This is a highly regarded lens by pros.
This lens was purchased with my A850 Full Frame Camera. I also use it with my A700. The fact that it was design for use with the A850 indicates that it is a good lens as the A850/A900 cameras require the best lenses. They use the full cone of light from the lens , whereas the APS-C cameras use the sweet spot only, and cut off the less sharp edges present in many lesser lenses. I can assure everyone that the reviewer who stated that AF does not wo... Show More

Impressive initial experience: An outstanding lens.
I received this open box lens from a different vendor than B & H (my favorite). My initial impressions are as follows. I bought it as a walk around lens and I am in not in any way disappointed. This is a compromise when compared with my a mount f2.8 SAL2470Z2, but it will easily do 90-95% of what the 2470 will do in the real world st 40% the cost. It is lighter and far more compact. Yes, you can peep a few more pixels using the big lens; but, I c... Show More

Should be in Sony's G-series
This is a great lens: nice and sharp even at f/2.8, and providing a very useful range of focal lengths for my Sony a55, from 42 to 112.5mm equivalent -- and all at f/2.8. Great for portraits, small groups at parties, and even kids' sports from the sidelines. It's somewhat heavy, as you'd expect, but not uncomfortably so, and if you support the lens with your left hand as you shoot (which you always ought to do with a lens of any such size) it and... Excellent alternative to the 24-70CZ
After months of research on a lens within 24-70mm range at f2.8, I finally made my decision to buy this SAL-2875. Ofcourse, I would like to have the 24-70CZ but its beyond my budget and twice as much as this lens. I am still in the process of testing this lens and it did not disappoint. It is sharp at any focal length and at any aperture. The colors and bokeh are excellent just like my Sony 70-300G. I read one review that it is soft at 75mm f2.8 ... Show More

Great lens
Pros - -- very sharp even at 200% Mag in the center. corners are decent wide open and sharpen up nicely when stopped down. -- lighter and more portable than the 24-70 zeiss, not to mention cheaper! -- build quality is very decent. Cons -- would be nice if it was a bit wider, say to 24mm. I'm a serious hobbyist that enjoys having a light, yet fast walk around lens for the sony full frame cameras. this is it. though it is the same as the tamron optically, i feel the build is definitely superior.

Great lens value
I use this with my Sony A-900 to take pictures of collision sites, wrecked vehicles, and other objects and locations. This lens has excellent range and utility. It's a little smaller and lighter than some similar lenses (i.e., f/2.8 constant aperture) and provides for or allows getting shots where a slower lens would require a longer shutter speed, which is often not feasible for hand-held shots.

Good Glass
I bought this as an upgrade from my kit lens. The speed with zoom apealed to me. I photographed a friends dog yesterday, a hummingbird without wings. The speed got me some great shots. With the kit lens I would have had a blurr. It's heavy, takes a 67mm filters and it's kind of expensive. Worth every once and every penny

lens replaqcement
This lens is replacing a Sigma 24-70mm which proved to be totally unsatisfactory. I have shot aver 1000 pictures already and am quite pleased with its quality and performance. I was however surprised to find that it works well as a macro. Although not a true macro I have shot within a foot and received good results

solid lens
Used the lens for about 1000 photos on vacation in London. Overall, I'm very satisfied. Pics were clear and color was outstanding. seems to be well built, and looks like it will last. Focus is quick and quiet. Be aware of the weight. Only con is it sometimes had trouble finding focus in low light.

Somewhat Disappointing
I bought this lens with the intention of using it for inside pictures without flash. This kind of picture requires using the manual setting on my Sony A700. The (huge) drawback to doing this is that AF does not work in manual mode! What a waste of money.

best lens ever
I have used this lens on my new Sony A850....crystal clear, quiet, hardly hear or feel the drive action....my pictures came out sharp with no distortion......wish i could afford 75-300 of the same quality...

Great Little Lens.
Just an excellant all round lens which could have been made better if the focus was quite. When you pay $ for a lens, you do not expect to hear the lens focus noise. Nice compact lightweight design.

A good upgrade for my sony a55
I use this lens for photography and video. It is a great improvement from the lens that came with the camera originaly. It focuses fast and it's sharp. A bit pricey? Yes, but worth it.
