Not as Good as 55mm
I already have the Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA Lens, and have been using it for a year. For some reason I thought I wanted (not needed) another prime lens, so I bought the 35mm. I thought this lens was a bit slow, even at 2.8. The pictures were sharp in the center, but had a little vignetting in the corners. It was silly of me to buy a lens that was so close in size to the 55mm. I returned it, and I am contemplating getting a zoom lens like the 70-200mm.

Super lens, sharp and compact
I bought this Sony Zeiss lens to use on my Sony A7R. I had been using my Canon lenses on this with an adapter. The lens makes a huge difference - it is very compact and light, focuses very fast and is extremely sharp. I can recommend this heartily to anyone who likes fixed focal length lenses.

great, versatile lens!
this is a great lens. ive used it primarily as a walk around and landscape lens, though ive also gotten some nice portraits and close ups with it. i have found the colors to be remarkable. it is very sharp, small and light on my a7r. weather seal seems to be good, great construction.while it could be a bit faster, and vignetting is a bit of a problem, zeiss quality cant be beat!

Must-have kit lens
I am mostly a videographer, but I do take my a7s with me on vacations for photos, and this (35MM) lens is the one that is always attached because of a few things: 1. It is small and light 2. It is 35mm, the perfect focal length on a FF sensor for on-the-go shooting 3. Autofocus is SUPER FAST 4. It is very sharp for such a small lens, and because of the zeiss glass the colors pop. Cons: 1. It only stops down to f/2.8, but again this is to keep the... Show More

Great Street Lens
I used this lens when I traveled through Europe. It's light weight provided a positive experience while having the camera strapped 24/7. I wish it could focus moving subjects faster and was a bit more reasonable no the price.

Zeiss FE 35 mm f/2.8 for Sony
I have this lens on my A7 at least 50% of the time. Otherwise I have the FE 28-70 f/4.0 lens on the camera. This Zeiss 35 mm is lightweight and small, and with the A7 makes a nice walk-around combination. This lens is sharp, the colors and contrast are great, and the focus is quick and accurate. This has become one of my all-time favorite lenses, ranking up there with my Canon EF 200 mm f/2.8 L II and my old Canon FD 50 mm f/1.4. I highly recommend it.

Go to lens for my A7r
This is a great, snappy little beast. Images are sharp, out of focus transition is very pleasing, and focus speed is good on my A7r. I bought my A7r to use with manual focus Leica M mount lenses, but wanted an AF option. Since I got this lens, it is the primary lens that resides on the camera and I only put MF glass on it when I'm looking for something faster than f2.8 or a 50mm focal length. My only gripe is the price. Seems like a lot for an f2.8 lens, but I have no regrets.

35mm sonnar T*
With this lens, I was able to shoot hi-quality photos. The detail is fine and crispif you can capture the subject in a slow motion setting. Isn't the best paired with the a7/R because of it's lack of speed to focus fast subjects. However, it'll suffice for portraits or environmental scenes. I find the lens to be a bit overpriced as well.

Beautiful IQ, compact.
I love this lens. Thought the lack of aperture ring would bother me, but it doesn't. The way the lens interacts with the a7R to do (optional) automatic focus assist in MF mode is really great. Amazing how much that contributes to the quality of what I've been shooting. I assume the problem is in the camera, but the AF on the a7R isn't stellar. I have seen no evidence that continuous AF mode actually tracks anything. I have also seen the camera bl... Show More

Excellent lens
I brought this lens along with A7R. The combination produced pictures with great details and clarity. Even though it is only at F 2.8, but it is very fast lens.

Great for APS-C
I've heard some sharpness is lost in the corners and there is some vignetting occuring, but on an NEX (cropped 1.52x APS-C sensor) none of these troubles exist, you end up using the sharpest part of the lens with great results. I'm very happy with my purchase and this lens has now replaced my pancake as my pockatable lens and cameras combo. Here is a simple shot taken with this lens

Bad Copy of Lens straight out of the box
Unboxed this brand new lens, attached it to the Sony A7 and the lens would not function. Spoke to Sony who said it was an issue with the lens and that I had to mail it to their repair center. Did some research and they appear to have some quality control issues with this lens.

A good match for A7 with a few drawbacks
Gees. This is a tough one. First the good, the lens is very well made, very light and diminutive. It is a perfect match for the A7 and makes combo feel like a very reasonably sized range finder. It is made with a mixture of engineering plastic and composite and has a feel of quality craftsmanship. The focus is silent, quick and accurate. The image is saturated and very sharp in the center. It has the characteristic Zeiss pop. It is not all good n... Show More

Very nice
Very happy with this lens and will buy other focal lengths when they come out. The lens shade is two pieces of plastic glued together and after less than a month of use the two pieces fell apart in the camera bag. Not at all the quality one would expect.

Nice lens
I just bought my Sony A7 and I ordered it with kit lens I think it was mistake even though when buying body plus kit lens you getting the discount on lens about $ still I would spend all this extra for this lens just for beginning and then spend another g for 24-70 Zeiss f4 so basically In my opinion just buy sony a7 and this lens first Because it really worth it It sharp very contrastsy almost no distortion af works quicker than on kit lens

Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA
I started with a 35mm asph Leica Summicron. The color fringing was awful so for @2K used I decided to send it back. Bought this lens and learned what has been said. The best option in lenses is the ones designed for the camera you own. I own a Sony A7R and use a 50mm Summicron and am considering selling it for the Zeiss 55mm made for my camera. They are light and function as they should. These lenses are better for your A7 or A7R than anything else you might put on your camera.

Great all-around lens!
Super lightweight, great for street photography/landscapes/cityscapes/anything. Wish it was a little wider, but it makes up for it in portability and quality!

Ok 35mm
It's expensive and one of only 3 native full frame lenses available at the moment. The autofocus is average and horrible in lowlight compared similar lenses of other systems. The IQ is good but better to use an adapted lens, even manual focus if you're capable. Save some money and get better image quality with an adapted lens.

Light and Sharp
Bought this as a general walk around, travel lens for my Sony a7. So far it's the only lens I have for this camera. From what I have seen so far, the images are crisp, clean and the focus is fast. I like the way it looks on the camera - balanced and keeps the overall size of the camera compact. Looking forward to Sony making a wider prime as well.

Great, Pro-quality Glass
This is the lens length I find myself using the most for general photography (use the similar Sony-Zeiss 24mm f1.8 on my NEX-6). The quality and look of this glass is top-drawer. The lens is light and compact. My only wish is that its maximum aperture was 1.8, like the APS-size 24mm counterpart.

Great lens!
Great lens for my Sony A7r. The colors pop! This beast is sharp. Personally, I don't care about autofocus...I use my fingers. And, I don't care that it is only a 2.8 because I can always step up the ISO. I've not blown any captures with it.

Sharpest 35
On the Sony A7R, this lens produces image files that are the best I've ever seen. At f/2.8 the edges rival my Zeiss 35mm Biogon f/2.8 on the Leica M9 at f/8.
