Good for video

Jan 10, 2016

The best of this camera is the controll ring on the barrel, that permit a good adjustment of the zoom or manual focus in video recording. The drawback of this camera is the autofocus, previus have a Lumix FZ-70 that have a more confident working. This is more notoriusly on video, when adjust the zoom the image go to out of focus until stop zooming. Another drawback is the batery life, that last after half day of triping (my previous fz-70 last over one day).

FEATURE-PACKED MARVEL

Jan 4, 2016

i bought this camera to use when it was not practical to carry my big DSLR and carry ah assortment of bulky lenses. This is perfect for those times and amazingly like still having my DSLR along. It is surprising how maany of the same features of my a77II are included in this compact little body. The autofocus is blazing fast and the zoom range is incredible. It is also nice to have actual 55mm filter threads on the front of the lans The only shortcoming I have found is there is no way to turn the LCD around facing the body to protect the screen when not in use.

Superb bridge camera with a few caveats

Dec 31, 2015

I own two previous models in this series; the HX100V and HX200V. I bought the 400V mainly for the longer zoom range (1200 vs. 810mm). In fact, longer zoom range allowed me to disable the clear and digital zoom options. This camera is a much less expensive way to get the range I need when compared to purchasing a long zoom for my DSLR. I also find it much easier to take moon shots with this camera than with my DSLR, and the overall quality is just... Show More

upgraded to DSC-HX-400v

Dec 10, 2015

I own the older version DSC-HX1 Sony and have loved the camera for it's versatility and convenient size for traveling. After doing much research on bridge cameras I picked out the Sony older version for it's lens quality and telephoto ability. Howeever, I left my older camera out in the rain, and even after putting in a bag of rice, it never operated the same. So, I bought this latest model Sony bridge to take with me on my trip to India in just ... Show More

Disappointed

Dec 8, 2015

I purchased this camera because I was tired of missing subjects that were just too far away to capture with my 150-500mm. lens. I had high hopes for this little camera with it's 50x zoom. I was very disappointed by the slow, piddly focus. Regardless of the shooting and or focus mode, focus was extremely hard to obtain, often jumping from telephoto to wide angle. The focus wheel did not seem to work as it was supposed to. The few shots I managed t... Show More

Awesome Sony Camera

Sep 24, 2015

I use this camera as a substitute for my DSLR. Best travel camera ever. Love the clarity of the 50x Carl Zeiss lens, also the built in wi-fi. I find this camera an easy to use point-and-shoot. I upgraded from a Sony Cybershot DSC HX 300. I am very happy and satisfied with my new camera and have no complaints.

What a high quality bridge digital camera

Sep 24, 2015

I use this camera for nature walks. It out performs my Canon XTi rebel using a 55-200 canon lens as far as image clearity/quality. The zoom is awesome for capturing birds off some distance. There is a bit of learning curve when I want to do close-up macro shots but I finally achieved the results after two times out with camera. it's light to carry but feels robust in my hands. the only thing I don't like is I burn thru a battery in less then three hours out so I purchased a couple backups and now I'm good to go.

Use the DSC -400V instead of binoculars for birding

Aug 7, 2015

I often ride a bicycle on the many rails to trails available in our area. As a long time birder I can identify many by call and sight. Binoculars and a field guide are a big help for a good deal of in field sightings. This operation takes time to use and moreover are cumbersome to carry. With this camera on a belt one reaches in the case removes the 400V zooms in and takes a picture. You can check it out the details later and continue on your way . Unique photos of opportunity on many occasions are available to you in this one high quality and very versatile camera.

Great camera that meets or exceeds all expectations

Aug 6, 2015

I recently took this camera on a biking vacation to Prince Edward Island , Canada . This is a great travel camera: light weight with very versatile and sharp Zeiss lens with wide angle and phenomenal zoom capability. The panorama and video capability worked beautifully during vacation travel. The camera is intuitive to use but I would really appreciate a more complete printed owners manual: I guess I'm old school . I have also used the camera for... Show More

Two more pictures from my DSC HX 400V Sony

Jul 6, 2015

I photographed and processed the below two pictures after I sent my comments on my Sony DSC HX 400V camera. Both or these pictures are going to be entered in the Indiana State fare in August so I used Windows 8.1 to brush the background jet black, and used the vignetting to darken the edges of the leaves so the composition worked better. The pictures were shot with tripod at ISO 80. Color saturation was increased by using the camera's saturation ... Show More

overall great simple lightweight camera

May 26, 2015

This camera is easy to use, easy to carry around, and takes great photos and amazingly high quality videos. The only thing preventing me from giving this 5 stars is the viewfinder, which is basically unusable since it makes everything look so grainy. So you'll have to rely on the screen for taking pictures.
