone!

Dec 28, 2009

Owned a pair since 1978 (junior year in college): though the earplugs are worn, still working, same great sound as Day 1. Excellent sound, high fidelity, very comfortable. Probably the best VALUE one can find. Sounds better than the MDR 7506 (also very good sound, similar physical design/comfort) probably due to wider frequency response. I'm surprised it is still available after all these years! Will buy another one just in case....

Great entry level headphones

Aug 1, 2011

I use these every day for listening to music and playing games. The sound quality far surpasses any other headphones I've had in the past at a great price. I can hear things I never heard before like a new instrument or footsteps in a game, and the 3m coiled cord is a godsend. They could have had a little more bass but for the price this is a non-issue. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for an all around great experience.

Mmm! Tasty!

I have a small 24-track Studio... two mdr-v6 and two 7506 Sony's...I like the V6 more ...the drummer and the bass player are using the 7506s...I love the sound the pads are replaceable when they wear out the Springs are a little tight I have a big head but I can either tweak that a little or wait till it stretches out a little...now my Trio can work with a guest! and we All get decent sound when we're recording with headphones...

Great Headphones!

Jan 25, 2010

Wow; i would like to start listing all of the many pluses about these headphones but they've already been stated in previous reviews. Basically; they sound great and are extremely comfortable not to mention a great value. Apparently these headphones have been so good that they've been around for about 20 years (i'm sure the technology has changed inside them though). If you can afford these, then buy them and you wont regret it.

absolutely impressed

Jun 10, 2010

Having read review after review, and taking my time to decide on a good quality set of headphones to buy, I settled on buying the MDR-V6 headphones because of comfort and sound quality considerations. This was after considering Sennheiser, etc. I'm so glad I went with these, as the sound quality is absolutely amazing, and will more than likely buy another pair of these if having to replace the pair I have - they're awesome.

Good Headphones, But not Great fit

Feb 13, 2011

These are some pretty great headphones. They have a very good sound, a little colored in the low end, but other wise very clean. The mids and highs are very clear and the lows are responsive and present. The only thing I don't like about these headphones is the fit. They fit very loose around my head. I had to push them up against my head to get a good fit. Other than the fit, these are very good headphones for the price.

Great range and clarity!

Mar 24, 2017

This is the first pair of studio headphones I've ever used, and the audio range and clarity is much better than anything else I've ever listened to. They are comfortable to wear, have a generous cord length, and seem to be of high quality. I will never spend $200 for a pair of Bose headphones, or any brand that expensive, so I can't compare the sound quality to something like that, but I am very impressed nonetheless.

Works for Me!!!

Oct 15, 2017

Work great - the coiled cord is not so heavy that it would pull your head to the floor. Sound is flat and clear. Used for listening to music to write choreography (ballet) to. All the nuance's of the music can be heard. At the price do not need to treat them with kit gloves can be hauled everywhere and when there is a moment pulled out and uses and thrown back into the bag till another opportunity presents itself.

Great Headphones for any price

Apr 27, 2011

I am a composer and producer, so having a great pair of headphones is important to my work and also for just listening for pleasure. These Sony headphones are a great addition to any studio setup. And they make your Ipod or IPhone one hundred times better. There is a nice range of bass and treble, and I find them to be very pleasing and accurate. And they fold nicely in the bag for storage and transporting.

MDR-V6 headphones

Aug 11, 2011

I am a musician-songwriter traveling away from home, I needed reliable headphones to review mixes and my engineer suggested the Sony MDR-V6 I did not want to spend a pile of money as I do have high fidelity headphones at my studio. These headphones fill the bill. Great sound quality, neutral EQ, well built and reliable. So far nothing not great about them I will keep these around for sure at the studio.

Best value studio headphones

Sep 7, 2011

I've also owned a pair of MDR-7506s for almost 10 years and these v6s seem to have just as clean with a flatter frequency response, which I prefer. The build quality is solid and it comfortable with a good seal from exterior noise. The only improvement I'd like on all Sony headphones would be a shorter, or detachable cable like some other brands. The ability to change the cord length would be awesome.

After 20 years they still sounded great

Aug 15, 2011

I first bought a Sony MDR-V6 about 20years ago because of a Consumers Report article .I had to replace the ear pads about 4 years ago, although they still sounded great. One night in the dark I stepped on them and broke the head set I didn't even give it a second thought about what to get as a replacement(another MDR-V6) . By the way they originally cost me twice as much. I think they are a great deal.

Bad for the first bit, amazing afterward

Dec 4, 2011

When I first heard these I thought they were terrible, so I decided to break them in by playing music on it on moderate volume for about 25 hours. The sound changed drastically over the course of this time--Very clear highs and great punchy lows! The only thing I dislike is the comfort, I can't wear them for longer than a couple of hours. But then again, I'm comparing these to the Sennheiser HD650's.

A Great Product

Mar 27, 2011

These are great headphones! Ive been in video production for while now, and all of the best audio techs i've worked with swear by them. I have used these myself before purchasing and since acquiring its been smooth sailing. they take a beating and deliver great audio time and time again. They even cancel ambient noise, not greatly but just enough to help you hear that the audio you gathering is good.

Comfy and travel well.

May 19, 2013

These headphones are super comfy. They fold up easy for travel and can take a beating. The cord is long but still manageable for daily ipod use. They also sound great! I play my music too loud in public. With these, I don't disturb anyone because they don't put off any sound when you're wearing them. They are nice and big to fit over my whole ear, which makes the sound more encompassing. Love them!

Just what I was looking for

Jul 16, 2011

These are fantastic, quality headphones that I've been looking for for a long tome. They're not too bulky, just the right size and style for an upcoming college freshman. And the sound quality! I feel like I've never listened to such crisp audio before. My only issue I suppose would be the coiled wire, it's a little heavy in certain circumstances. By no means does that mean I regret this purchase!

Better sound than hd280 and others

Jan 30, 2012

These cans sound insanely good, I really loved my hd280 pros but they are not as well made, do not feel as comfy and do not reproduce sound and music as accurately as these cans do. On top of all that, these v6s are TANKS, I have thrown them, traveled with them and they cannot be killed. Ear pads wear off and are hard to put on but thats a minor thing. Great bass impact and extension, great mids.

Good but not best

Apr 16, 2009

I bought these headphones to do professional field audio. For the price they sound great and are well made except for one problem. The soft ear covers will not stay on the headphones. I must have put the covers back on the headphones at least five times on one shoot. Once I got home I selectively spot super glued the covers on. I have done three shoots since and they have not fallen off once.

MDR-V6 Headphones for the professional

Jan 14, 2010

As a film maker I need well made equipment that does its job. And I want things that last and that I can depend on,which is certainly trues with these headphones. They are solid, collapsible, and there isn't a part that will snap, crack,or twist off. There are many more expensive headphones but few offer the sound quality at this price. Its a home run piece of equipment that can just keep going.
