Terrific Camera!

Jan 2, 2015

The Sony A6000 is both lightweight and powerful. I love the 11fps feature with autofocus in-between each shot. Face recognition and tracking are handy as well. Love the 24 megapixels. Can take great indoor shots without flash. There's a great video by Jason Lanier (pro photographer) on YouTube titled 10 Reasons Why a Professional Photographer Left Nikon and started shooting with Sony, which highlights this camera's strengths. Also, do a google search for an in-depth instructional video by Gary Fong (another pro photographer) called Unleashing The Power Of Your Sony A6000. Step-by-step GREAT!

Great value for the price

Jan 7, 2016

I wanted a mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses and this is a nice little kit. 24MP is reasonable resolution and the 24-75mm (35mm equivalent) lens covers the vast majority of my everyday subjects, plus I bought an adapter for my old Canon FD lenses which opens up lots of additional possibilities. The camera functions beautifully. It's small and very responsive with lots of programmable features. It came with two batteries, a skylight filter, and a 32GB memory card (around 1200 photos at RAW setting), plus a neat little shoulder bag. Altogether a great value for a reasonable price!

Simply Amazing Video and Stills

Apr 2, 2015

This little gem produces sharper, cleaner video than my high dollar Pro cam and my Sony Alpha 77m2. It offers complete manual control of all parameters, full automatic, or any combination of both. You can also pre-program three modes with all your prefered parameters. Depth of field is deep enough to provide soft backgrounds but not so deep that only parts of a face are in focus during close ups. It provides amazingly clean video in low light, and even better stills in light where it's difficult to see with your eyes. For video, it's better than most DSLRs. For stills, it's a close match.

Nice camera

May 19, 2014

Very nice. Solid upgrade to the NEX6. More precise highlight focus aid feature implementation when using Leica/Zeiss glass. Grip is slightly more robust than NEX. Makes the camera feel more substantial in hand without actually making the camera significantly bigger. Menu system is like A7--much more to my liking than the NEX6 menu. IQ is very nice. Very pleased so far. Fast focuser for mirrorless; however, it hunts in lower light where my EOS system would not have had any trouble. But, it is much easier on the back and neck than carrying an EOS system. Pairs nicely with the 16-70 zeiss.

Beautiful pictures and a solid feel!

May 27, 2014

Bought this camera to use on safari in Africa. My wife and I are amateur enthusiasts and decided agains lugging a DSLR on a ten day hiking safari. The size is perfect and the feature sets match our needs. The menus are easy to get around the body feels really good in hand. The included lens is solid and will work well as a walk-around lens that requires little thought. I really like the view finder, it makes me feel closer to the shot. Images are stunning and image type option including RAW are stellar. -1 star for not including the external charger and having only one memory card slot.

Great travel camera !

Aug 31, 2014

This little camera is a dream to use when on vacation with friends and family ! You can use it as a point and shoot, or get more creative with it with manual settings. I bought it because it's lightweight, and I've found that I don't take as many photos when I'm out and about as I used to because I don't want to bring along the Canon 5D MarkIII with the 28-300 lens. WAY too heavy. So this is my solution. I'm waiting for Sony to come out with a lens that zooms from wide angle to super telephoto. maybe 10 to 200, (this is a crop sensor), but for now, for what I'm using it for, I'm happy !

MY 2ND A6000

Dec 8, 2017

Bought this one to mount a Sigma 150-600 Sport and Sigma MC-11 in Canon EF to shoot BIF and wildlife in general. I bought my 1st A6000 about 18 months ago so I can also have a couple different lens handy when not using the Sport lens. I'm no techie and was able to figure out this camera relatively quick. It has great features, is light making for a good hiking/walk around camera. Does what I need it to do and battery life is great. I do not have issue with anything about this camera. For the money and features, the A6000 is a great camera for those looking to step up from the P&S game.

The Ying and Yang of it!

Jul 18, 2014

First off when I went to the support website everytime I clicked on download it would return to the same page, So I don't have the software or firmware updrades, and the manuel was a short version instruction manuel of 48 pages. I found the Sony English website had a larger 209 page manuel un available on Sony USA. I like the camera, but it didn't come with a shoe cover that I thought was tacky. The complexity of options, and lack of in depth descriptions of their utilization has me still experimenting rather than shooting productively. In short, great camera (so far) and poor support!

