Extremely sharp result
The manual focus override is a great idea, easy to use, with on the nose accuracy. Coupled with the MFT's ability to stabilize the shot, low light images at relatively low ISO as slow as 1/5 of a second are possible.

great things DO come in small packages
Using this for the Hockey playoffs - fast and lite lens not to mention a very maneuverable size as people are bumping into you, etc.

great all around lens
Got this for the new Oly OMD EM5 MKII, and it really goes well with the camera. Nice bokeh, great build and light.

Nearly perfect!
This lens is nearly perfect, the only flaw is that it is physically loooong at 40mm zoom, as to be a bit unwieldy.

Lightening fast focus.
I got this lens a few weeks ago as a gift from my wife. I began making photos immediately with my OM-D EM-1. I was very impressed with its lightening fast focus on most subjects. But, when I tried to focus on some colorful clouds during a sunset, (with some nearby silhouetted trees in the foreground) the lens kept trying to find focus, but couldn't, 30% of the time. I didn't expect that. So that's why I gave it four stars. Otherwise, it takes exc... Show More

Professional Quality
Solid construction and beautiful results. I ordered this as part of a bundle with the EM-5 MKII and I couldn't be happier. Coming from the Panasonic camp, I had a hard time deciding between this camera/lens combo vs the GH4/12-35 f2.8. I'm primarily a stills shooter so paying up for the video features of the Panasonic approach seemed a poor bargain. The lens produces images that have more presence than what I'm used to. Hard to put into words, bu... Show More

Olympus Delivers a Great Lens!
I bought this to use with my Lumix GX7 and have been nothing but impressed with the results. The images it generates are vivid, crisp, and dynamic. The resolution increase over the stock panasonic 14-42 is dramatic - and that is a nice lens. The extra wide angle reach is a bonus and the 40mm long end is just about perfect. My favorite feature is the pull back ring for switching from auto focus to manual focus, which is very handy when using this ... Show More

Sharp and fast midrange zoom lens
Based on 2 weeks use, this lens is nicely built and seems durable. The lens shade mounts quickly and securely. Photos throughout the zoom range are uniformly sharp. I have just transitioned from a professional Nikon camera/lens set that I did not use because it was too big and heavy. This new Olympus equipment is as good or better quality, plus it is much smaller and lighter than the Nikon gear. I am very pleased with this equipment.

This is one great lens.
I used this lens for the first time last week on a field trip attached to a Panasonic GH4, and the results were amazing. There is a high probability that this lens will never be removed from the camera:) It performed excellently for both photos and video. The 4K footage was pin sharp. Build quality is great, and I love the manual focus rinand autofocus is amazingly fast.

Believe the Reviews!
Looking for one professional quality lens for my M-10 and this one is unbelievably good. The build quality is excellent. This lens is very sharp with wonderful color and contrast. Focus is right on. When I first received it I was a bit disappointed with the size and weight- was heftier than I was expecting. But after seeing the results I forgot about the weight. And it's not as though it is anywhere near as heavy or big as the lenses I had for my Nikon. Now I don't even think about it. If I could only afford one lens this is the one I would buy. It would make a wonderful travel lens too.

Gran calidad

Terrific Lens
The lens is sharp, fast, and so light weight to provide such quality. The actions are smooth and the construction feels rock solid. I particularly like the ease in which you can change from auto focus tto manual. This is my first lens from Zuiko and I am completely impresses.

Nice lens
Just recieved the lens and went out and shot. Love what I have seen. The lens has a great feel, very balanced with the camera, and fits my hand perfect. The first shots I played with have been extremely sharp. Love the focus speed of the lens with camera. I traded my full size Canon 28 L series lens for Olympus and glad I did. The only thing I find a little problem is lens cap does not snap to lens as tight as I would like. I would recommend this lens.

WOW!!
My first MFT lens since changing from Nikon FF DSLR & DX lenses too. This is one of the smoothest action, crisp lenses I have ever had. Its as good as some of my Nikon primes! The f2.8 thru the zoom range is excellent. Color edition bokeh it is right up there with the best. OK its heavy but not as heavy as my Nikkor 18-200 so since I found I never used the 200 end works great. Its expensive & worth it! Splash proof too.

Really Great
I recently bought an OM-D E-M5 camera with the 14-42mm EZ zoom for travel because my Nikon D-610 with a 24-70mm lens attached just seemed a bit too big and heavy for family vacations. I love the compactness of the 14-42mm EZ, and still use it when I need a compact camera that out performs my iPhone, but the sharpness of the EZ zoom just wasn't enough to persuade me to leave my Nikon at home. However, with this 12-40mm f/2.8 lens attached, I'm not... Show More

Nice Lens!
PROS: Great range and very compact vs. Nikon 24-70. Manual focus override is brilliant and is a joy to use. Very sharp in center and corners at all focal lengths. Fuction button comes in very handy and can be used to pull focus during video recording. Superb build qualily. Well worth the price. CONS: Very unatttractive flare when facing stong backlight.

What a Terrific Lens!
I waited more than a year to pull the trigger on this lens, then bought it with an E-M5 ii. The 12-40 is the ideal walk-around lens for the new Oly; images are tack sharp and often stunning. This is a quality MFT optic with genuine heft; I'm loving it so far. Sorry now that I made myself wait.

Superb Optic
Excellent lens. Superb build and optics. The feel of this lens is excellent. It balances very nicely on a OM-D EM-5 Mark II. Extremely fast/accurate focusing. Great to have f/2.8 throughout the zoom range. The manual focusing clutch is great and implemented very well. Image quality is on par with the best of the lenses I own (largely Canon L series).

Bought with my new em5ii as a kit and got a great price. Build quality has been top notch with a professional, solid feel. Image quality is also great. Best glass that I have bought to date.

What a quality zoom shoukd be
This lens will make you question fast primes. This 12-40mm is an extremely useful focal length and is sharp from center to edge with beautiful cotrast and color rendition. I took a walk about town yesterday with just this lens and a Panny 35-100mm. Did not need a prime at all.

Superb lens
I have had this lens for about three weeks and have shot probably around 500 photos with it. I'm using it on a OM-D E-M10. It looks a little large on the camera and is heavier than the 14-42 kit lens that came with the camera, but is not awkward to use. It is extremely sharp wide open across the entire frame. The color and definition are outstanding. I'm primarily a user of Canon DSLR gear and have a 6D with the Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L II lens. The... Show More

Fantastic Lens
I wanted this lens for travel and also to take photographs of a new grandkid. The skin tones and sharpness of this lens is equal to any of the Canon L-series lenses I own. It rivals the Canon 85mm 1.2 at half the weight. The build quality is excellent. I realize that it is more expensive than other Olympus lenses; however, you will see a marked difference in quality. This lens is superb
Over the past 35 years I have used numerous lens for film and digital cameras. This lens ranks at the very top of my list. I learned long ago to buy the best lenses and spend less on the camera body. The lens is the secret sauce not the camera body. I rented this lens for 4 days and tested it against my Pentax prime lenses on a K5 body using a tripod and the equivalent focal length,Fstop and shutter speed. All were shot in RAW and JPEG.
