Fast and accurate

Aug 27, 2018

We love this camera at Ballard Industrial. Currently we are using it to photograph products for our website along with a Sony HVL-F34M external flash. We are getting great results with good exposures and sharp, clean details. I also tried it around the building inside and out with impressive results. The white balance, exposure and focus are spot on every time in real world situations. Our warehouse is a bit dim in some spots and the camera handled those high ISO situations with ease and very low noise. I am looking forward to using it to document our next event.

Impressive, so far (after 2 weeks)

I am likely not the typical buyer of the A6300 as video and 4K are not important to me. I purchased for traditional photo stills quality. The speed and accuracy of auto-focus are what prompted me to buy. And, no doubt the A6300 delivers. Auto focus is great and overall picture quality is great - very crisp. Not to mention, I am using the kit motorized zoom lens! For only $150. extra it seemed worth getting. My prior camera was a Nikon D7100 (also excellent) However, I find the A6300 to be much more portable and low profile - thus, more likely to be brought on trips.

Great camera overall, read for details and small cons.

Feb 28, 2017

Excellent little camera. Pros: Great quality. Cons: battery does not last long, and it doesn't come with an external charger so you will need to buy an extra battery and charger separately. 16-50mm lens is very good, but it is a shame it does not come with a lens hood (the 55/210 does come with one). Also it should come with a body cap and lens rear cap. Settings are a bit complex and it is easy to change them inadvertently. But overall it is a great buy, now that it is discounted (the additional enhancements of the a6500 IMHO do not justify the price difference).

Almost perfect

Mar 31, 2016

The image quality on this thing is fantastic. The only thing that ruins this camera for video is the rolling shutter and the overheating issue. Rolling shutter isn't that big of a deal in most real-world situations, but overheating worries me. I just wish sony could come out with a firmware to make the 1080p look more detailed and not so soft. The a5100 and a6000 had great 1080p, but this camera's 1080p looks softer. The 4K is beautiful though, so unless you're running and gunning all day and need a reliable camera, this will do almost anything you need it to.

Great little camera, watch the rolling shutter and 1080p!

Apr 19, 2016

I only use for filmmaking, so note that!* Love the size, the quality at 4k and the slow-motion is cool. The kit lens does a great job and absolutely worth the price. I love that i can stuff this in my jacket and go get some rad clips. Bummed theres no way to monitor the audio via headphones, that the rolling shutter is pretty ugly, that recording past 5 mins of so in 4k will render it too hot and shut down, and that the 1080p files seem to be pretty dang noisy. But then again, I'm being picky. For the price, you can't beat it. Its an amazing travel companion!

Had to return it due to overheating

Jul 4, 2016

This took excellent photos, even with the kit lens, but it overheated so readily I could not use it. The Internet is full of experimenters attempting to deal with this issue with faster memory cards, tricking the camera into a low level reset by changing the date/year setting, and even external batteries, fans, or recorders. And it seems to not affect every sample of the camera. I wasn't willing to go through all that and returned it after 2 days. If you get this, test it right away in the environments you plan to use it in to see if it works for your needs.

Easy to use camera

Aug 20, 2016

I'm loving my new a6300 camera. I am not a professional photographer but take a lot of art photos. While I understand the ins and outs of getting a good shot, Im very happy to let the camera do the work for me. The auto settings, especially in the Scene category, give you really clear, perfectly light balanced shots. You can choose from Landscape, Portrait, Macro, Sunset and Night Shots. I've been amazed how the camera gives me better settings than I would myself on manual (which is available as well). Light and easy to use. Im happy I bought this camera.

Poor electronic viewfinder

May 23, 2016

The camera performed as expected according to the manufacturer claims except that the electronic viewfinder image was tilted off of vertical and I would have to tilt the camera slightly when using it to get a true vertical image. The LCD display displayed correct orientation. This is so unexpected in a $1000 camera and was so annoying that I returned it. I will wait until Sony hopefully gets their quality control in order with this camera before reconsidering it again. I own two other Sony cameras and have sung their praises, but this now gives me pause.