Amazing Lightweight Camera

Jun 14, 2014

I am not a professional photographer. I picked up this camera to use as a hobby. The camera has amazing Auto Focus! With the stock kit lens and good lighting I am able to get 98% of the photos in focus. This was extremely useful photographing for a kids birthday party. The problem with this camera is that there is not a lot of E-mount lens available, and the ones are not really that fast F Stop Speaking. If I knew better I would have gotten an NEX 6 or 7 for cheap and just gotten a Metabones Speed Adapter to Canon FD lenses or Micro 4/3rds. The cameras use the same sensor as the A6000

Worth every penny

Jan 10, 2016

I have owned both Canon and Nikon DSLR's, and this was to replace my point and shoot. I just wanted something small to carry around and take decent photos with. Well, WOW! This does more than take decent pictures. The quality is amazing, this camera would probably make me think replacing my DSLR if not for the limited zoom range in Emount lenses. I am getting amazing quality on handheld night shots at ISO3200! The menu system was quick to learn and this camera is so light you almost forget you have it with you. Makes me wish I had this camera earlier than when I finally bought it.

Perfect for learning!

Jun 21, 2014

This is a really great camera to learn more about photography. It is light and small enough that it doesn't require an entire backpack, produces great results even for an intermediate amateur, and has all the necessary controls to learn about advanced photography features. My favorite characteristic is the focus peaking, allowing the combination with legacy lenses, for an affordable introduction to fixed-width photography. Because, let's face it, shelling out $ for a single lens is very expensive when you're not sure you have the skills required to actually get the most out of it.

Great camera for the amatuer photographer!

Jun 5, 2015

After a lot of research, I decided to purchase the Sony A6000 because it is compact, light-weight, and it takes outstanding photographs. For the size and weight, this camera will be great for me to take on backpacking trips. The battery life can be quite short if your taking a bunch of photos, so I would recommend purchasing at least one (1) extra battery for this camera. I also purchased the Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS Alpha E-mount Prime Lens to accompany this camera and it is fantastic! The picture quality with this combination is outstanding! I highly recommend this camera.

Great Camera Package Except........

Nov 14, 2017

Still learning all the features of the A6000 which exceeds my expectations but you do need an advance course to harness all of its capabilities. The manual provided, if you can call it that, does not come close to explaining the features or operation of the camera. And Sony does not have a manual online. If you're doing anything more than point-and-shoot, you'll need to invest in a guide book. My only other criticism of the package (A6000 body,2 lenses, and accessory kit) is the camera bag. You can't fit everything in it and if you buy any other accessories, forget it.

Great camera!

Sep 1, 2015

I was choosing between the A6000 and X-T10. My main purpose of buying a camera was for family pictures and capturing the moments of my kid growing up. It was definitely a tough decision as I like the controls of the X-T10 and the JPEG output. However it really came down to ergonomics. For the A6000, my wife and I could take photos with one hand. Also she felt the Sony was easier for her to use. So that ultimately was the defining factor. You can't go wrong with either, but the A6000 has been a great camera and we are very happy with the RAW files, which we edit in LR.

Wonderful Product

Sep 11, 2014

While I am new to photography, I have studied hard. I do both photos and video. I started out with a Canon 70D and it was a great camera. But for Video outside I found it to clunky when switching between Photo and Video. Now the A6000 Fixed that. I can change Mode, and setting on the fly. I loved the OLED viewfinder. Finally I can shot in Bright light and see what I am videoing. The video quality and photo exceed my Canon 70D. The only thing I am missing is that I must be good cause I have a big camera. This camera is small. The more I shot with it the more I love it.

Wonderful

Jul 17, 2014

Having previously owned a Nex-5N, I really enjoy this camera. The extra customizable buttons are a godsend, and the EVF makes composing shots a lot better. I almost think the screen on the A6000 is harder to see in daylight than the 5N is. The autofocus speed is crazy fast, and very accurate. The extra megapixels are much appreciated. For whatever reason some buttons can be customized for certain things while others can not. A little annoying but nothing too bad. I'm a little disappointed that the new BIONZ X processor doesn't process images faster than the old one.

