Compared to full frame lenses of the same type this is very light , very sharp and easy to hand hold.

Outstanding portrait/tele zoom

Aug 6, 2016

10 yr ago I bought a 70-200/2.8L IS and I loved it and used the hell out of it; a month ago I bought one of these. There really is no comparison. This lens is cheaper and meanwhile better in every regard. I'm sure the 70-200/2.8L IS II is a vastly sharper lens than the original, but it costs almost twice as much. And the build quality of this lens is terrific, Leica-like. If you don't need every last bit of full frame DoF and/or resolution, and y... Show More

Great lens

Aug 4, 2016

I bought this lens to use with the MC-14 teleconverter. I am using it for bird photography. I have the M.Zuiko ED 300 F/4.0 PRO lens also, but I have some trouble using it handheld since it is much heavier. I am only 5/4 tall and a senior female, so I like this lens combination. I use the Me-Foto tripod which is very light, but sturdy with this camera combination. I have enjoyed using it. Because of the image stabilizer in the camera, I can use it handheld when I try to capture a bird in flight. Well worth the money. I am looking forward to taking it out on more outings.

New To 4/3, And I'm Impressed!

Mar 30, 2016

I was so disappointed with the poorly constructed and soft-focused 4.5-5.6 40-150mm Zuiko that I actually was beginning to question Olympus lenses. No worries, however, as this glass is FIVE STARS! Pro quality construction and tack sharp. See below for images. Yes, It is large and heavy for a 4/3 lens, but compared to a Canon full frame, it is still quite small. This lens takes advantage of the new firmware on the EM-1. Focus stacking. YAY!

Excellent Lens

Mar 28, 2016

This lens fits my needs well. I shoot with 2 kits: a full frame Nikon D610 and a micro-four-thirds Olympus OM-D E-M5. There are many situations where my Nikon with a 70-200mm f/2.8 is my go-to kit, but there's a price to pay in weight and size. I've found a lot of situations where I really want a small kit. For that, my Olympus with this 40-150mm f/2.8 works extremely well. This lens compares very well in sharpness and light transmission, and for what it does, it is surprisingly light and small. If you're thinking about getting this lens, I would highly recommend it.

Excellence from Olympus

Combined with the new stabilizing features of the Em1 this lens is superb and can be used hand held in many situations where other equipment fails. Good for wildlife which is the way I use it.

Glass Matters

Mar 7, 2016

I have/will use the 40-150mm Pro when shooting wildlife, flowers, nautical, seascapes, people, professional fishermen landing a bright salmon, etc. The weight and build of this lens is great. Those not knowing anything about photography are impressed with its looks...those well-versed in photography are more impressed. I have several Olympus/Panasonic fast lens...I consider this my best. For me...it is expensive...but worth it. PS: Typically, I don't write reviews...but I read them...

On the omde 1 a perfect fit, not to heavy , clear sharp pics and useful features ,such as the pull back lense hood, oly keeps coming up with new better than the big guys ideas, and this is a prime example of a top quality well designed product, expensive ? Not if you consider the equivalent lenses and their price points.

Excellent Lens on GH4 in Right Situation

Jan 31, 2016

Everything depends on situation and context. I heavily debated between the Lumix 35-100 2.8 and the Olympus 40-150 2.8. Both are great lenses, but in the end, the Olympus was the right choice for me. For myself it really came down to which was more important, the longer reach (esp. with the teleconverter) of the Olympus vs. having stabilization in the Panasonic Lumix. I purchased them both and shot them side by side. In the end, I returned the Lu... Show More

Great Pro Zoom

Jan 24, 2016

Big for MFT but only way to get 2.8 with this zoom range. Would have preferred 150/2.8 Pro to go with my prime lenses, but Olympus doesn't make one. This is a pretty good substitute and a must have for zoom fans.

Excellent lens

Jan 21, 2016

I bought the 40-150 to replace my 4/3 50-200 which does not focus all that well with the E-M1. The 40-150 is what I expected. Compact (does not extend when zooming) reasonable weight and amazing IQ. The pictures look almost too sharp! The zooming action is greatly improved compared to the 50-200 and focusing is both fast and very accurate. Contrast is also very high. I noticed two negatives: Not always but in some conditions, the bokeh looks busy... Show More

A Super Lens

Jan 18, 2016

This is the nicest lens I have owned. Although larger and heavier than any other m43 lenses I have, compared with the Canon lenses I used to own it is light and compact. It is easily used hand-held, and on the E-M! I have no trouble holding it with one hand. I wish that it focussed just a bit closer, but it's still pretty good. The ficus and zoom rings are silky smooth. It's just a great lens.

Wonderful lens

Jan 17, 2016

Because I am old school some people may relate to being outside playing and having the best time you have ever had...and then your mother calls you in for dinner. This lens is like that. Right out of the box I loved this lens. I own several other Olympus Micro 4/3 lenses (12-40 pro/75mm 1.8/7-14mm pro/ and the 14-150). This is now my go to lens. The integrated lens shade and the internal focusing is a high point. No need like my Canon lenses to r... Show More

Just Buy It!

Jan 10, 2016

This lens is a perfect companion to the 12-40 f.2.8 Pro Lens. My kit consists of the OM-D E-M1, the 12-40, this 40-150, the 17mm f/1.8, the 60mm f/2,8 Macro and the fish eye body cap lens. All Bases Covered. The focus stacking feature enabled by the 4.0 firmware release for the M1 provides remarkable results for macro subjects with this Lens as well as the 12-40 pro lens and the 60mm macro. If the cost of the 40-150 Lens keeps you on the fence, jump off and buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Solid Lens, very happy with it!

Jan 8, 2016

Bought this lens online & over-nighted it in for a last minute shoot. I'm very pleased with the results! This glass is what the canon 70-200 II 2.8 is for the 5dIII but for much less money w/ M43 on my GH-4. Great shots, solid focus and feels very durable.

I can't image ever letting go of this lens

Jul 31, 2015

I bought this lens for San-Diego Comic-Con because I knew I would be taking some REALLY long shots. I gotta say, this lens, coupled with my Sigma 18-35 (plus metabones speedbooster) on my GH4 are the ONLY lenses I will ever take with me anymore for professional shooting. Focusing is FAST, the lens is weathersealed, they have a REALLY great telescoping design for the lens-hood that extends and collapses as needed without ever having to take it off... Show More

Well worth the expense

Jun 30, 2015

Picked this up on a whim as I was in NYC for the Pride Parade. I'm so glad I did as the lens was fantastic out-of-the-box. I never ip used my 12-40; there were only a few times the marchers were too close and I wished I had the 12-40 on. Echo all the other comments that while it is bulkier than other lenses, still nowhere near my D3s and 70-200f2.8 II. In fact, the closer focusing range on the Oly was great to have. Excellent Companion for the M-1

Jun 21, 2015

Yes, this lens is heavy and expensive for a m4/3 lens, but consider the alternatives: it's half the weight and cost of the pro lenses from Canon & Nikon. Along with the 12-40 f2.8 it gives the M-1's sensor all the data it can use. Very consistent output throughout the zoom and f-stop range with just the slightest edge softness at f2.8/40mm. Fast focusing by itself and with the 1/4 telextender. The only negative I can think of is that its size necessitated the purchase of a new sing bag to cary it.
