Great lens
I was torn between this and the Sony 70-200 f4. Actually bought both and for me, the 70-300 was the clear winner! Its incredibly sharp, the extra 100mm is perfect on my sony a6500 for wildlife shots and the close focusing makes macro shots easy and fun. Its a little heavier than I would like but I'm really loving this lens!

Super E-mount 70-300 Telephoto lens
Nice moderate Telephoto lens with acceptably fast lens and wonderful fit to the Sony E-mount cameras.

Fast, silent focus and sharp
I just received this lens a couple of days ago and have been testing it with my Sony a7R III camera. Held unmounted, the lens seems a little awkward and heavy, but mounted on the camera and handheld, it is quite comfortable and feels natural to me. On this camera, the lens acquires focus very fast, is totally silent, and has sharpness that far exceeds my expectations. The attached sample photos are unedited except for cropping. One of the BEST lenses for the A6500!
This lens is the sharpest I own for the Sony E-mount system. Compares very favorably to the 70-200 GM! Love that it shoots as a 105-450 on the A6500. Perfect for wildlife!

Great addition to my G quality lenses.
The FE 70-300mm gives me the range that I need for birds, wildlife, and auditorium long range shots at events. It is a bit slow, but with the stabilization and good noise handling of the camera, it gives good shots. I am using it on a Sony 6500. It is a bit large and heavy with the camera, but with my wrist strap it balances quite nicely. I have only had it a few weeks, and have not had much chance to use it, but I expect good results.

Very sharp lens
I bought this lens for use with an A6000. It is used alongside an 18-105 OSS G, which I can compare it with. They are used mainly for nature and sports. The 18-105 takes great photos, is very light and portable and has a constant 4.0 aperture, and a constant length (size); However, I find it is not sharp enough. The 70-300 takes really nice photos, top notch, and is very sharp, even at wider apertures and at 300 mm. It is light and day in compari... Show More

Sony 70-300 lens
This lens has the telephoto length I want, but is so heavy and bulky for my small hands, that I cannot hold it steady or turn the barrel easily. I will be working in non-tripod situations and won't be able to use it.

Nothing escapes this AF.
I'm loving this lens so far. With my a6300 the AF is crazy fast. The focus hold and focus limiter get used all the time, and I thought they would just be nice bonuses. Sure it would be an advantage to be able to open up to f/2.8, but low light shooting isn't why I bought this lens. For video shooters that like taking in far away subjects, this combined with Clear Image Zoom leaves little to be desired. I wish I had this along on my last trip!

Perfect balance: weight & quality
Feels perfect on my A7Rii - not too big, perfect for landscape shots. At F8 the sharpness is really great and even though the brokeh is not that great, the overall photo quality is very good. I have compared this lens to several other lenses and these are my results (just a quick test.. nothing really technical) - vs my Canon 70-200 F2.8 (v1)- the 70300 is definately sharper; specially if you stop down to F8 - versus Panasonic 100-300 on OM-D5; t... Couldn't be happier with this lens, provides all around flexibility for all kinds of situations. Have not experienced distortion on edges of frame when shooting at 300mm

No tripod mount
I could really like this lens and would give it a higher rating if it had a tripod mount. It's heavy weight requires me to aim higher when composing to overcome the tendency creep downward. It usually takes three or more tries to get the image centered. I also notice that the rear of the base of my a6000 tips up slightly even after everything is tightened very firmly. I don't think the camera with its non-metal frame was meant to stressed in this... Show More

Excellent Med Tele Zoom
I haven't taken a ton of shots since receiving the FE 70-300 G but so far so good. I had the 70-200 G f/4 but wanted the extra 100mm and like that the 70-300 is more compact. Both of the shots attached are at 300mm, one in the shadows at iso 3200 and the other in harsh light. Neither is ideal but like I said I haven't taken many shots yet but plan to over the next week or 2.

Took it with me on a trip, and I was very happy with the results. I even used it with video, and the results were great.

Great Product.
Bought this for my A7rii. Works great for both photo and video. Auto focus is smooth, face recognition works, picture detail is outstanding. Also love the range. Flipping to crop mode in-camera makes it a 450mm equivalent which is great in a pinch. I shoot a lot of video. I'm happy to say the this native lens has great autofocus, and stays on-target extremely well. I have not had the same success using adapters. This one is fantastic. The cost is high... but it does exactly what it claims. I would recommend.

great lens, well worth the upgrade!
I bought this as a step up over the 55-210 sony lens I was using or trying to use photographing birds , eagles mostly. I am very pleased with this lens, focus is much faster than the other lens. At 300 mm it gives me images that need much less cropping to none. Not much ca or lens flare that I can see, though directly into the sun will produce flare as it will with any lens. its not horrible though, It is a good sized lens and is somewhat heavy. ... Best and the only long lens option for Sony E mount
While the lens is not too heavy, it is the longest lens I could get without sacrificing quality, speed, weight and full functionality on my Nex-7. Auto focus, ease of manual focus, OSS allowing me to handhold at 1/60 and lower speeds are all the factors considered to get me the 105-450 range on my aps-c sensor with excellent quality. The price could have been more reasonable, but having no competition in its field and the fact that it delivers crisp resolution with accurate colors with great apochromatic corrections quality makes it worth it for me.

Meh. Not too thrilled.
I dont know, maybe I got a bad copy, but this lens really isn't all that sharp. The vignetting is so intense, and it almost feels like it has spotty blurs throughout the frame. I probably would have returned it if I'd figured that out before my 30 days was up. I might try sending it to Sony to see if it's defective. That being said, the video quality is really good with this lens on my A7RII. Handheld shots with the OSS turned on and stabilizatio... Show More

Sharp from 70-100, horrid beyond 200
Maybe I got a bad copy, but mine is garbage. Images are horribly spotty past 200, bummed I didn't notice this before my 30 days was up or I would have returned it. Even when stopped down, this thing isn't that sharp - ever. It just doesn't cut it for me. Mine is almost like there's little blur spots all over the lens when I shoot at 300. Not impressed, and pretty bummed overall. It is incredibly sharp at 70-100 however, and the OSS is amazing whe... Show More

Good lens for the price.
This is a good lens. However it does have a few issues. I used this lens an a Sony A6300 mostly. The zooming mechanism was too damped as to be stiff and hard to turn. This did not move when walking and hanging down with the lock off. The lens also used much more battery power. This lens is large and heavy. It dwarfs the camera. There is no tripod mount for the lens. This is a kind of scary feeling with such a lens on a tiny camera. The focus ring... Show More

Fits my needs perfectly (FS7)
First of all I have to mention the incredibly short delivery time with B&H. I'm living in Europe and couldn't believe the lens is already here today. (By the way: long live the free trade) I was looking for a flexible addition to my Cine Prime Set which goes from 16 - 85mm (24 - 125mm on S35). For small and flexible setups I already have the SELP18105G for the shorter end, which serves me well and works good on the FS7. Its AF speed is ok but not... Show More

Good for Sony
I switched to Sony mirrorless in the last year and have been very pleased, especially now that they are adding a broader array of quality lenses. This lens is very versatile and sharp. I will use it in many situations that I haven't been able to cover the way I want to. My only reservations are that it is a bit heavier than I expected and at least so far, moving up and down the mm range is a little balky. The barrel is tight. This will probably become smoother with use.