Great quality, lots of features and light weight

Dec 4, 2016

I am coming from Canon APS-C and FF cameras and found that I was not taking my camera with me as much due to the weight and size. After a few months of reviews I decided on the a6300 and could not be happier. The auto focus is so fast and the feel of the camera in hand is very nice. I have since bought two other lens (35mm 1.8 for low light and 55-210 for outdoor reach which still makes the whole package less than 2 lbs. I shoot RAW for pictures and do occasional video with it. Both look great and through Lightroom I am able to get the results I need.

Great Camera!

Mar 23, 2016

This is a phenomenal camera for the price. I waited for the a6300 to drop and I'm glad I've waited. The feel and design has some minor improvements and the speed of autofocusing is spectacular. The image quality is superb and I feel that this camera gives me as professional of an image as many other previous cameras I've owned. Loving the additional variety of Zeiss e mount lenses for this camera which make the images pop and it so versatile. The 4K video is icing on the cake. So pleased with this purchase and price and ease of ordering on B&H photo.

Great camera, Very impressed.

Nov 7, 2017

I bought the a6300 to go along with my Sony a7 full frame. The main reason was to extend the focal length of the prime lenses I have. I considered the a6000 but what sold me on the a6300 is this camera is weather resistant and built tough. The a6300 feels really good and solid in my small hands. Although different from the a7 button placement, it's easy to use, with buttons conveniently placed. The shutter is much quieter than the a7. It's a little lighter and smaller than the a7. Both camera's are great to take along on my bicycle trips.

Good starting camera for professional looking pics

May 16, 2018

I am one that usually takes pictures on either my Android cell phone or my Go Pro and so this is my first mirrorless camera and I love it. The camera has the ability to take Autofocus pictures if Im not picky and then there are times I can change the settings in case Im pickier with taking pictures. Its also a great camera to take pictures at night as well. Yes it does eat up battery but with the small size and power this camera has what do you expect? Im totally happy with this camera and buying it at B&H is the cheapest Ive seen online.

Great Little Camera

Sep 19, 2016

So far, I am really enjoying this camera. For me to write a review before I have used the camera for 6 months to a year, is impossible. That being said, I have used it intensively for the last 3 months and everything that has come out of it has impressed me. I had a Sony about 10 years ago which I traded in for a dSLR. I love my dSLR, but the weight involved for traveling made it truly impractical. I am anxious to see all the tricks my Sony a6300 can do, when I get into putting it to the test. I am prepared to be thrilled and amazed!

Serious improvement

Apr 26, 2016

I'm waiting for a photo trip in Vietnam next month to really test the 6300 but in local shoots, so far, it truly outperforms the 6000 in still pictures. So far, the battery life has been neither better nor worse. What has improved markedly is the ability to focus on not just a focal point but also its immediate area. My A7r was not a great success but was very expensive. To be honest, the A6000 was in part a revulsion at the cost of the A7rII and it was an honest performer. I expect the 6300 to be that much better. More to follow.

Great Value for Money!

Dec 17, 2016

The kit is amazing! I own a D810 and with a couple of lenses (105mm AFS F2.8G Micro, 70-200 AFS F2.8 VR1, 28-70mm AFS F2.8). Having bought the Sony, this has introduced a major change including form factor. Instead of carrying a backpack, you'll just need a pocket case! The 16-50mm is just like a 18-55mm but it is not that bad! Regarding overheating, you cannot have everything into one piece, so this is acceptable to me. As for battery life, it is suggested to switch to airplane mode to prevent WiFi hunting. Overall, I like it!

It Feels Great in My Hands

Mar 26, 2016

The camera fits as if it was made for me. Controls are comfortable and photos are turning out well. This is my first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera so there is lots of learning. Very unhappy with the Sony E50mm f/1/8OSS lens. I live in New Mexico and because of the sun/wind/elevation you need to always use a filter. No filter will fit this camera and permit using the hood. A local camera shop looked and just shook their heads. When I called B&H they agreed they had heard of this problem and guided me to another lens.

