Excellent technically, can improve human engineering feature
I am a knowledgeable amateur returning to photography ... portraits, scenic shots, travel photos. Recently purchased this camera to supplement a more capable Leica V-Lux Type 114 that I also bought. I am still trying to get familiar with the features. Overall I like it and feel great about the purchase. Seems like it is well crafted, suitable for the purpose.. I like its compact size and clean no frills design - great when traveling or in situati... Show More

Meets Expectations
The big attraction was the viewfinder (EVF) in this relatively compact long-zoom point&shoot camera. It accommodates a 30x zoom, which is unusually wide in range. Short experience so far shows really good performance for its small sensor size, and a large slate of useful features. A larger EV would have been nicer, but would have made the camera bigger. It is pocketable in bigger pockets.

Great all around camera
If you have room to take only one camera, this is the one to pack. It's all you need to archive your life experiences. Fast start up and focus. If you need to get a fast shot, this is the one to buy. Very happy with the purchase.

Perfect camera, perfect price
This is my second Panasonic Lumix and has more bang for the bucks than my older model. Still has the small, easy to handle size and easy to use and navigate options.

Good deal for the price
I have the requirement of shooting both video and stills in situations where I cannot take a larger camera. To be able to take stills while shooting 1080 video is a real plus. The electronic viewfinder's compact size makes all the difference when shooting outdoors in bright sunlight. It is clear enough and sharp enough to make it worthwhile. It took a while to figure out the operational control of the camera. Once it clicked in my poor old head I... Show More

Excellent Reach
I use this camera when I want to travel completely unencumbered...It fits just about anywhere and reaches (via a zoom to 720mm) everywhere....Terrific image quality, portability, and zoom make this a really ever ready camera.

Quality compact
The size and point and shoot Image of this camera doesn't do it the justice it deserves. I was looking for a pocket camera, but also wanted zoom and a quality lens and image. This camera fits the bill. I am impressed with the flexibility, the file quality and the automatic, creative and manual options. Great package for a geat price.

the best point and shoot camera i have ever owned or2 used

Very good compact camera, best on the market
I needed a compact camera that I could carry with me all the time. But it had to have a viewfinder because for the life of me I can't see how anyone can use a LCD screen on the back of a camera in bright sunlight. The ZS50 has a tiny but very sharp viewfinder, not the best but it works well outdoors. I have a couple other Panasonic cameras so the settings and menues were familiar and as with my other Panasonics I found I generally have to dial in... Show More

Update from my 8/13/2015 Review
I originally gave this camera an unduly harsh one-star review primarily because the icons on the main program control knob rubbed off after 2 weeks of fairly heavy use. Aside from this manufacturing flaw, the camera is very good at what it does for the price. The amazing 30X optical and 120X digital zoom coupled with the typical small sensor for this size camera does lead to degraded performance in low light situations. But that is simply a trade... Great point and shoot for the money
It's a great point and shoot for the money. Priced at the midrange, I was looking to upgrade from my previous point and shoots as I was not happy with existing photo quality. Not as good as the high end point and shoots, however for the money (half the price of high end point and shoots) - it does the job quite well. Very impressed with video quality, autofocus and stabilisation - better than video cameras in similar price range ( i have a panaso... Show More

Outdoor compact camera
It's great to carry around if you don't want to take a dslr with you for outdoors Shame there is tilt LCD screen and slow lens It worked fine outdoors but indoors without flash was aweful I don't know if any 30x point and shoot has a faster lens Recommend it for outdoor shooting I wanted the 30x and although Leica is a good lens sacrificed quality with such a slow lens

Lumix ZS50 is a great camera for travel and hiking
Although I use my Nikon D7100 for much work, I like to carry the Lumix ZS50 when traveling. It takes great video and the photos are excellent. I use various settings, depending on the image. The iA setting is better for longer telephoto. Using Photoshop, I get very good images.

Very good travel zoom with viewfinder
Very good 24-750mm lens. It's become my carry all the time camera. The EVF (electronic viewfinder) is very usable. The camera is small and light weight, but it appears to be well built. It's one of the few travel zooms with a VF, and I consider a VF to be a necessity. One complaint is the placement of the flash. It's very easy to cover the flash with a finger.

I would buy this camera for anyone and everyone
Took to Pro Football game which doesn't allow long lenses. Got in with no hassle at all and it captured every picture, as well as video, as well as 3 FPS action.Did not miss or be unable to capture a wide angle or long lens shot.Incredible and easy camera to carry and use all it's features as well as the amazing and phenomenal results. Get it even if you shoot larger format. I can carry it everyday.

Made my wife very happy
My wife asked me for a small, easy-to-use, camera with a great zoom range. This camera has delivered on all criteria. Her only unfulfilled wish was for 4K video. Now that she has seen 1080P at 60fps from this camera, she is very happy. The automatic features are very powerful and produce great photos. But the camera has a great deal of manual features to satisfy her creative needs. She loves the large depth of field provided by this sensor. I love the image stabilization.

Reactions to the new ZS50
Here are reactions to the new ZS50:Image Quality (IQ) You have to take into account that IQ varies with (1) lighting conditions, (2) the amount of zoom, (3) the size of the aperture, and (4) the distance that the subject is from the camera. There will be situations where you cannot get a decent photo no matter what you do. Consequently, I raise and lower my expectations and standards depending on the circumstances. Even with the Canon7D Mark ii w... Show More

Great pocket camera
The cell phone camera does not have a long telephoto and attachments you can buy to try to compensate for this are useless. Secondly getting the photo to your computer or tablet is cumbersome. At the same time, the camera you are going to use is the one you're carrying. This one, called a travel camera, has a 30x zoom, can transfer photos by WIFI or NFC (like Applepay) and has a gyroscope to steady your hand. It fits in my pocket and I carry it a... Show More

Should you upgrade from the Panasonic ZS40 to the ZS50?
Panasonic promised to improve their premiere travel camera's performance as well upgrade both the main and the eye level viewfinders. I wrote an extensive review on the features of the Panasonic ZS40 and most of that discussion still applies to the ZS50. Should you upgrade from the Panasonic ZS40 to the ZS50? After 1000's of shots with the ZS50, I was ready to compare it with the older ZS40. Unless specified, I set both cameras to the INTELLIGENT... Show More

Effortless travel camera
While I am not a fan of super zooms my wife loves this camera. For her it always produces a usable photo. Recently we spotted some Sand Hill Cranes. After stopping the car she just leaned out the window and got her shot. She is starting to make me look bad. Highlights of this camera; the lens is amazing, she said she didn't care about a view finder but now she's using it all the time, and because it shoots raw I am able to process her photos. This is a FIVE STAR camera.
