Very nice lens

Dec 27, 2013

I've been using this lens for about 500 frames. Very nice. Excellent contrast, color, microcontrast, boke, and 3d feel. I use it on a7.

Sharp and Compact Lens

Dec 27, 2013

This is a nice 35 mm prime complement to the Sony a7 or a7r system. It produces sharp images with a modest amount of bokeh at wider apertures. It is very lightweight and compact in size and will not weight down the mirror less unit; judging by Sony's choice to keep the largest aperture at a modest f 2.8. Yes its pricey for a 35 mm prime but you will not be disappointed on image quality - Wonderful for cityscapes, landscapes, group portraits etc. Sony states also that this lens is weather-sealed. A shame however that it lacks OSS (although this may also factor into the weight).

A little disappointing for a Zeiss lens

Dec 24, 2013

Light lens with super fast focus. For a Zeiss lens I was expecting something of better quality-it feels a bit like cheap plastic. In low light, the tonality isn't very smooth-it's slightly choppy. I've even noticed a bit of magenta banding. This lens also has a lot of vignetting.

Deserving of the Zeiss badge

Dec 20, 2013

Initially I was skeptical about the true value of this lens. Ordinarily a fan of fast lenses, I struggled with the price tag. It seemed steep even for a Zeiss... until I saw the results. This lens is absurdly sharp, even wide open. There is some distortion, but it's easily correctable (and personally I think it gives the images a little more character!) It delivers the usual Zeiss buttery-smooth bokeh. Even the most distracting background dissolv... Show More

Super sharp and Light.

Dec 20, 2013

Excellent Lens. Very sharp and superlight. Makes a perfect walk around Lens and the F2.8 still gives beautiful Bokeh. The only issue I have is the Lens Hood. It doesn't have a thread so it can't be used when you have a filter attached. Not a big problem but it is a niggle. Very happy with this Lens.

Incredibly sharp, awesome build quality.

Dec 16, 2013

I just got an A7R and I'm totally blow away how sharp this little lens is even shooting wide-open. I'm also amazed how tiny the front element is and still able to get to f2.8. In general this lens is absolutely tiny. I knew it was supposed to be small, but I was still blown away then I opened the box. Speaking of which the packaging for the both the A7R and the lens has a lot to be desired. I expecting a slightly more premium experience when payi... Show More

Excellent quality in a small package

Dec 13, 2013

My actual rating is around 4.5 and is based on my use with the Sony a7r. I like the overall image rendering of the lens. It's sharp but mostly smooth at the same time, with excellent contrast. The bokeh is variable as with most lenses, and is usually good wide open, although less so when stopped down greatly (aperture doesn't look perfectly round at f8 for one thing). Compared to the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 (at 2.8 to 11) with the Nikon D800E I used to ... Show More

GREAT FOR WHAT IT GIVES

Dec 11, 2013

There are various reports on colour shift that you basically can't really see unless you spend your life looking for that sort of thing as opposed to making photographs. My experience with the lens so far is that it checks all the boxes for it's intended purpose. It's small, light, sharp, optically impressive, good AF, reasonably well built and a perfect fit for both cameras. I love what Sony are doing across their whole line, the choices they're... Excellent lens for the A7r

Dec 11, 2013

This lens is lightweight and small and offers beautiful results. I found the lens to have a nice wide field of view plus it feels solid and gives a very nice edge to edge sharpness. I expected the lens to perform well on the street and it did so but I am also happy with some portrait photos of my family as well.

Very good lens

Dec 10, 2013

I bought this lens with the A7r and I could not be happier. The lens feels solid, and yields pretty sharp photos. The zeiss qulity is evident in its construction, and the size lends itself to being a carry around lens. I wish the lens was a little faster but it resolves wonderfully on the A7r.

Small, light, good optics

Dec 10, 2013

This is a very light lens that is specifically geared for use on the new Sony alpha cameras. It is fast to autofocus. I have used on my 36 megapixel Sony A7r camera. THe corners and edges are very sharp. I have not compared it directly with some of my other 35mm lenses like my nikon 35mm 1.4 (used on Sony with an adapter). HOwever this lens is so light that in combination with the new smaller Sony full frame 35mm format is a winning combination. ... Show More
