Sharp lens, fast auto focus
I've been quite reluctant to switch from zoom lenses to primes, although I've read that primes a crispier and sharper. The time has come. 45mm f/1.8 Lens was my first prime. And what a difference in the image quality it makes! I've set up a side by side test of this wonderful 45mm prime with another Olympus pro zoom: Olympus Zuiko Digital 12-60mm 2.8-4.0 set at the same focal length of 45mm. I compared them at apertures 4.0, 5.6, 8.0, 11, 16 and ... Show More

Big value in little package.
This is a pretty great lens for the price point. Sure the product itself is made of plastic, and feel slightly cheap in the hand. But when it's on the camera (my GH3) the reduced weight is a good selling point. I kinda forget it's there. I don't think it's quite as sharp as I had anticipated wide open, but still does quite well. Autofocus is quick and very very quiet. Doesn't focus quite as fast as my 25mm panasonic/leica but is plenty fast to ca... Show More

Nice long FL, light weight, small
This is a great lens for that little bit of extra reach. It is small and light and easy to use. Wish it had Aperture controls on it but this does not seem to be an M43 thing, other than that I like this very much, very sturdy lens.

An M43 Must Have
This lens is a must have if you have a M43 camera. It is very sharp, even at f1.8. Overall, it is at least as sharp as my Canon L lenes. It focuses very fast, and has a very nice bokeh. At last, I can get a nice, short depth of field that I have not been able to get with the Oly kit lens or my Canon kit lens. This has been my go to lens of late. The only time I haven't used it is when I knew I would be in a confined area and needed somthing wider. It is light, well made, and even smaller than the kit lens. However, it is a tight fit on the camera.

Superb Portrait Lens
Great optical performance from this lightweight and compact Portrait Lens. Very sharp and nice and fast. Great match fro the Olympus OMD-E-M5 or EM-1. My favorite prime lens. Highly rated and would recommend.

Inexpensive Portrait Lens for m4/3s
I use this lens to replace the Canon 50mm/1.8 I was using on a crop sensor body. Similar effective focal length and depth of field. Build quality is excellent, even if it is plastic. Fast focus, great image quality. I do wish it had the manual focus ring that the 12mm and 17mm have.

The short telephoto for m4/3
If there are people in your lives that you want to take pictures of, then do yourself a favor and buy this lens It's small, focuses fast, relatively affordable and at F1.8 and with the thicker depth of field inherent in m4/3, you can get people's faces all in focus. The biggest downfall for this lens is that it doesn't come with a hood, you have to buy it separately. And because you'll probably use this lens outdoors, you'll want and buy that lens hood as well which increases the price

Fantastic Lens
Great in low light! I've been using it indoors at night for portraits and for sunrises. Great image quality. I love how fast it is to start up and shoot with compared to the kit lens. I'm using it on an Olympus E-PL5. Great combo!

Making changes
I purchased this lens in anticipation of the new OM-D E-M1 I pre-ordered. I am making the shift from full frame to the smaller, lighter, micro four thirds system. Sure is tiny, but clearly well made. Looking forward to the EM1!!!! I give this lens 5 stars without full testing it. Why? Because I have done exensive. Exhaustingly extensive research and have found this to be one of the GO TO lenses used by many well respected pros. My personal experi... Show More

Great short telephoto for m4/3
A great combo with the Olympus 17/1.8 or the Lumix G 20/1.7 Absolutely fantastic for candid or narrative portraits, the thick depth of field inherent in the small sensor size of micro four-thirds means you can absolutely shoot wide open and focus will be fast, accurate and focus will cover the entire faces of people The only thing I don't like about it is its skinny look! But who buys lenses for how they look like, we buy them for the images they can create. If you own a micro four thirds camera this lens is a must have!

OHHHH SOOO GOOD
great great lens. I was shocked on how small it really is in person. But wow what a lens. the size makes it even better. I shoot with the GH3 so I have to keep the shutter fast when shooting hand held but well worth it. I dont know why i kept waiting to purchase this lens. This is a must have for m4/3.The only complaint is it does not come with a lens hood or lens bag like panny lenses. I would rather pay an extra 30 to 50 dollars and get the hood and lens bag with the lens instead of ordering separate.

Amazingly sharp
I am a bit of a pixel peeper and this lens exceeded expectations. Seems sharper (informally) on my OM-D than my Canon EF 24-104 is at 90mm on my Canon 5D mark II!

Shallow DOF on-the-go
Very happy with this lens! I have it paired with a GF5, mostly to do portrait and product shots. I love the size. The whole setup is not much bigger than a P&S. I think of it as my m43 version of the Sigma DP3 Merril.

GET THIS LENS
If you have a micro 4/3 camera you need this lens. A great prime lens for portraits. Crazy fast focusing, super sharp, and beautiful bokeh (for a micro 4/3 lens) when shot wide open. Weather sealed and solidly built. Great value as well. Sometimes there is some slight color fringing but it's not bad and that is literally the only drawback I can think of.

Great lens
For me Mu 4/3 is about a compact, light weight system. This lens is tiny.... compared to 35mm equivalent, it easily fits in a shirt pocket. It is sharp, contrasty, focuses fast and the images are superb. It also focuses quite close.

Super sharp lens at an excellent price
What can I say, this lens is a great M43 lens to have, I can shoot wide open and photos are super sharp, works great indoors in low light or any other type of shooting situation. This lens and the Pan 20mm F1.7 are my two favorite lenses in my kit. For a lens this size, the optics are excellent, the build quality is better than some of my Nikon DSLR lenses. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS LENS!!!

my favorite lens
I have 3 lenses for my Panasonic GH3 and this is by far my favorite. The bokeh is beautiful, it focuses fast, and the image is super sharp and clear. This lens is a must have for anyone with a MFT cam. The focal length is also great for portraits and in particular video interviews because it allows you to give the subject some extra space with the 45mm, which is actually 90mm. Only negative is it doesn't come with a bag or lens hood, so they kind of cheat you on that (the lens hood they make is also costly, )

Simply outstanding
I use the M. Zuiko 45mm lens mounted on an Olympus OM-D E-M5. It is a very small lens - not a pancake, but still very small and very light. Quick to focus, no rattling. Nice bokeh. Good build quality for the price. Depth of field at f/1.8 quite shallow. Lens hood and pouch are not included but third party hoods are available at reasonable prices. I would recommend that a hood be used with this lens. Reliability and durability reportedly are good but I have not owned the lens long enough to judge.

excellent quick to focus, sharp
I just used this lens to photograph an outdoor music concert. It held up well. Clean images, and fast to achieve focus. A pleasure to use. (on the E-M5)

Wish I could've kept this lens!
I swear this lens makes photographs of people look better than with other lens. I understand this is at least in part due to the good bokeh. I had to return it only because it wasn't multifunctional enough for my budget, and I'd also purchased the OMD and a Lumix Vario wide angle lens at the same time. But I'll eventually buy it again when the budget allows.

An awesome prime lens !
Camera body used with this lens: Olympus epl-5Let me briefly share with you my experience so far (about 2-3 weeks now) with the 45mm f/1.8It is very effective creating those blurred, out of focus (Bokeh) image's. The lens is very quick and quiet. And because of the F/1.8, low light shooting is easier than say a f/3.2 for example. This may not be the ideal lens for shooting landscapes since it's almost a telephoto in a sense, but if you do use it ... Show More
