Definitely a great, rich sounding, well balanced and detailed microphone for vocals and acoustic guitar. It's transformer coupled output instead of solid state. I've done AB tests with the TLM 103 and U87. The AT4047 sounded wonderful on vocals (male and female vocalists) and beat the TLM103 on vocals and acoustic guitar. I found the U87 to be about even on vocals. Both the tlm103 and U87 sounded a bit too bright at about 10 khz. All comparisons were done using An Avalon VT737. The AT4047 his not a hyped up mic in the treble range. It's quite flat and has a small peak at 5khz at about 2 db. It's very smoothe and sounds great !! ... More

I use the 4047sv for voice over. I could not be happier with it's performance. Several clients I have worked with complimented my tone and asked what type of preamp I was using. Oddly enough, I was running the 4047 into an Mbox 2 completely unprocessed. I think that speaks volumes about the quality of the 4047. I am not a big fan of the design of Audio Technica's shock mounts in general because of having to snake whatever mic you are using through a rubber band, but it does do what it is intended to do.

This mic is awesome. I bought it to change up my constant use of the NT1-A. In comparison to that, it's more substantial in lower registers, like male (even female) vocals. In no way is it harsh. Great on acoustic guitars. It's less pronounced in upper registers, perhaps it's a slower transient response (than the Rode)... which the 4047 really requires a good preamp to bring out the presence. The mic is sincere and sounds rich and its detail is unprecedented.

This mic is better than its price point imo. Really good, versatile microphone that sounds more of quality than hyped tones.
