Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 Digital Camera with Memory Card Kit (Black)

My 5th Lumix and the most sophisticated so far.
This camera is nice middle ground between a up-scale point-and-shoot and a fixed-lens mega-zoom. It is definitely right-sized for travel. Love the camera so far and will give it serious trial in the next three weeks of travel. The view finder is on the far edge of usefulness due to small size, but better than none. I wish ZS100 had a plug-in port for a cabled remote shutter release for times when a smart phone is either not available or inappropr... Show More

Excellent Travel P&S
I really like this little camera. A quick listing of pros and cons: Pros: Really sharp for a small camera 4k videos are really nice Excellent results from a non-obtrusive camera Solid build, but not too heavy Zoom range is very practical for the size Cons: No articulating screen ( I really would like to have this!) Buttons are a little small and recessed (but I have big hands so it's not really Panasonics fault on this one) Wish the aperture went... Show More

Defective product with terrible service
I bought this camera in May and it immediately had problems: it would seize up when the zoom was extended..I foolishly thought this was a glitch that would correct with new firmware. Two days into my vacation in Europe it seized permanently and that was that! Since then it's been in service in Texas and it's now almost September and it's about to miss another trip...after it was fixed it was shipped to the wrong address (they didn't realize Canad... I'm happy in this new category
I have owned a number of superzoom cameras, but this time I asked for lots of advice. As a result, I moved sensor size, and RAW image access near the top of my list. I desired pocket size to the list, and could not give up on viewfinders. I considered all of the 1 sensor units on the market, and settled on the ZS100 with the agreement of my more experienced friends. I shot about 100 pics so far, and tweaked about 20 of them using RawTherapee, I a... Show More

So far so good
I've only had this for a few weeks now, but my impressions are positive so far. I bought this for the 10x zoom combined with the 1 inch sensor primarily. Other features that I ended up liking, though, were the touchscreen, which has been much more useful than I expected. This is the first camera I've owned with that feature, and it makes options so much more accessible than on cameras without it. My primary use is photography while on long bike r... Show More

The power of a DSLR in a small size
I participated in an Advocate Program on behalf of Panasonic USA. I received product samples as part of my participation. All opinions are my own. As a professional Travel Photographer, I always found it hard to carry a big DSLR at the same time that I'm engaging in outdoor activities so the Lumix ZS100 is an amazing option in my opinion because of its small size and great quality. Plus, this camera auto focuses during video making this camera th... Show More

Should be a great travel camera
Just got the camera a few days ago and learning about all the features (basic manual is 75 pages and advanced manual that you download is over 400 pages). It is replacing an older point and shoot, and I am very impressed so far. IQ is very good with the 1 sensor as is the zoom although Panasonic had to compromise with a slower lens vs other compact 1 sensor cameras with faster lens but less zoom. This is the perfect combination for me as a travel... Show More

Great high-tech pocketable camera with 10-power lens.
The ZS100 has a form factor very like the LX100 (which I also have), but the cameras are very different. The ZS100 sacrifices sensor size (1) and speed of lens (2.8-5.6) in order to support a 10-power lens (25-250 35mm equivalent). The LX100 has a 4/3's sensor and a truly phenomenal 1.7-2.8 lens, but ranges only from 25 to 75 mm (equivalent). I'm using the ZS100 for travel, and it is perfect for that, as it is pocketable. The lens on the LX100 pr... Show More

Good Compact with Advanced Feature
I primarily bought this as a back up to my Full Frame and Cropped sensor DSLRs and also for the places where carrying DSLRs is not practical or advisable such as the street photography. I have so far used it a few times since I bought and quite happy. I wanted something with bigger sensor (1 inch) and good amount of Optical zoom. I also then needed Compact that I can shoot in full manual mode and shoot RAW if I wish to. Finally I needed a camera ... Show More

Great camera in a small package.
I purchased this camera as a gift for my wife, who is primarily interested in scenic and family-oriented photography. That being said, I was also considering some of the smaller Leica digital units as I use Leica and have post-processing softwares, etc., that are somewhat optimized for that brand. Bottom line: this is a great little camera. I have used it on several occasions and, apart from the small buttons and less than in-depth documentation,... Show More

Can this thing take a good photo?
I realize I've only had this camera for 2 days but I have not been able to take a decent photo yet. I've had it on Intelligent Auto and on Aperture Mode and neither has produced any thing that a Kodak Instant camera wouldn't produce. Item: I set the ISO to 400 and the aperture to 8 in normal daylight and the shutter speed came out to 1/13. For 550.00 seems like "auto" mode would produce a decent photo on it's own. Although, to handhold this thi... Show More

