Lots of Options

This is a great little camera that shoots hi-res images in camera raw. Good backup or pocket camera for advanced users, and also very suitable for point and shooters in automatic modes.

Decent but no cigar

Slow to focus, quirky menus. No wifi. Not responsive enough for me. Would have been a spectacular camera at a lower price.

The camera is used for street photography and family occasions where it is too cumbersome to take a SLR.

I use the camera for street photography. It is excellent for social events where you do not wish to be encumbered by a large camera.

Great

There's a lot to this camera, and most of it is buried in the menu, but once you spend the time, it saves your settings and there's nothing better in terms of picture quality for a camera this size.

Sony P&S RX100

Jul 5, 2013

The quality of the shots are more then acceptable. This is a superior point & shoot camera. The large sensor makes for very crisp and clear photos. If I could rate it 6 stars I would. Photos right out of the camera are excellent and with very little post processing they are beautiful. If you don't like this camera then you must be doing something wrong and can't operate it correctly. The battery life could be a little better so I recommend buying... Show More

Feature-Packed, Though Pricey

Jul 4, 2013

Solidly built (apart from the pop-up flash which feels like it could snap off if handled too roughly). Images are very sharp. Lots of flexibility in terms of settings, exposures, aperture control, white balance. Love that I can now take a shot with a point-and-shoot with a shallow depth of field. Amazing low light abilities. Very good video quality, though audio's lacking with built-in mic. (Sorry, no external mic input.) Overall, not for your av... Show More

Very Powerful, Yet Compact

Jun 26, 2013

I wouldn't say I'm a camera expert, but this little camera packs a lot of punches. I purchased it mainly for the size and the ability to shoot very good HD video along with stills. I'm sure there are tons of features I don't know about or will ever use.

A Fabulous Little Camera

Jun 25, 2013

I am an amateur, so I am just learning about the camera. This little thing carries a wallop. It's got a lot going on. The clarity of colors, light and shadows, and depth of field of the pictures is amazing. Have no complaints at all so far. Well, the flash is cute, but doesn't look too sturdy, so I will be careful not to put my fingers on the hatch before it pops up.

Best compact on the market

Jun 21, 2013

I have been traveling with the camera for the past 2 weeks and it has been all that I have read about it. The features are easy to find and work very well. The ring around the lense that allows you to select features is fantastic. Battery life is great and the quality of the photos has been amazing.

Love this tiny super fast camera!

Jun 19, 2013

A very fast lens, fast focusing and lightweight and small with a very sharp and bright LCD screen. I was hiking in Yosemite and could not do the rock climbing and trails I wanted with my big and heavy Nikon DSLR and lenses so opted for the Sony DSC RX100 and not disappointed. Yes, it is not a DSLR but allowed me to photograph all I wanted and the digital zoom is the best I have seen! Only wish it had a tilt swivel LCD monitor but then would be bigger.

Hard to believe how so many features and such great image quality can be packed into such a tiny camera. In case you are in doubt, let me assure you that it is worth its cost.

RX100 is as good as everyone says.

Jun 14, 2013

I bought this camera as a 2nd to an Olympus OM-D E-M5. It is intended as a carry all the time quick shooter. With the Sony jacket case it fits the bill 100%. Ok, so Sony didn't send an indepth user manual!! There is very good Sony HTML version on the web if you persevere in looking for it. DPReview might help find it.

Amazing

Jun 10, 2013

I currently shoot with a Canon 5D Mk11 with L series lenses so how could I possibly think that a point and shoot camera could produce great images. Wrong! I absolutely love this camera. In fact there are times I need to check the exif data of the image to see which camera I used. Yes, it is that good. I like the flexiblity to be able to shoot in manual and raw modes but the camera offers many other features to please the novice shooter or profess... Show More

Perfect take-everywhere camera

Jun 9, 2013

This is a beautiful little camera, especially useful for non-intrusive street photography. It takes beautiful images. My biggest complaint is that the instruction booklet it comes with is almost useless it is so small. You need to get a separate book to explain all of its glorious functions.

Great for Street Photography

Jun 6, 2013

My main camera is a Canon 5D Mark III. I also have a Sony NEX 5n and a Canon t4i. The image quality is not quite as good as the NEX 5n, but it's pretty darn close. It's hard for me to compare with the t4i since I use L-glass with that and so its an unfair comparison.I bought this to replace my Canon S95, and boy am I glad I did. The image quality is clearly superior. The complaints about its slick finish are true, so getting an additional grip is... Show More

RX100 lens jammed w/in 5 days

Jun 2, 2013

Camera worked great for 5 days of moderate use until the lens froze in the extended position after taking an image in sweep panorama mode, rendering the camera inoperable. Found another report of a similar failure by googling Sony RX100 lens jammed. Perahps a design or manufacturing defect. Too bad, as otherwise very happy with the camera. But, based on this experience, I would have to purhase extended warranty to feel safe, which would add significant extra cost, and would not cover the camera beyond 2 or 3 years at most.

Camera selection is pretty subjective. It comes down to how comfortable you are with the camera OS, performance, features and feel. I did a lot of research before buying this camera. It came down to the RX100, the Panasonic LX7, or the Olympus XZ-2. The RX100 fit my needs. I really love this little camera. I did alot of research when trying to find a point and shoot camera that would give me the quality I was after, in a small size. My search ended with the Sony RX100. It is amazing what cameras can do in auto mode, but even more amazing when a camera has a fully customizable manual mode that lets the user control how they want to use the camera.