Good photos but terrible battery life

May 21, 2015

This could be a 5 star camera, but you only get a few minutes of video or 90 photos. My Canon gats about 1000. You don't get a battery charger which makes it worse. It takes 5 hours to charge the battery. I've ordered a battery charger for the camera, which lets you charge a battery while you are taking photos, otherwise the camera is sidelined while you charge the battery by plugging in the power supply into the camera. It takes 5 hours to charge the battery. I would recommend the camera if you don't take lots of photos or willing to accept the short battery life.

Cool

Feb 19, 2015

I did a lot of research on the camera and I'm glad I did. I was looking for a qualty travel size camera with a viewfinder, larger sensor, metal body and a cool appearance. I'm an artist and need the amera for a variety of things, from copy work to personal artistic shots. I loved the full frame Sony's but upon review, it was overkill for my needs and this camera seems to have everything the much more expensive Sonys do with a considearable diffrence in price. It's cool, I'm happy. One small problem, it is hard to extract the SD card. Not enough room to grab it.

Excellent broadcast video with 2.0 upgrade

Aug 11, 2015

Went on a German site and upgraded to 2.0 firmware to shoot video in XAVC. Bottom line, I just shot beauties, billboard shots, weigh ins and fighter B-Roll for Network MMA fight. Just added a good camera light and video looked great and cut with much higher priced video gear. Stills are better than ever with the upgrade. I used the Sony 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 zoom and Sigma 60mm prime. Sharp and accurate color reproduction. Best bang for the buck if you want both good stills and video. Compares very favorably with the RX10 I had for video and shoots better stills.

Inital Impressions are Great!

May 11, 2014

I bought this in a kit with the Sony Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70mm f/4 ZA OSS Lens and they work great together. I got it a week ago and took some still photos, a panorama and a video. The camera had no trouble with this lens so far. It autofocused fast, even with the panorama where it sounded like it use the burst shots of 11fps. The low light pictures had good focus, especially focusing on so many different things in each shot. The movie was also impressive with its high resolution 1080p images. I'm very happy with it, but still have a lot to explore with it.

Fast and light

May 21, 2014

I love this camera because of the super fast auto focus and fps capability. It's much lighter than my dslr also. I love the fact that all of my e-mount lens used on my sony video cam are interchangeable. This cuts down the amount of gear that I have to lug around dramatically. The video quality is great but the audio is limited. 2 improvements that are desperately needed to give this camera 5 stars are a 3.5 mm audio connection and a change of location for the video record button. The button is in an awkward spot. For the price this camera is great though.

Sony A6000 a great camera

Dec 30, 2014

I bought this to replace a Canon EOS M, a nice camera with a slow autofocus. I have become a confirmed mirrorless camera user, as I think these are fast approaching the sophistication of DSLR's. Sony advertises the A6000 as having the fastest autofocus, and it is very fast. I can get good shots of active kittens with this camera. The built-in flash is a nice touch as well. Controls are well-placed and I like the extra wheel. Picture quality is good (I shoot raw, so I can adjust where necessary). I do miss having a touchscreen, but that's about it for cons.

Great so far and caters to all users

Dec 16, 2016

Have only had this for about 2 weeks but so far everything is working well! Pros: For the price, it's a great deal for a beginner mirrorless camera that has a lot of customization options that I'm sure I'll get more into as I get more into it - caters to seemingly all skill levels and progress. Interchangeable lenses - the option is always good to have as emount and mirrorless become more prevalent in the market Small and compact compared to a full-sized DSLR Cons: Nothing so far really. The EVF can probably be better but it's far from being a deal breaker

Best camera for the price

Sep 29, 2014

The Sony a6000 features an APS-C with a standard 16-50 mm power zoom lens, which is great if you are like me and just beginning photography. There are numerous settings, it's easy to use, and has an adjustable LCD for taking pictures at different angels. The pop up flash allows night photography with crystal clear pictures. There's also a wifi setting that allows you to wirelessly transfer your photos to your device. Overall I think this is a great camera or the price, but if you want to do professional photography you should invest in a full frame camera.