Good but meh

Aug 18, 2016

Sent it back. In the end it was just too small for me and while I liked the images it produced the screen and the viewfinder were like a step backwards. I have two other A7's and I was hoping this would have replaced the A7II but it just didn't feel like a real camera, whatever that is in this day and age. I will probably just wait until Sony releases its next bomb shell. I love my A7sII and thought the 6300 would have been a perfect stealth camera but the trade off of buttons, dials and features felt like a step backward.

Nice Upgrade

Apr 28, 2016

I've been using the NEX 7 for a couple of years and was reluctant to switch to the a6300, but find it was worth it! Nice feel, a little more substantial than the NEX7 and many added features. I shoot a lot of nature and night shots and this cameras fast focus has been a big improvement for me. I also like the dedicated top mounted dial for mode. It leaves more room for other aspects on the back dials. The features and menus are so voluminous to be difficult to work through at times. I can't wait for an aftermarket book.

Great camera!

Apr 4, 2016

I use this product as a beginner getting into photography and videography. I won't be using this for professional use, so I'll typically be shooting short clips, maybe 5 minutes tops. Camera picture quality is great, lots of settings, after a few hours of playing around the camera is very user friendly. Touch screen focus not being available is not a big deal and the manual focus peaking is incredible, better than the autofocus when you need to focus on a target far away for skyline pictures. No complaints so far.

Great step up from bulky DSLR

Mar 23, 2016

This camera replaced my big bulky Canon 60D and its kit lenses. The a6300 coupled with my new Zeiss 16-70 lens (no more kit lenses) works very well together with good feel and fit. So far the images and video have been tack sharp. The menu is huge, working through it though, setting up my custom keys to do my casual family photography. The video feature is easy to use as well. Overall I think changing over to mirror-less will be a good thing and am excited to see where other a6300 features take my photography.

Bokeh 4K!!

Apr 3, 2016

I've been watching and reading so much information on this gem before its release and knew what I was getting into. I love the idea of having high quality video that is broadcast ready and still images that are ready for print. I was playing around with the kit lens and was surprised at the bokeh I achieved, however I still will purchase a G master lens and some off brand lenses as well! I truly happy with this purchase and can't wait to become more familiar with this awesome piece of camera technology!

Overheating!

May 2, 2016

I got the camera and the very first day I shoot handheld 4K 24p with a SEL55-210 lens and it overheated in 10min. outside on a 25deg C day. It did a bit better with the kit SELP1650 lens. I believe it has todo with OSS and the 24p Super 35mm mode but that is still very short. It does a lot better on tripod. I bought it for a summer trip to the UK to just bring one camera only, I have an AX100 too but I am more a video shooter than stills. I may have to return it if there is no solution to the problem.

Overheating is definitely a problem and its unpredictable

Oct 10, 2016

This is absolutely a great camera, I love it actually so much. But the overheating is definitely a problem. Sometimes it starts to overheat after 5 minutes, sometimes it overheats after 1hour. I can't shoot like this. I tried several times, to just shoot for 20/30min turn it off for 5/10min and then shoot again for 20/30min ....but here again sometimes it's overheating, sometimes it's just fine. I'm hoping the a6500 won't have the overheating, because just like the a6300 it's just an amazing camera.

Alpha a6300 Mirrorless Digital Camera

Mar 23, 2016

The a6000 and a6300 are nearly identicalthe big changes are internal. The biggest change is in the autofocus. The a6000 featured 198 phase detection points and 25 contrast detection points. The a6300 features a new High-Density AF Tracking system, 4D FOCUS, that sports 425 phase detection points and 169 contrast detection points, which in practice makes the difference. The rest of the a3600 feathers are nice but what really turned me on was that the low light shooting was better than my a7rII.
