Believe the hype!

Dec 25, 2019

Etymotic is not a household name, but as an audiophile for many years, I have always heard great things about their products. I travel quite a bit by plane and wanted to try an in ear headphone, to reduce the fatigue of an over ear design. I compared these to Bose Quiet Control and Shure 535 and the Er4xrs were in another dimension. Absolutely stunning sound that fills your head with crisp accurate sound. Ive now worn them on two 5hr flights and can say they are very comfortable using the foam tips. I found the triple flanges small for me, ymmv. Highly recommended!

So far so good ...

Nov 16, 2018

First pair arrived with faulty cable-driver connection, was exchanged by B&H without issue. I just had those for ~2 weeks, so still experimenting. For my ears, the three flange tips work fine but also got some Comply compression foam tips to try. Noise insulation is fine, but have not tried them in challenging environment (airplane). Sound changes quite a bit with insertion level and precise position of IEM in ear canal. Frequency response is ple... Show More

incredible audiophile sound

Feb 20, 2018

I LOVE these headphones! I am using them with custom ear molds (worth every penny). They sound great just plugged into an iPhone, but if you want to get your full $ worth, I suggest lossless source files (Tidal or better) and a great DAC/AMP. I invested in a Chord Mojo to pair with these and could not be happier. I fly a lot for business, and my life just got a lot better...

Unique, spectacularly transparent, not for bass heads

Oct 29, 2017

I am not a big fan of IEMs, I prefer over the ears headphones but ER4SR are special. With proper sealing they sound spectacular, but the seal is absolutely critical. That means you have to be OK with triple flange ear tips going really deep into your ear. It does not bother me, I know people who do not like it, but I think this is the only way to listen to the ER4SR full potential. They need good amplification as well. I do not treat them as IEMs... Accurate sound reproduction for sound studio work

Oct 29, 2017

What do you want to do with these headphones? If you want to listen to the music while commuting or traveling DO NOT buy these. Buy its twin ER4XR where X stands for Enhanced and Extended Bass. I bought these because for my home video sound work I need a very accurate sound reproduction and I get this using these headphones.

Sugar-free sound

The transparency you get with this earphones is like nothing I've experienced before. I had the Audeze EL-8 CB + AudioQuest Drangofly Red 2.0 (connected to a laptop or to an iPhone 7) and I ended up selling it because, to my untrained ears, the sound was good but not great. I read this earphones are famous for their flat response. No flavors in here: at Etymotic they are obsessed with delivering to your ears what was originally recorded at the st... Show More

G.K

Jan 1, 2017

As usual Etymotic Research didn't disappoint with its flagship, clear response in all three frequencies, all in its place!. listening almost any genres of hi-res music on the go, at home... I'll not compare them with different gear but I will say having a not small experience with high and SE846--Astell&Kern AK T1p and a few more in ear-over the head headphones.. this model of etimotics is not to far in quality example... I love se846 for every d... Show More