Excellent Camera - Excellent Service
B&H Photo provided quick service and the best deal I could find for the DMC - ZS100. The Panasonic camera has exceeded my expectations during its first two weeks of use. The DMC-ZS100 gathers in light eliminating the need for flash in most lighting conditions. The lens picks up natural coloration and the anti-shake performance is exceptional. Being of the age of shaky hands, ordering the "REVB110B13" Hand Grip for Mid-Size Cameras (Black)" has en... Show More

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 digital camera
I got this for my wife for Christmas. She really likes it. The biggest thing going for it is the large sensor, which enables very good photos. (quality photos in a compact camera) ..and one feature I like is that you can use either the lcd screen or the view finder for taking photos. She goes for the screen and I the view finder. In taking photos outside in bright lighting, the view finder rules when the lcd screen is hard to see. Takes very good... Show More

I Bought the DMC-ZS100 just in time for back packing trip.My wife and I backpacked the Wonderland Trail circumventing Mt. Rainier. What an awesome place. Now I am at home and reliving every minute with terrific video and photos, about 1200 photos. This is my third Lumix. I love the great Zooms and low light features. Big features, small package
Im more than pleased with the ZS100. Handsome, gun metal gray and silver. Jacket pocket sized camera with a viewfinder to compose AND view your images if caught out in the bright sun. It zooms from 24mm to 250 (see uncropped photos), and the image stabilization is very good. Controls are easy to get to, menus not hard to use. Full manual and all the other modes. Pants pocket probably not, jacket pocket absolutely. Battery life is quite good, but ... Show More

Too complex menue
Sent this one back. The menu and manual were too obtuse to follow. I've been a pro photographer for over forty years and this confounded me. I just wanted a handy fun camera to keep on hand for enjoyment but it proved too overly complex. Ergonomically not great to hold either. Alot of camera in a small package but buttons are touchy. A point and shoot doesn't have to be dumbed down but it needn't be over loaded . I would love to consult on a vers... Show More

Great Camera
I have a Cannon Reflex with 200mm tele and I was looking for a new point & shoot camera (small, lighter and with similar features of my rflex). Very good but for me the rx100 iv won
I spent a lot of time with this camera and took the rx100 m4 along for the ride. The pros : Descent still image quality. Good slow motion Video at about 100 fps Post focus was cool. 4K burst was good at getting the shot but... Good zoom Cons: 4K burst produced blurry images for me most of the time. Image quality at zoom was just ok. I know what can you expect. Camera did not feel as solid as the Sony. No flip screen. Evf was a joke. Awfully. I wanted the zoom but I just loved holding the Sony and loved it's 1.8 image quality. Plus slow motion of 960fps was fun.

Surprisingly sharp
Its small and yes, to use it vertically gets a little clumsy, at least to me, lefthanded. Every other features are awesome, nice color, incredibly sharp until middle zoom, at full zoom its just ok but still above average. Does not have a lens cover to loose, this its wonderful but beware: if you put it in your front pocket of a jeans for example, be careful with other stuff in the same pocket, it may damage the curtain that closes the lens ( as I did with my Iphone but managed to fix it myself). It has tenths of features, takes a lifetime to learn them all.

A great travel alternative to my SLR
I really enjoy taking pictures on vacation. When we do car trips, I usually take my SLR with an assortment of lenses and accessories. For flights, I don't want to bring a lot of heavy gear and find this ZS100 to be a great alternative. The pictures are nearly of SLR quality and it has the flexibility to cover almost every shooting situation. All this in a really compact form factor. If you are willing to go a little bigger, then a Sony RX10 III or IV would be my next choice, but I wasn't willing to give up the small size and weight of this Panasonic.

Defective product - wont honor warranty
Bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband. One week into our vacation - the camera stopped working. Obviously still under warranty - so sent into the factory service center. They informed me that the unit had water damage that was not covered under warranty. I explained to them that I had never exposed the unit to water, and there was nothing I did that could have caused the damage, but they responded that they would be HAPPY to send me a new unit for $363.37 plus shipping and taxes ...... I will never buy another product from Panasonic again.

Travel Light
This small camera has so many features packed inside. Maybe too many for some, but for an experienced photographer welcome. I had a small compact from a few years ago that was really only decent for outdoors shooting. This one has a much better sensitivity to lower lighting. There is menu access to change iso easily. The small viewfinder is enough to compose through. I also like the built in wi-fi, makes transferring images to phone easy. The manual that comes with the camera isnt so good, but the online 400 page one is much better.

Love it so far!
I've only had the camera for about 10 days, so I'm just learning how to use it and the what all the features are. I am a very amateur photographer, so have not delved into a lot of the manual options. That said, there is a lot of control for an experienced photographer, as well as great pictures out of the gate on the automatic settings. Image quality is awesome. It connected easily to my MacBook Pro (wired or wireless) and my iPad (wireless). Bought it for the telephoto feature which was great at the Phillies-Braves game yesterday.
