Great lens

Aug 18, 2014

Awesome lens for the new Lumix GX7 that I bought as a gift for my wife. This is the lens that you should buy for this camera. Good quality pictures. No complaints. Highly recommend.

Slow focus

Jun 22, 2014

This is a great lens for indoor photography. Nice small lens, good field of view, excellent construction and image quality is sharp. Unfortunately this lens focuses very slow. The Olympus Zuiko lenses all have blazing fast and silent focus. Not so with Panasonic. Something about the design, it hunt for focus with every shot. Even if you focus and lock in on the subject. If you refocus again it will bring it out of focus and lock in again. This is... Show More

Quality Purchase

Jun 13, 2014

I bought this lens as one of my start out lenses for my Panasonic GH4. For the price, I found this lens to be a perfect fast prime lens to start out with until I have the money to buy more expensive lenses. It is unbelievably tiny, very fast, and a solid focal length.

BRIGHT and CRISP

Connected to the GX7, this is fantastic street camera, fast and bright. Great in low light. I am new to the 4/3 format and loving the compact size of the pancake lenses.

Good but a tiny bit soft in the corners

May 19, 2014

This lens is light and quite bright. However, it is a tiny bit soft in the corners for my taste. Compared with Four-Third lenses 14-54 and 50mm fixed, this lens is somewhat less sharp in the corners. It is quite sharp in the center, even full open. So it is a great lens for portraiture, but not quite for low-light landscape photography.

an excellent fast pancake

May 12, 2014

I use the lens for video with GH4, and I would not mind having the option of image stabilization. Since it is functionally 40mm (2x crop on MFT)it is very useful everyday lens. Very light and small, and you can get very nice shallow depth of field at f 1.7

fantastic lens, good value.

May 10, 2014

I bought this lens to use on my omd em-5, specifically for travelling/tourism, replacing my 12-50mm kit lens. This lens is sharp and compresses well. I used mostly primes back with my D-SLRs and am happy to be back at it with this lens/body combo. not 5 stars due to it's slightly slow auto-focus. I found a few situations where it hunted a bit and is not too quick in it's search.

small with decent optics, but AF is slow

May 4, 2014

Optically, this lens is okay, but not really much different than other m43 prime lens with a similar focal length. However, this lens is very small (not that the others are large). By current standards, the autofocus on this lens is extremely slow, not unlike a macro lens. If you can live with slow AF this lens is okay. This lens is also noisy during operation. For general use where focus speed matters, the Olympus 17mm f1.8 and 25mm f1.8 lenses (I own both) are much better lenses.

Must have lens

Mar 23, 2014

This is a great lens for indoor shooting. Perfect for candid shots of friends and family in or out of doors. Fast enough for action shots and very, very clear. Another great thing is that it is so small and light. Perfect and a must have.

Outstanding Moderate Wide-Angle Lens

Mar 22, 2014

This is a first class lens for MFT users. I already own the fine Olympus 17mm F1.8 lens, and needed a second lens in this range for my wife's E-P5. In a back to back comparison using my E-M1 (tripod and self-timer), the Lumix lens is noticeably sharper throughout the range of f-stops, when viewed at 100% on screen. No chatter during focusing was noticed on either body. Perhaps the Lumix is a bit slower at focusing, but not significantly so. Panca... Show More

Excellent M43 Fast Prime

Feb 18, 2014

Picked this up at a steep discount when I bought by Lumix GX7 and am really glad I did. The lens seems very sharp with very little distortion. I'm super-please with it, and now understand why so many rave about this lens.

Nice lens for narrow depth of field

Jan 21, 2014

This is a really nice lens for narrow depth of field which is why I bought it. The f stop goes down to 1.7. Better than the original lens kit I purchased for my Lumix GH2. An added benefit turned out to be that it is very light and small so it is great for whipping out the camera for those quick shots. So, not as cumbersome as the longer 14-140 lens. The downside is of course, it has no zoom. But to get a shallow depth of field for a 4 thirds cam... Show More

fatally flawed for dark night photos

Jan 12, 2014

Recently bought a GM1. In many ways the 20mm f1.7 is the perfect lens for it. It keeps the size small and is a very flexible focal length. In most situations, the lens performs really well. However, in very low light, the 20mm f1.7 has a terrible flaw. Black areas of the photo will often show terrible bands/stripes. The issue is thoroughly discussed in many micro 4/3rds forums and can happen with many micro 4/3rds cameras. It doesn't always happe... Show More

Essential Lens

Dec 13, 2013

This was the first m43 lens I bought (version 1) to use with my GH2 and recently bought version II to go with my GX7. It is my most used lens and turns out to be an excellent all around lens. It is remarkably small and lightweight, has excellent optical properties and the focal length works for a wide range of subject matter. It is wide and fast enough to shoot indoors and works equally well outdoors where its rendering quality is marvelous. I am consistently surprised and happy with the results even after three years.

Good as the older 20mm + made of metal.

Nov 21, 2013

I have had 2 of the order 20mm in the past and they were great. After getting the new GX7 I realized I missed the 20mm so sold the kit lens ( very good lens ) in favor of the smaller silver 20mm. It matches the camera it makes the camera smaller and It will fit the leather case thats on my wish list.

I use this as a normal lens, I never used a 50mm when I shot film, I used a 35mm and this one is really perfect for me. The lens is small and light, I wish there were Aperture settings on the lens and that I would not have to do this in camera.
