I was looking for a voice over microphone that could moonlight for acoustic guitar applications, and the RE27 really delivered. In the short time I've had it I've applied it in both scenarios with much success. For V.O. recording the sound quality is unmatched. This mic is extremely sensitive, which can be a pro or con depending on your application. If you're recording in a non-soundproofed environment, you might find yourself paying extra attention to environmental noises and isolation efforts - but it's well worth it to be able to pick up all the subtleties of a performance. As an instrument mic I set it about 3 feet away from the guitar, pointed at the sound hole. I was then able to play and sing and both were recorded with clarity and excellent tone and balance. I've had mixed results using a single microphone to record acoustic guitar and vocal simultaneously but the RE27 was perfect in this situation. A few minutes experimenting with placement and the roll off switches was all it took. Not all of my equipment can supply phantom power, so it's nice to have a top quality mic that doesn't require it. ... More

A colleague of mine loaned me a RE20 for a video project I was working on and loved the results we achieved for voice over recordings. I decided to purchase the RE27 thinking it was the latest and greatest from EV with upgrades and additional adjustment capabilities over the RE20. Although it had greater output, in my opinion, I found voice recordings not to be nearly as warm as the RE20. To my ears it has a tinnier shriller sound than the 20 even when rolling off the high end with the dip switch on the mic. I was disappointed and returned the mic. B&H promptly refunded my money. ... ... More

Dollar for dollar, you can't find a better broadcast mic. I've heard a number of cons about this or that, but in a pro studio, this is the mic for broadcast and voiceovers.

While I own several microphones they each serve a particular purpose. However when I'm looking for a bright sound I pull out my RE27. That along with the BSW pop filter I'm able to get close to them microphone without worries of any plosives affecting the sound. I have rather a deep voice and not much highs in it, and it does not have much travel to it. Basically people think I'm whispering to them when I am not. So bye using the RE27 it gives my voice that clarity and presence that I'm otherwise missing. That alone made this a no brainer option for my voice and usage. ... More

Great microphone with that radio sound. BTW, the "experts" at Guitar Center are wrong.....this mic does NOT require phantom power...

It's big, kinda ugly, and produces superb spoken audio (probably better than you actually need). A bit higher output than a Heil PR-40. It exudes quality (which is more than I can say for the EV matching shock mount).
