Amazing Camera!

Jan 16, 2017

Although this camera gets some bashing for overheating issues, it's never overheated for me and I did an entire wedding with it. You can capture 2 sets of 30 mins at 4K (that's the longest stretch I used it for on a consistent basis). Sure it gets warm, but I had no issues. It did just find in 1080p too. The focus is amazingly fast and ISO is top notch as well. If you need quick focusing and good low light, this little camera might do the trick.

Sony Alpha a6500 Mirrorless

Jan 14, 2017

All I can say is WOW! Coming from Canon 60D to this with the 18-200 LE lens. The pics are beautiful from near to far. Also added the 50mm f1.8 for portraits. I just realized what I have been missing all these years. I am just an excited amateur photographer with a new toy. The a6500 fits perfectly in the hand, has the right weight and balance. Although its expensive, the seamless experience in taking the pics and 4k videos definitely justifies th... Show More

It is a fair camera

Jan 14, 2017

I use this camera for videos. The things I like to most about this camera are the steadyshot and picture profiles. But Sony really need to work on their menu setting. It is too complicated and unlogic to users. Also overheat is concern. I can feel the body warm up pretty quick even not shooting 4K.

Great upgrade to the A6000 & A6300

Jan 14, 2017

I've beenshooting with the A7 & A7rII at the moment and shot with the Nex7 a few years ago along with the Olympus Epl6 . The A6500 is a stellar performer. I'm using it with the manylenses I have for the full frame Sony's. I don't know where DXo and other reviewers are coming from when they say that the full frame lens don't work well with the A6500. I' just shot with the zeiss 16-35f4 and the sony 70-200 G lens, and have been getting some really ... Show More

Worth picking up

Jan 12, 2017

Really great grab and go camera. For me this camera was great to learn on as well as produce professional quality images and film. I have already got some gigs out of it. My only complaint is the LCD screen, it's nearly impossible to see in the daylight. Thankfully most of my work is low or controlled light so it doesn't affect me too much.

Moving from Nikon

Jan 11, 2017

I jumped from a Nikon 5300 for shooting YouTube and Facebook commercials. The biggest barrier was learning the new menus and functions compared to what I was used to using with Nikon. I use a power zoom lens for videography and a Zeiss lens for photography. Both work extremely well in low light situations. The camera is much smaller and more portable than even the smaller Nikon 5300. The Autofocus is a huge step up and the touch screen incorporat... Show More

I've only used this product a couple times so far but the quality is great. I haven't used a Sony camera before so I may be a bit biased, but from my brief experience, Sony has definitely hit the mark on quality, battery life and overall efficiency and ease of use. The lightweight design and the easy to navigate controls made this camera extremely comfortable to master in only a few hours. I feel I won't need a replacement or upgrade for a very long time.

Great camera

Jan 7, 2017

So far I'm delighted with the 6500. I also have the 6000 and can see a great improvement. I just had some issues getting the camera to recognize my sony lenses. I don't know what I did to fix it but all is well now.

A Masterpiece

This camera is awesome. This is my first experience with a Sony camera and it all that and then some. It takes some getting used to a new system but once you get a hang of it, it's smooth sailing.

Excellent Value

Jan 5, 2017

I am running a Metabones speed booster on this camera. In the Green mode on the Metabones the camera performs well on stills. The updated firmware mode on the Metabones unlocks more of the video capabilities, but is poor on stills. I like the image quality of both video and stills on this camera. For the money it is a great value and takes a color grade well. As has been stated the menu layout is poor, so 4 stars.

A bit early to evaluate

Jan 5, 2017

I have played around with the camera and two lenses some but the A6500 has a big learning curve and I am close to the bottom of the ladder. So far, as I have worked through the menu options, with help of Utube and the online manual, aided by my considerable pre-purchase research on mirrorless cameras. I am pretty sure that once I really learn the camera and graduate to the GM series lenses, I am going to be rating the system A6500 system 5 stars.... Show More

A great upgrade from the A6000.

Jan 4, 2017

Very happy with this little beast. I don't do video so can't comment on the video qualities. It seems sturdier and yet just as compact as the A6000. Love the IBIS and the image quality is wonderful. Not really concerned with the reduced battery live over the A6000 as I always carry spares anyway. I'm a happy camper.

Small Cam Big Results

Bought this camera for the video capabilities and its compact size. I use the 16mm pancake with it and am impressed so far. I shot a few stills just for fun and am especially impressed with Sony's color palette. I am a staunch Nikon user for my stills (700, 750) but this little camera did exceptionally well! So far, the video quality is great. I have read the reviews on its limitations and other issues and use the video functions within the camer... Show More

Jan 3, 2017

This model has many features I looked forward to having...better low light, better seal, better stability. Easier ergonomically However, the 410 page manual is cumbersome and poorly written, more so than the manuals for the NEX 7 and RX100. There is new vocabulary without definition. As best as I can tell there is no table of contents or index. So many of the nice features of the focus mechanisms are interdependent that the learning curve is much slower than other models.

MOST VERSATILE/PORTABLE 4K CAMERA ON THE MARKET!

Jan 3, 2017

The a6500 is a near-perfect camera for the price in the 4k market. The colors have improved greatly since the a6300, which is great for us that don't like Sony colors. The IBIS works perfect and makes all my non-IS lenses stabilized. It's not perfect, but it's a HUGE advantage.

I have owned the Sony NEX-7 since 2012. I have always been impressed with the quality of the images, lenses and accessories. I am a photographer; I do not use the video on any of my cameras. Inside, without flash, the NEX-7 is slow to lock on focus. With the delay, the sought after image is often lost. I often compare this body to my Canon 5DIII, which is quite a bit faster.
